Высокоэффективная схема перераспределения оптического излучения на пространственных решетках атомных населенностей

Abstract

AbstractThe radiation intensity redistribution of the probe field upon its scattering by spatially periodic atomic population gratings in a medium with a four-level tripod configuration of atomic states is investigated theoretically. Conditions are found under which a significant redistribution of the probe-wave field intensity occurs, and a “diffraction” pattern is formed with an efficient probe-field intensity transfer to the first-order maxima.

Двумерная локализация атомных населенностей в четырехуровневых квантовых системах

Ефремова Екатерина Александровна, M. Yu. Gordeev, Рождественский Юрий Владимирович

Abstr3ct. The paper deals with investigation of one aspect of fundamental problem of laser radiation interaction with the matter. This problem is spatial localization of atomic populations due to fields impact of few running waves. We are the first to propose in our work two-dimensional spatial localization of atomic populations in medium with tripod-like configuration of levels under the field influence of running waves only. Three running waves, propagating along one plane 120o angle-wise to each other, form the system of standing waves in this plane. Atomic populations can be localized in the field of these standing waves. Moreover, the degree of such localization can make up hundredth parts of the wavelength of the incident optical radiation. It is shown that an excitation of the central transition of the tripod-like system using a field of multidirectional linearly polarized running waves is the necessary condition of the population dependence from spatial coordinates in the XY plane. The two-dimensional shapes that appear in this system can have very complicated structure such as “double craters”.

Electromagnetically induced grating in a four-level tripod-type atomic system

Yabin Dong, Yao-Hua Guo

An electromagnetically induced grating in a four-level tripod-type atomic system is studied theoretically. By virtue of a weak standing-wave signal field, the phase modulation effectively diffracts a weak probe field into the first-order direction. By changing the weak signal field, the diffraction of the weak probe field can be modulated in real time, and a first-order diffraction efficiency of more than 32% can be obtained with proper parameters. Such a system has a potential application in an all-optical switch controlled by a weak optical signal.

Electromagnetically induced grating via amplitude and phase modulations in a three-level V-type atomic medium

Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Nguyen Huy Bang, Bui Van Cuong +9 more

Abstract A probe laser beam can be completely absorbed in an atomic resonance frequency region, however, if a coupling laser beam is further applied to the atom, the atomic medium can exhibit electromagnetically induced transparency, i.e the probe beam can be completely transmitted through the atomic medium. Thus, if the coupling beam is a standing wave field with nodes and antinodes, it will cause in space a periodic modulation of the transmitted spectrum of the probe field. This means that the probe field propagates through the atomic medium just as it passes through a diffraction grating which is called electromagnetically induced grating. Based on amplitude or phase modulation of transmission function, the absorption grating or the phase grating can be formed, respectively. In this work, based on controllable absorption and dispersion properties of a three-level V-type atomic system, we study the control of the absorption grating and the phase grating with respect to the intensity and the frequency of the laser fields. The absorption diffraction pattern at the two-photon resonance is obtained, while the phase diffraction pattern appears when there is a frequency shift of either the coupling frequency or the probe frequency compared to the corresponding atomic resonance frequency. By adjusting the coupling or/and probe laser frequency, the absorption grating can be converted into the phase grating and the high-order diffraction efficiency can also be improved.

Фазовый переключатель для электромагнитно индуцированных решеток в среде с -атомами

M. Yu. Gordeev, Ю.В. Рождественский

The possibility to use phasic effect to turn off a coherent population trapping for creating a switcher of the light propagation direction in an electromagnetically induced gratings in the medium with Λ-atoms is studied theoretically in this paper. The allowable scope of the effect is determined. The parameters that allowed to obtain a highly efficient scheme of spatial redistribution of the intensity of the probe field on atomic density gratings were obtained and studied.

Cross-phase modulation and population redistribution in a periodic tripod medium

K. Słowik, Andrzej Raczyński, J. Zaremba +3 more

The cross-Kerr effect is studied for two weak beams, probe and trigger, propagating in an atomic medium in a tripod configuration, dressed by a strong standing wave coupling beam in a regime of electromagnetically induced transparency. The nonlinear phase shifts for both transmitted and reflected probe beams induced by the trigger's presence are found to depend on the probe detuning, the control beam's intensity, the relaxation rates and, in particular, on the redistribution of the population among the atomic levels. Such a quantitative analysis indicates that the transmitted and reflected probe beam components and their respective phase shifts can be easily controlled and optimized.
