Abstract

Security performance and the impact of imperfect channel state information (CSI) in underlay cooperative cognitive networks (UCCN) is investigated in this paper. In the proposed scheme, relay R uses non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology to transfer messages e 1 , e 2 from the source node S to User 1 (U 1 ) and User 2 (U 2 ), respectively. An eavesdropper (E) is also proposed to wiretap the messages of U 1 and U 2 . The transmission's security performance in the proposed system was analyzed and performed over Rayleigh fading channels. Through numerical analysis, the results showed that the proposed system's secrecy performance became more efficient when the eavesdropper node E was farther away from the source node S and the intermediate cooperative relay R. The secrecy performance of U 1 was also compared to the secrecy performance of U 2 . Finally, the simulation results matched the Monte Carlo simulations well.

Physical Layer Security of NOMA with Decode-and-Forward Relaying in Underlay CR Network

Mengyao Zhu, Zhen Yang, Youhong Feng

This paper investigates the physical layer security of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with decode-and-forward (DF) relays in underlay cognitive radio (CR) network. Secondary transmitter communicates with legitimate users via the aid of relays, while the eavesdroppers try to intercept the message. To safeguard legitimate communications against eavesdropping, the joint of artificial-noise (AN) and relay selection (RS) is applied. We derive the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the secrecy throughput to evaluate the secrecy performance. In addition, the asymptotic floor of SOP is derived. Numerical results verify that cooperative NOMA in underlay CR (CRNOMA) significantly outperforms the conventional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) in underlay CR network (CROMA) in terms of the secrecy outage performance. Furthermore, the effect of some critical parameters on the secrecy performance has been studied.

Secure Transmission for NOMA-Based Cognitive Radio Networks With Imperfect CSI

Zhihui Shang, Tao Zhang, Guojie Hu +2 more

This letter studies the secure transmission issue of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based cognitive radio networks (CRNs) with imperfect channel state information (CSI), where the secondary user (SU) transmitter aims to transmit the normalized messages to two receivers${U_{a}}$and${U_{b}}$, and concurrently${U_{b}}$with full-duplex (FD) ability implements jamming to confuse the eavesdropping of the illegal user while causing zero interference to the primary user and${U_{a}}$. Under this setup, the novel exact closed-form expressions of connection outage probability (COP), secrecy outage probability (SOP) and effective secrecy throughput (EST) for each SU receiver under Rayleigh fading channels are derived. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate that: 1) the proposed scheme can achieve pretty good security and reliability performance, but there exist trade-off between such two indicators; 2) the FD-NOMA operation performs better than the half-duplex (HD) NOMA and HD orthogonal multiple access (OMA) in term of EST.

Secrecy Outage Performance Analysis for Cooperative NOMA Over Nakagami-mmm Channel

Chao Yu, Hak-Lim Ko, Xin Peng +1 more

In this paper, we investigate the secrecy outage performance of a typical cooperative downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system over Nakagami-m fading channel, in which the base station transmits a superimposed signal to two users via a relay. First, the secrecy outage behavior of the considered system over Nakagami-$m$ fading channel under three wiretapping cases, e.g., one eavesdropper (Eve), non-colluding and colluding eavesdroppers, are studied, and both analytical and asymptotic expressions for the secrecy outage probability are derived. Next, by considering the availability of Eves' channel state information, we adopt the two-stage relay selection (RS) strategy to improve the system's secrecy outage performance. Finally, simulation results are provided to corroborate the accuracy of our derived expressions. The results show that: 1) there exists secrecy performance floor for cooperative NOMA system, and it was determined by the weak user's secrecy requirement and the channel conditions of the Eves; 2) the two-stage RS scheme can increase the secrecy outage performance significantly under three wiretapping cases; 3) the secrecy performance of cooperative NOMA network is superior to that of orthogonal multiple access network on the condition of low and medium signal-to-noise ratio regions.

Outage performance of physical layer security for multi-hop underlay cognitive radio networks with imperfect channel state information

Kyusung Shim, Tri Nhu Do, Beongku An +1 more

In this paper, we consider a multi-hop decode-and-forward (DF) relaying transmission in underlay cognitive radio networks. Considering the presence of an eavesdropper that overhears the transmission, we address secure communications of multi-hop wireless communications in terms of physical layer security. In addition, we take in to account the effect of imperfect channel state information (CSI) which is of importance issue in underlay cognitive radio. We analyze the secrecy outage performance of the system over Rayleigh fading channels. In particular, we derive the closed-form expression of the system secrecy outage probability. The analysis results are validated by the Monte-Carlo simulation results. The numerical results show that the imperfect CSI issue does not effect on the security issue of the transmission in underlay cognitive radio networks. On the other hand, the number of hops plays a key role in the physical layer security.

Secure Outage Analysis for Cooperative NOMA Systems With Antenna Selection

Xinyue Pei, Hua Xing Yu, Miaowen Wen +2 more

The secrecy outage probability (SOP) performance is investigated for a cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access system under eavesdropping attack, where a base station transmits signals to a far user via a full-duplex relay, and to a near user directly at the same time, in the presence of an eavesdropper. All nodes are configured with multiple antennas and antenna selection is adopted by the base station and relay to enhance the security performance. The exact and asymptotic closed-form SOP expressions are derived, which incorporate the impact of imperfect channel state information and apply to general cases considering the quality of service of the far and near users, whether or not the wiretap channel is known, and the location of the eavesdropper. Monte Carlo simulations corroborate the analysis and the superiority of the proposed system over the single-antenna system and the one without antenna selection. It is also revealed that the asymptotic SOP performance of the near user is nearly independent of the power allocation.

Secrecy Performance Analysis of Cooperative NOMA Networks With Active Protection under α - μ Fading

Tung Pham Huu, Van Nhan Vo, Hung Tran +2 more

In this paper, we analyze the secrecy performance of a cooperative communication wireless system using nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) over α - μ fading channel. A new cooperative NOMA scheme is proposed to protect the confidential communication that is transmitted from a source to two users by the help of a relay under the monitoring of an eavesdropper (EAV). In particular, the legitimate user generates jamming signals to the EAV while the source transmits the signals to the relay and the source sends jamming signals to the EAV while the relay forwards the signals to the users. In order to evaluate the secrecy performance, the physical layer security (PLS) in term of the secrecy outage probability (SOP) for the active protection scheme (APS) is investigated and compared to that for a benchmark non-protection scheme (NPS). Simulation results show that the APS can effectively enhance the secrecy performance.
