Abstract

In this paper, a hybrid cryptosystem is presented combining classical cryptography with quantum cryptography, in which the secure key distribution between the parties utilizing AES cipher is performed using quantum three-pass protocol. This protocol guarantees the absolutely secure key transmission whose security relies on the no-cloning theorem of quantum mechanics. The key is transmitted in the form of polarized photons, which is further encrypted by rotating each photon by a certain angle. This key is utilized by AES (Advance encryption Standard) cryptosystem which is a symmetric block cipher whose strength relies on the substitution box (S-box) that introduces non linearity into the cryptosystem. The S-box used in the existing AES is fixed which may pose security threats if scrutinized by an attacker. Hence, in this paper, a key-dependent S-box is also proposed which is tested to satisfy the properties such as avalanche effect, strict avalanche criteria and confusion property. The results show that the proposed algorithm is effective for generating a key-dependent S-box and since the S-box is not pre-calculated, it can strengthen the AES cryptosystem against attacks launched by the fixed S-box analysis.

Quantum Key Generation Integration with AES Encryption for Quantum Attack Resilience

B S Spoorthi

Quantum cryptography, with the chance of advancement offered by its basis on the single principle of quantum mechanics, constitutes a notable point of strength in the advancement of new cryptography research. Utilizing the distinctive properties of quantum mechanism, such as qubits, quantum cryptography offers enhanced protection against quantum computer attacks. This paper proposes a novel quantum cryptographic algorithm that integrates quantum key generation with the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) technique to safeguard data from quantum threats. By combining quantum bit generation with AES encryption, the confidentiality of information exchanged between parties is preserved. The quantum bit generation technique exploits the inherent properties of quantum mechanics, particularly quantum superposition, to generate secure cryptographic keys. Leveraging the efficiency and robustness of the AES encoding standard, this approach offers heightened security against quantum attacks. Experimental analysis using MATLAB software validates the effectiveness of the proposed method.Top of Form

Feasibility of Quantum Cryptography with AES for Secure Communication

Nurul Muzfirah Binti Mustaffa, Nurulain Balqis Binti Mat Daud, Takumi Sase

Traditional encryption techniques face serious threats from the rapid development of quantum computing, which could soon compromise many classical algorithms. To address this, new quantum-resistant security methods are needed to protect private data and communications. This paper proposes a hybrid encryption approach that integrates quantum key distribution (QKD) with a simplified 3×3 advanced encryption standard (AES) key matrix, creating a lightweight system. The objective is to provide an efficient encryption method suitable for devices with limited processing power, such as IoT devices. The model was simulated using Qiskit, achieving an average quantum bit error rate of 0.00%, protocol efficiency of 49.72 %, and quantum fidelity of 1.000 under certain conditions. During eavesdropping scenarios, the error rate increased to 16.90 %. The simplified AES achieved a 50.14 % avalanche effect and an encryption time of 0.3073 ms, reducing latency by 17 % compared to standard AES. These results suggest that combining QKD with lightweight AES can provide quantum resilience and computational efficiency, offering a practical solution for secure communication in the post-quantum era.

Evolution of an Emerging Symmetric Quantum Cryptographic Algorithm

Omer K. Jasim Mohammad, Safia Abbas, El-Sayed M. Horbaty +1 more

With the rapid evolution of data exchange in network environments, information security has been the most important process for data storage and communication. In order to provide such information security, the confidentiality, data integrity, and data origin authentication must be verified based on cryptographic encryption algorithms. This paper presents a new emerging trend of modern symmetric encryption algorithm by development of the advanced encryption standard (AES) algorithm. The new development focuses on the integration between Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and an enhanced version of AES. A new quantum symmetric encryption algorithm, which is abbreviated as Quantum-AES (QAES), is the output of such integration. QAES depends on generation of dynamic quantum S-Boxes (DQS-Boxes) based quantum cipher key, instead of the ordinary used static S-Boxes. Furthermore, QAES exploits the specific selected secret key generated from the QKD cipher using two different modes (online and off-line).

Hybrid Quantum-Resistant Key Exchange Protocol for Secure Network Communication

Angamuthu G , Marikkannan M

Abstract - In the emerging era of quantum computing, traditional cryptographic algorithms such as RSA and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) are at risk from quantum-based attacks. These developments pose a significant threat to secure network communication systems that rely on classical key exchange mechanisms. To overcome this challenge, the proposed work introduces a Hybrid Quantum-Resistant Key Exchange Protocol that combines the strengths of both classical andpost-quantum cryptographic algorithms. The hybrid approach integrates Elliptic Curve Dif ie–Hellman (ECDH) with alattice-based post-quantum algorithm, Kyber, to establish a shared session key between communicating entities. This sharedkeyisthen utilized for symmetric encryption using AES to ensure confidentiality and data integrity. The system is implementedusingPython socket programming to demonstrate secure data transmission between client and server. Performance is analyzedinterms of key generation time, encryption and decryption speed, key size, and computational ef iciency. The results validatethatthe proposed hybrid model provides enhanced resistance against quantum attacks while maintaining acceptable performance, making it suitable for future secure communication systems. Keywords - elliptic curve dif ie–hellman, hybrid key exchange, kyber, post-quantum cryptography, quantum computing.

Cloud computing manifests exceptional capacity to facilitate easy to manage, cost effective, flexible and powerful resources across the internet. Due to maximum and shared utilization of utilization of resources, cloud computing enhances the capabilities of resources. There is a dire need for data security in the wake of the increasing capabilities of attackers and high magnitude of sensitive data. Cryptography is employed to ensure secrecy and authentication of data. Conventional information assurance methods are facing increasing technological advances such as radical developments in mathematics, potential to perform big computations and the prospects of wide-ranging quantum computations. Quantum cryptography is a promising solution towards absolute security in cryptosystems. This paper proposes integration of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm with quantum cryptography. The proposed scheme is robust and meets essential security requirements. The simulation results show that the Quantum AES produces complex keys which are hard to predict by adversaries than the keys generated by the AES itself.
