ULTRA-HIGH-RESOLUTION FLUORESCENCE SPECTROSCOPY AT EXCITATION OF ATOMS BY PULSED RADIATION IN THIN GAS CELLS

А. С. Гасанова, А. Ч. Измайлов

The method of sub-Doppler fluorescence spectroscopy is proposed, which is based on the features of the narrowing with time of the velocity distribution of optically excited atoms (molecules) of a rarefied gas medium in a thin cell after exposure to a sufficiently short light pulse. Changes in the established sub-Doppler resonances with time as well as the essential dependence of these resonances on dimensions of the gas cell are analyzed.

ELECTRONIC EXCITATION OF METASTABLE STATES OF RARE GAS ATOMS

A. A. Mityureva

The important role of the scientific school of Prof. I. Zapisochny in the study of electron-atom collisions and its determination of most important parameters in this field are emphasized. The processes of electron-impact excitation to and from the metastable states of rare gases atoms are examined. The methods of measurement of the cross sections for such processes are described and the influence of cascade population on the metastable cross sections discussed also. The cross section data are presented. Keywords: electron-atom collisions, metastable states,
