Abstract

This paper investigates the physical layer security of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with decode-and-forward (DF) relays in underlay cognitive radio (CR) network. Secondary transmitter communicates with legitimate users via the aid of relays, while the eavesdroppers try to intercept the message. To safeguard legitimate communications against eavesdropping, the joint of artificial-noise (AN) and relay selection (RS) is applied. We derive the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the secrecy throughput to evaluate the secrecy performance. In addition, the asymptotic floor of SOP is derived. Numerical results verify that cooperative NOMA in underlay CR (CRNOMA) significantly outperforms the conventional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) in underlay CR network (CROMA) in terms of the secrecy outage performance. Furthermore, the effect of some critical parameters on the secrecy performance has been studied.

Secure transmission using decode-and-forward protocol for underlay cognitive radio networks

Tri Nhu Do, Beongku An

In this paper, we study the physical layer security for underlay cognitive radio network in the presence of an eavesdropper that tries to intercept the secondary transmission. Specifically, a transmission at each hop uses a same frequency band of a primary user as long as the interference that caused by the secondary transmission at a primary receiver does not excess a maximum tolerable interference level. We investigate the secrecy outage probability (SOP) for a cognitive decode-and-forward (DF) relay network. Moreover, we drive a closed-form expression of the SOP of the considered system. Simulation results validate our theoretical results under three distinct cases as follows: the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the main link between a secondary transmitter and a corresponding receiver is, respectively, smaller, equal to, or larger than the SNR of the eavesdropper link between the same secondary transmitter and the eavesdropper.

Physical Layer Security of Overlay Cognitive NOMA Systems with Control-Jamming

Kajal Yadav, Prabhat K. Upadhyay, Janne J. Lehtomäki +1 more

In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security (PLS) of an overlay cognitive non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system with control-jamming (CJ) under Nakagami-m fading. Herein, a cooperative decode-and-forward (DF) relaying technique is adopted at the secondary transmitter, while a maximal ratio combining (MRC) scheme is employed at the primary destination in order to improve the secrecy performance of the underlying system. Under this setup, we derive analytical expressions for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC). Moreover, we obtain simple and explicit expressions of the SOP in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region to get useful insights on the system design for both the cases of without and with jamming. Finally, Monte Carlo simulations are provided to: (i) demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed system with jamming over its non-jamming counterpart in terms of security; (ii) verify the accuracy of the proposed analytical framework.

Security performance analysis for power domain NOMA employing in cognitive radio networks

Thi‐Anh Hoang, Chi‐Bao Le, Dinh‐Thuan Do

The power domain non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique introduces one of the fundamental characteristics and it exhibits the possibility of users to decode the messages of the other paired users on the same resources. In cognitive radio inspired NOMA (CR-NOMA), the base station (BS) has to serve untrusted users or users with different security clearance. This phenomenon raises a security threat particularly in such CR-NOMA. This paper develops a tractable analysis framework to evaluate the security performance of cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in cognitive networks, where relay is able to serve two far NOMA users in the presence of external eavesdropper. In particular, we study the secrecy outage probability in a two-user NOMA system. This situation happens in practical the BS is pairing a legitimate user with another untrusted user. Main reason is that the non-uniform distribution in terms of trusted and untrusted users in the cell. By performing numerical results demonstrate the performance improvements of the proposed NOMA scheme in comparison to that of several situations in terms of different parameters. Furthermore, the security performance of NOMA is shown to verify the derived expressions.

On secrecy outage probability for downlink NOMA systems with relay-antenna selection

Shu Xu, Chen Liu, Hong Wang +2 more

Abstract Secure transmission is essential for future non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system. This paper investigates relay-antenna selection (RAS) to enhance physical-layer security (PLS) of cooperative NOMA system in the presence of an eavesdropper, where multiple antennas are deployed at the relays, the users, and the eavesdropper. In order to reduce expense on radio frequency (RF) chains, selection combining (SC) is employed at both the relays and the users, whilst the eavesdropper employs either maximal-ratio combining (MRC) or selection combining (SC) to process the received signals. Under the condition that the channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdropping channel is available or unavailable, two effective relay-antenna selection schemes are proposed. Additionally, the closed-form expressions of secrecy outage probability (SOP) are derived for the proposed relay-antenna selection schemes. In order to gain more deep insights on the derived results, the asymptotic performance of the derived SOP is analyzed. In simulations, it is demonstrated that the theoretical results match well with the simulation results and the SOP of the proposed schemes is less than that of the conventional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) scheme obviously.

Physical Layer Secrecy Performance Analysis of Jamming-Assisted Overlay Cognitive NOMA Networks With Hardware Impairments and Multiple Non-Colluding Eavesdroppers

P. P. Hema, Anchare V. Babu

This paper investigates the physical layer security (PLS) of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-enabled overlay cognitive radio networks (NOMA-OCRNs), considering multiple non-colluding eavesdroppers. Here PLS is evaluated in terms of: (i) secrecy outage probability (SOP) of primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU) and (ii) system SOP (SSOP), system secrecy throughput (SST) and secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) of the network. Residual hardware impairments arising from non-ideal hardware and imperfect successive interference cancellation conditions are considered. Firstly, we derive new analytical expressions for the SOPs of PU and SU. Numerical evaluation results show that both PU as well as SU suffer very high SOPs that tend to unity in the high transmit power region. Further, RHI and i-SIC have a significant impact on the secrecy performance. To improve the PLS performance, we propose a jamming-assisted framework and develop novel analytical models for determining the SOPs of PU and SU. We derive the asymptotic SOP expressions as well. Detailed analytical and simulation results are presented to demonstrate that the proposed jamming-assisted framework leads to a significant reduction of the SOPs of both PU and SU while exhibiting considerable enhancement of SST and SEE of the network compared to the no-jammer scenario. In the final part of this paper, we utilize a deep learning framework for the precise and fast prediction of the SOPs of PU and SU, that can replace complex mathematical modeling.
