Quantum dynamics and nonclassical photon statistics of coherently driven Raman transition in bimodal cavity

Abstract

We study a classically driven two-level system in a harmonic trap and a lossy two-mode cavity, with the first mode being resonant to the driving field and an electronic transition, and the second mode being off-resonant, forming a vibrational-assisted Raman transition. Using an exact numerical method, we compute the steady state as well as the time evolution of the photon statistics. We further investigate the photon correlations of both the cavity modes and identify the laser parameters and coupling strength that give the nonclassical sub-Poissonian property. The work is useful for coherent control of photon statistics and photon correlations in the trapped two-level system.

Quantum dynamics and spectra of vibrational Raman-resonance fluorescence in a two-mode cavity

C. H. Raymond Ooi, Eyob Alebachew Sete, W.-M. Liu

We study the classically driven two-level system with its center-of-mass motion vibrating in a harmonic trap and coupled to the photons in a two-mode cavity. The first mode is resonant to the driving field and an electronic transition. The second mode is off-resonant, forming a vibrational-assisted Raman transition. Using an exact numerical method, we investigate the quantum dynamics of the light emitted by the atom and the cavity modes. We analyze and compare the corresponding atomic and intracavity photon spectra for a range of the driving laser field and the cavity coupling strengths. The results provide better understanding of the effects of the laser field and atom-cavity coupling strengths on quantum interference effects and photon blockade, particularly the Mollow's triplet and the Autler-Townes splitting in the good and bad cavity limits.

Non-classical photon statistics in frequency-modulated double quantum dot cavity systems

T. Mihaescu, A. Isar, M. A. Macovei

The quantum dynamics of a double quantum dot two-level system, coupled to a leaking microwave resonator mode, is theoretically investigated. The double quantum dot is driven by applying a continuous field giving rise to time-dependent modulations of its energy separation between the ground levels of each dot, forming the qubit. Therefore, the cavity resonances occur when the difference between the resonator and the qubit frequencies equals the multiple of the modulation frequency, respectively. In the strong Coulomb interaction limit and the weak couplings of the combined system, i.e. the qubit and the single-mode cavity, to corresponding electronic, phononic or photonic reservoirs, we have demonstrated that the output cavity electromagnetic field is formed of a single-photon flux obeying the sub-Poissonian quantum photon statistics. This was proved via Fano's factor behaviour or by comparing the resonator's second- and third-order photon correlation functions, respectively. The phonon, the cavity mode dephasing or the environmental temperatures influence on the quantum properties of the photons are also discussed.

Single-trapped-ion vibronic Raman laser

C. Di Fidio, W. Vogel, R. L. de Matos Filho +1 more

We propose a model for a single-trapped-ion vibronic Raman laser and study its dynamics by using quantum-trajectory methods. In our treatment, it is essential that both the cavity field of the high-finesse optical cavity and the center-of-mass vibrational motion of the trapped ion be quantized. A transition from a super-Poissonian light source to a Poissonian lasing regime is obtained by increasing the Raman coupling constant. Furthermore, we demonstrate that a nonclassical regime can be realized, where the photon statistics becomes sub-Poissonian and the photons leak out of the cavity in an antibunched manner. This is achieved by exploiting nonlinear Stark shifts inherent in the model, which depend on both the number of cavity photons and the number of vibrational quanta.

Raman-assisted Rabi resonances in two-mode cavity QED

P. Grünwald, S. K. Singh, W. Vogel

The dynamics of a vibronic system in a lossy two-mode cavity is studied, with the first mode being resonant to the electronic transition and the second one being nearly resonant due to Raman transitions. We derive analytical solutions for the dynamics of this system. For a properly chosen detuning of the second mode from the exact Raman resonance, we obtain conditions that are closely related to the phenomenon of Rabi resonance as it is well known in laser physics. Such resonances can be observed in the spontaneous emission spectra, where the spectrum of the second mode in the case of weak Raman coupling is enhanced substantially.

Optimal photon antibunching in a quantum-dot–bimodal-cavity system

Wen Zhang, Zhongyuan Yu, Yumin Liu +1 more

We theoretically investigate the photon statistics in a cavity quantum electrodynamics system of a single quantum dot coupled to a bimodal nanocavity. It is shown in a recent work [A. Majumdar, M. Bajcsy, A. Rundquist, and J. Vu\ifmmode \check{c}\else \v{c}\fi{}kovi\ifmmode \acute{c}\else \'{c}\fi{}, Phys. Rev. Lett. 108, 183601 (2012)] that the system can generate strongly sub-Poissonian light when one of the cavity modes is driven coherently and resonantly. We study the two-mode coherent driving regime of the coupled system. The effect of additional cavity mode driving on statistical characteristics of photon emission is presented by evaluating the zero-delay second-order correlation function ${g}^{2}$(0). The antibunching character can be optimized by regulating the ratio between driving strengths of two cavity modes to achieve optimal combination of superbunched and coherent light. As a result ${g}^{2}$(0) can be reduced up to several orders of magnitude [${g}^{2}$(0)$\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\sim}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}$10${}^{\ensuremath{-}7}$] with proper system parameters, compared with the one-mode driving system [${g}^{2}$(0)$\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\sim}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}$0.1].

Generation of entangled coherent states in cavity QED and its nonclassicality

Chenchao Hua, Shi-Qing Tang

Cavity quantum electrodynamics is the intersection of quantum physics and microcavity optics research. In this paper, we presented a two-mode cavity coupled to a classical field driven by N three-level atoms to prepare entangled coherent states based on cavity QED. In this scheme, we adopt the interaction between the three-level atoms and the two-mode optical cavity, The initial state of one optical field is an odd-even coherent state, while the initial state of another optical field is a coherent state. After considering the time evolution of the initial states with the system, we obtained the specific form of the time evolution of the quantum states and prepared the entangled coherent state successfully. We discussed and analysed some of the nonclassical properties of the optical field and quantum states, including the second-order correlation function and the Wigner function. The results show that when calculating the second-order correlation function, the photons are found to exhibit a sub-Poisson distribution at some points in time. In addition, when observing the Wigner function of the quantum states evolving with time, it is found that there is a negative part of the Wigner distribution at some moments, which implies that the quantum state exhibits nonclassical properties at these certain moments.
