Abstract

In recent years, many eavesdropping and interception incidents against optical networks have shaken people's understanding of optical network security. The security of optical networks is attracting more and more researchers' attention. Aiming at the security problems in automatically switched optical network (ASON), this paper proposes a three-layer ASON secure communication model that separates the control plane, management plane and transport plane, and a quantum key distribution (QKD) mechanism based on the model. The ASON intelligent software controller divides the classic channel into three types of channels: quantum signal channel (QSCh), pulic interaction channel (PICh) and traditional data channels (TDCh), which are used for quantum transmission, quantum bit synchronization and data transmission separately, and the session key provided by the ASON intelligent network element through the QKD mechanism, The data is encrypted to achieve secure transmission of ASON classic channel data. The effects of QKD mechanism on ASON under different quantum signal source (QSS) code rate, load and intelligent network element (INU) node spacing are simulated and analyzed. The results show that the scheme guarantees the security of the system while increasing the finite delay and reducing the load and has practical feasibility.

Software defined optical networks secured by quantum key distribution (QKD)

Yongli Zhao, Yuan Cao, Xiaosong Yu +1 more

Optical network security is attracting increasing research interest. Currently, software defined optical network (SDON) has been proposed to increase network intelligence, which is gradually moving towards industrialization. However, new threats are emerging, e.g., control messages transferred via the control channels are vulnerable to eavesdropping and interception. Data encryption is an effective way to enhance the security of connection as well as control messages transferred in SDON. Noticeably, quantum key distribution (QKD) is being considered as a secure mechanism to provision keys for confidential data encryption, which is a potential technique to protect communications from security attacks in SDONs. How to utilize QKD to enhance the SDON security is emerging as a new issue. This paper proposes a novel QKD-enabled SDON architecture, and discusses some open issues and challenges such as resource allocation, security level, trusted repeater node placement and resiliency under such an architecture. Moreover, this paper also proposes an algorithmic solution to resource allocation issue and describes some illustrative simulation results.

Research on Switching Nodes of Multi-layer Optical Networks Based on Quantum-classical Fusion

Cong Chen

Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a key technology widely used in quantum communication technology, which can achieve unconditionally secure information transmission. At present, the quantum-classical fusion is often used to construct QKD networks, thus enhancing the security level of the current communication network. In addition, the design of the switching node structure of the optical network is related to the planning and deployment of the entire communication network, which helps to build a flexible and scalable communication network. However, in the quantum-classical fusion network, due to the extremely weak quantum signal, it is susceptible to the crosstalk from the classical signal and the phase drift caused by the change of external environment in the transmission process. In this paper, a multi-layer optical network switching node based on the quantum-classical fusion is designed to enable QKD to be integrated into existing classical networks. The node uses conventional device to enable the isolation of quantum signals from classical and synchronization signals to reach more than 30 dB, and to increase the capacity of the switching node with flexibility and scalability.

Research on Point to Point Quantum Secure Optical Fiber Transmission System of Distribution Network Control Signal

Xin MIAO

In order to solve the problem of how to protect the confidentiality and integrity of the distribution network control signal transmission security problem, this paper proposes a solution for point to point quantum secure optical fiber transmission system of distribution network control signal. The solution is to combine the quantum key distribution (QKD) with one-time pad to realize the secure communication of the point to point of the distribution network control and protection signal. The simulation results show that compared with the classical key distribution system, the proposed scheme has the advantage of confidentiality, integrity and identifiability, and has the uniqueness of tightness enhanced. The security support for the interoperability of intelligent distribution network equipment is enhanced, and the security and intelligence level of the distribution network system are improved.

Implementation of Quantum Key Distribution for Secure data transmission in Optical Communication

S. Krithiga, Ajay V, R Manoojitth +1 more

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a potential defense against future quantum attacks that can break traditional encryption algorithms, such as RSA and ECC. The current work is based on the development of the BB84 protocol with the features of utilizing quantum mechanics and eavesdropping detection through signal disturbance. A simulation of the BB84 protocol was built using polarization encoding over a 10 km single-mode optical fiber using OptiSystem software. The system consists of standard telecom equipment, such as a continuous wave laser at a frequency of 193.1 THz, polarization controllers, and single-photon detectors. Both secure and insecure cases were simulated, where an attacker (Eve) had used an intercept-resend attack. The outcome showed significant Bit Error Rate (BER) and Quantum Bit Error Rate (QBER) increases during attacks, thus proving the protocol's vulnerability to interference. In addition, a special intrusion detection system based on BER was used to identify such anomalies in real-time. The simulation illustrates the feasibility of using QKD in today's optical networks to secure communications.

Research on Key Distribution and Encryption Control System of Optical Network Physical Layer

Chen Cui, Yang Zhe, Yang Siyu +3 more

With the wide application of large-capacity and high-speed optical networks, its security has become a current research focus. Due to the limitations of traditional key distribution and encryption schemes, this paper proposes an innovative key distribution and encryption control scheme based on physical layer channel feature extraction and analysis. First of all, the transceiver terminal extracts the physical characteristics of the fiber channel separately, and generates a consensus key through quantization coding. Second, use the generated key base to encrypt the transmission sequence, map the Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) signal to the high-order 1024×1024-QAM signal, and use the noise stream to perform the high-order QAM. The signal is flooded. The system utilizes channel non-replication and randomness of channel noise, the security and randomness of the key are good, and the key formation rate is high and the key generation equipment is simple. The system uses high-order QAM modulation, which increases the security of the system. The experimental results show that the coding rate of the key generated by the system reaches 400kb/s, and the coding performance of the key is better; the operating key is generated by the key base extension, which has strong anti-interception ability; the system has a low bit error rate and secure transmission Good performance.

Weilun Lao, Ken Chen

This paper proposes an information encryption transmission method for power system communication network based on quantum security communication technology, which can effectively encrypt the information in power system and ensure the security of information transmission. Based on quantum secure communication technology, the communication network architecture of power system is constructed. Quantum-layer quantum key distribution Network (QKD) uses BB84 protocol to realize quantum information exchange and optical synchronization, provide quantum key to control layer, and encrypt network information of power system. The control layer is responsible for monitoring QKD status, reasonably managing keys, and issuing communication commands to the communication layer. The communication layer switch encrypts and transmits the power system communication network data generated by the application layer through the minimum attenuation routing algorithm according to the controller instruction. Experiments show that this method can realize the information encryption of power system communication network, and the quantum key encryption function, key source exchange function and the number of encryption services meet the requirements. The application of this method can improve the throughput and communication connectivity of power system communication network.
