Abstract

We consider a protocol of broadband quantum memory on a controlled frequency comb of spectral lines of ring microwave resonators connected to a common strip waveguide. A prototype of this memory is manufactured, on which the room-temperature preservation of microwave pulses with an efficiency of about 3 % is demonstrated. The experimentally obtained efficiency can be enhanced to a level above 90 % using modern microwave technologies and conducting experiments at helium temperatures, which opens a new way for the development of integrated microwave quantum memory.

Multiresonator quantum memory

In this paper we present universal broadband multiresonator quantum memory based on the spatial-frequency combs of the microresonators coupled with a common waveguide. We find a Bragg-type impedance matching condition for the coupling of the microresonators with a waveguide field that provides an efficient broadband quantum storage. The analytical solution obtained for the microresonator fields enables sustainable parametric control of all the memory characteristics. We also construct an experimental prototype of the studied quantum memory in the microwave spectral range that demonstrates basic properties of the microwave microresonators, their coupling with a common waveguide, and independent control of the microresonator frequencies. Experimentally observed narrow lines of the microresonators confirm the possibility of multiresonator quantum memory implementation.

Broadband multiresonator quantum memory-interface

S. A. Moiseev, K. I. Gerasimov, R. R. Latypov +3 more

In this paper we experimentally demonstrated a broadband scheme of the multiresonator quantum memory-interface. The microwave photonic scheme consists of the system of mini-resonators strongly interacting with a common broadband resonator coupled with the external waveguide. We have implemented the impedance matched quantum storage in this scheme via controllable tuning of the mini-resonator frequencies and coupling of the common resonator with the external waveguide. Proof-of-principal experiment has been demonstrated for broadband microwave pulses when the quantum efficiency of 16.3% was achieved at room temperature. By using the obtained experimental spectroscopic data, the dynamics of the signal retrieval has been simulated and promising results were found for high-Q mini-resonators in microwave and optical frequency ranges. The results pave the way for the experimental implementation of broadband quantum memory-interface with quite high efficiency η > 0.99 on the basis of modern technologies, including optical quantum memory at room temperature.

Spectrally Improved Controllable Frequency Comb Quantum Memory

N. S. Perminov, D. Yu. Tarankova, S. A. Moiseev

Abstract We propose a scheme of a universal block of broadband quantum memory consisting of three ring microresonators forming a controllable frequency comb and interacting with each other and with a common waveguide. We find the optimal parameters of the microresonators showing the possibility of highly efficient storage of light fields in this memory block and we demonstrate the procedure for gluing several memory blocks for increasing the spectral range of the composite quantum memory while maintaining high efficiency.

Superefficient cascade multiresonator quantum memory

N S Perminov, D Yu Tarankova, S A Moiseev

Abstract We propose a cascade scheme of a superefficient broadband quantum memory consisting of four high-Q ring resonators forming a controllable frequency comb, interacting with long-lived spin systems and a common waveguide. Using the transfer function giving extended matching conditions, the optimization of all spectroscopic parameters of the system for quantum memory in the resonator is carried out. It was shown that our quantum memory scheme does not impose large restrictions on the parameters of losses in resonators and allows the achievement of a super high efficiency ∼99.99% in a wide frequency range.

On-Demand Storage and Retrieval of Microwave Photons Using a Superconducting Multiresonator Quantum Memory

Zenghui Bao, Zhiling Wang, Yukai Wu +5 more

We realize on-demand storage and retrieval of weak coherent microwave photon pulses at the single-photon level. A superconducting multiresonator system which is composed of a set of frequency-tunable coplanar waveguide resonators is implemented as the quantum memory. By dynamically tuning the resonant frequencies of the resonators, we achieve tunable memory bandwidth from 10 to 55 MHz, with well preserved phase coherence. We further demonstrate on-demand storage and retrieval of a time-bin flying qubit. This result opens up a prospect to integrate our chip-based quantum memory with the state-of-the-art superconducting quantum circuit technology for quantum information processing.

Superconducting Integrated On-Demand Quantum Memory with Microwave Pulse Preservation

Aleksei R. Matanin, Nikita S. Smirnov, Аnton I. Ivanov +8 more

Microwave quantum memory represents a critical component for quantum radars and resource-efficient approaches to quantum error correction. Superconducting microwave resonators provide highly efficient storage, long coherence times, on-demand reading, and even memory pulse engineering, but it is still challenging to overcome design and materials induced loss channels for on-chip realization. In this Letter, we present a novel architecture of integrated superconducting quantum memory with a dynamically controlled RF-SQUID coupling element in pulse regime, thus ensuring high efficiency storage and cycling storage time. It demonstrates a memory cycle time of 1.51 μs and 57.5(4)% storage fidelity with preservation of the stored pulse shape during the retrieval at single-photon level excitations. We establish that while the proposed active coupler realization introduces no measurable fidelity degradation, the primary limitation arises from impedance matching and materials imperfections. Still the device was used only for storing finite-duration near-single-photon classical microwave pulses, we assert that it operates as a linear device when the photon population in the common resonator remains low so it should be compatible with quantum state storage. The proposed architecture highlights a disruptive potential for on-chip qubit and memory integration for scalable quantum error correction, while identifying specific avenues for near-unity storage fidelity.
