Some Remarks on the Local Unitary Classification of Three-Qubit Pure States

Abstract

Abstract Characterization of multipartite entanglement is in general a challenging task. The entanglement polytope is particularly useful to study three-qubit systems since it allows a qualitative analysis of the related non-local properties from a geometric perspective. In this work, using numerical approaches, we show that there exist a correspondence between some classes of entanglement and some specific regions of the polytope for three-qubit systems.

Global and Bipartite Entanglement for Three-Qubit System Local Unitary Classes

S Luna-Hernández

Abstract Entanglement of multipartite quantum systems is an important resource in the field of quantum information processing. Using a measure of global entanglement and the notion of concurrence, the properties of entanglement for a three-qubit system are studied and classified in terms of local unitary classes. The connection of such classification with the three-qubit entanglement polytope is also discussed.

Entanglement of Three-Qubit Random Pure States

Marco Enríquez, Francisco Delgado, Karol Życzkowski

We study entanglement properties of generic three-qubit pure states. First, we obtain the distributions of both the coefficients and the only phase in the five-term decomposition of Acín et al. for an ensemble of random pure states generated by the Haar measure on U ( 8 ) . Furthermore, we analyze the probability distributions of two sets of polynomial invariants. One of these sets allows us to classify three-qubit pure states into four classes. Entanglement in each class is characterized using the minimal Rényi-Ingarden-Urbanik entropy. Besides, the fidelity of a three-qubit random state with the closest state in each entanglement class is investigated. We also present a characterization of these classes in terms of the corresponding entanglement polytope. The entanglement classes related to stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) are analyzed as well from this geometric perspective. The numerical findings suggest some conjectures relating some of those invariants with entanglement properties to be ground in future analytical work.

Local unitary equivalence and entanglement of multipartite pure states

Barbara Kraus

The necessary and sufficient conditions for the equivalence of arbitrary $n$-qubit pure quantum states under local unitary (LU) operations derived in [B. Kraus, Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 020504 (2010)] are used to determine the different LU-equivalence classes of up to five-qubit states. Due to this classification new parameters characterizing multipartite entanglement are found and their physical interpretation is given. Moreover, the method is used to derive examples of two $n$-qubit states (with $n>2$ arbitrary) which have the properties that all the entropies of any subsystem coincide; however, the states are neither LU equivalent nor can be mapped into each other by general local operations and classical communication.

Characterizing two- and three-qubit entanglement classes by their tensors

Pak Shen Choong

In this study, local unitary (LU) properties of two- and three-qubit quantum systems are studied. Specifically, the Schmidt decomposition approach to LU classification for two qubits is re-examined using a more general approach, i.e. higher order singular value decomposition (HOSVD). Later, HOSVD is used to classify three-qubit pure states by LU operations. We found that due to HOSVD, it is possible to characterize the entanglement classes of three qubits by the eigenvalues distribution of its one-particle reduced density matrices. This finding generalized the similar classification results in the literature and it is hoped that this work will fill in the gap of LU classification from bipartite to multipartite quantum states by using HOSVD.

Local unitary equivalence of the SLOCC class of three qubits

Dafa Li, Yu Jing Guo

Abstract Classification of multipartite pure states via the local unitary (LU) equivalence or the stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) equivalence is a fundamental task in investigating multipartite entanglement. It is shown in the seminal paper (2000 Phys . Rev . A 62 062314) that pure states of three qubits can be partitioned into six SLOCC classes. We explore here a necessary and sufficient condition for LU equivalence of pure states for any SLOCC class via Acín et al ’s Schmidt coefficients (ASC) of three qubits in (2000 Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 1560). We show that the LU equivalent states in W SLOCC class have the same ASC irrespective of phases while there are generally two different ASCs for the LU equivalent states in GHZ SLOCC class (irrespective of phases for some subclass). Consequently, we obtain a complete LU classification of three qubit pure states in the sense of ASC. Moreover, we discuss the choice among the different ASCs and then propose an approach to find a unique ASC for any given three qubit pure state. At last we analyse the entanglement/separability of the marginal states of the two inequivalent genuine entangled SLOCC classes. We find that any bipartite marginal states of the W SLOCC class are entangled, and that of the GHZ SLOCC class has eight different cases which are depend on the ASCs.

Entanglement Polytopes: Multiparticle Entanglement from Single-Particle Information

Michael Walter, Brent Doran, David Gross +1 more

Entangled many-body states are an essential resource for quantum computing and interferometry. Determining the type of entanglement present in a system usually requires access to an exponential number of parameters. We show that in the case of pure, multiparticle quantum states, features of the global entanglement can already be extracted from local information alone. This is achieved by associating any given class of entanglement with an entanglement polytope-a geometric object that characterizes the single-particle states compatible with that class. Our results, applicable to systems of arbitrary size and statistics, give rise to local witnesses for global pure-state entanglement and can be generalized to states affected by low levels of noise.
