Controlling the lasing without inversion via external magnetic field

R. Karimi, Saeid Batebi, HAMID RAHIMPOUR SOLEIMANI

this paper studied the magnetic field effect on optical properties in a closed lambda-type three level atomic system. Two circularly polarized components are interacted separately by two transitions of this medium. By numerically solving the density matrix equations for this system, it is demonstrated that the optical properties of system, such as absorption, dispersion and lasing, can be controlled via switching on and off an external magnetic field. The proposed scheme may have applications in the design of magneto-optic switching devices. Also the time dependent behavior of the absorption curve in the presence of magnetic field and incoherent pumping field investigated.

Roles of Atomic Injection Rate and External Magnetic Field on Optical Properties of Elliptical Polarized Probe Light

R. Karimi, Seyyed Hossein Asadpour, Saeed Batebi +1 more

Abstract In this paper we investigate the optical properties of an open four-level tripod atomic system driven by an elliptically polarized probe field in the presence of the external magnetic field and compare its properties with the corresponding closed system. Our result reveals that absorption, dispersion and group velocity of probe field can be manipulated by adjusting the phase difference between the two circularly polarized components of a single coherent field, magnetic field and cavity parameters i.e. the atomic exit rate from cavity and atomic injection rates. We show that the system can exhibit multiple electromagnetically induced transparency windows in the presence of the external magnetic field. The numerical result shows that the probe field in the open system can be amplified by appropriate choice of cavity parameters, while in the closed system with introduce appropriate phase difference between fields the probe field can be enhanced. Also it is shown that the group velocity of light pulse can be controlled by external magnetic field, relative phase of applied fields and cavity parameters. By changing the parameters the group velocity of light pulse changes from subluminal to superluminal light propagation and vice versa.

Computer analysis of the CPT-dip properties

Anna V. Kuptsova

In our work we develop the computer analysis of the CPT-dip properties. We investigate the dependencies of CPT-dip width, depth and contrast on the radiation fields intensities and detunings, the magnetic fields strength, and the relaxation constants. CPT is observed in the population dynamics of two real three-level atomic systems. One of them is a (Lambda) - type system composed of the magnetic sublevels of 6P1/2, 6P3/2 and 7S1/2 states of Tl atom, the other one is a (Xi) -type system of the magnetic sublevels of 3S1/2, 3P3/2, 5S1/2 states of Na atom. The systems interact with two monochromatic laser fields and magnetic field, which is perpendicular to the laser propagation direction for the lambda-system and parallel for the (Xi) -system. On both cases polarization and mutual configurations of the fields are chosen specific, so that one can select the isolated three- level subsystems in multilevel atomic systems. We observe that the obtained dependencies are different from those in reference 1. It may be explained with non-equal Rabi frequencies and decay rates of neighboring transitions, which are the characteristic feature of real atoms.© (2001) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
