Collective modes of a one-dimensional trapped Bose gas in the presence of the pairing state

Abdelâali Boudjemâa

We study the collective modes and density fluctuations of a one-dimensional (1D) harmonically trapped Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in the presence of the pairing state using the time-dependent-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (TDHFB) theory within the hydrodynamic equations. We derive analytical expressions for the mode frequencies and the density fluctuations of the pairing state which constitutes the minority component at low temperature and feels an effective external potential exerted by the majority component i.e. the condensate. Our predictions on the breathing mode oscillations of the condensate are in good agreement with the data of recent experiments and Monte carlo simulations.

Collective excitation frequencies and damping rates of a two-dimensional deformed trapped Bose gas above the critical temperature

Tarun Kanti Ghosh

We derive an equation of motion for the velocity fluctuations of a two-dimensional deformed trapped Bose gas just above the critical temperature in the hydrodynamical regime. From this equation, we calculate the eigenfrequencies and the corresponding density fluctuations for a few low-lying excitation modes. Using the method of averages, we derive a dispersion relation in a deformed trap at very high temperature that interpolates between the collisionless and hydrodynamic regimes. We make use of this dispersion relation to calculate the frequencies and the damping rates for monopole and quadrupole mode in both the regimes. We also discuss the time evolution of the wave-packet width of a Bose gas in a time-independent trap as well as a time-dependent trap.

Effects of Quantum Fluctuations on the Low-Energy Collective Modes of Two-Dimensional Superfluid Fermi Gases from the BCS to the Bose Limit

Senne Van Loon, C. A. R. Sá de Melo

We investigate the effects of quantum fluctuations on the low-energy collective modes of two-dimensional (2D) s-wave Fermi superfluids from the BCS to the Bose limit. We compare our results to recent Bragg scattering experiments in 2D box potentials, with very good agreement. We show that quantum fluctuations in the phase and modulus of the pairing order parameter are absolutely necessary to give physically acceptable chemical potential and dispersion relation of the low-energy collective mode throughout the BCS to Bose evolution. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the dispersion of the collective modes change from concave to convex as interactions are tuned from the BCS to the Bose regime, and never crosses the two-particle continuum, because arbitrarily small attractive interactions produce bound states in two dimensions.
