Abstract

We obtained a source of entangled photon pairs in the 1550-nm wavelength band using spontaneous four-wave mixing (SpFWM) in a Sagnac fiber loop. Time coincidence of entangled photon pairs was verified for a 300-m dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF), using an avalanche photodiode (APD).

Generation of polarization-entangled photon pairs and violation of Bell’s inequality using spontaneous four-wave mixing in a fiber loop

Hiroki Takesue, Kyo Inoue

We report the generation of polarization entangled photon pairs in the 1550-nm wavelength band using spontaneous four-wave mixing in a dispersion-shifted fiber loop. The use of the fiber-loop configuration made it possible to generate polarization entangled states very stably. With accidental coincidences subtracted, we obtained coincidence fringes with $>90%$ visibilities, and observed a violation of Bell's inequality by seven standard deviations. We also confirmed the preservation of the quantum correlation between the photons even after they had been separated by 20 km of optical fiber.

Entanglement swapping using telecom-band photons generated in fibers

Hiroki Takesue, Benjamin Miquel

We report the first entanglement swapping experiment using entangled photon-pair sources based on spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM). The 1.5-microm band entangled photon pairs generated by SFWM in two independent 500-m dispersion shifted fibers exhibited quantum interference, thanks to the negligible walk-off between the pump and photon pairs. The use of 500-MHz gated-mode InGaAs/InP avalanche photodiodes based on the sine-wave gating technique increased the fourfold coincidence rate. As a result, the formation of an entanglement between photons from independent sources was successfully observed.

Polarization-entangled photon pairs using spontaneous four-wave mixing in a fiber loop

We generate polarization-entangled photon pairs in the 1550-nm wavelength telecom band, using spontaneous four-wave mixing in a highly nonlinear fiber loop. With accidental coincidences subtracted, we obtain coincidence fringes with visibilities greater than 86%, and thus observe a violation of Clauser, Horne, Shimony and Holt (CHSH) inequality by 2.7 standard deviations. The experimental setup is built using only fiber connections, which contribute to its long time stability.

Visible Wavelength Polarization Entangled Photon-Pairs Using SFWM in Nondegenrate Spatial Modes

Kyungtaek Lee, Junha Jung, Ju Han Lee

We experimentally demonstrate the generation of photon-pairs in the visible wavelength band through an intermodal spontaneous four-wave mixing process between nondegenerate spatial pump modes. Polarization entangled photon-pairs are generated with a Sagnac loop configuration composed of a 10-m long few-mode fiber and a 532-nm, picosecond pump laser. The coincidence to accidental ratio of the photon-pair source was measured with respect to the pump power. The two-photon quantum state was characterized through the two-photon interference visibilities with 90.68% in the H/V basis and 80.55% in the D/A basis.

Generation of high-purity entangled photon pairs using silicon wire waveguide

We observed high-purity correlated and entangled photon pairs generated through spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) in a silicon wire waveguide (SWW). Employing a nano-scale silicon waveguide with a low loss mode size converter, we obtained a high coincidence to accidental coincidence ratio (CAR) of around 200 that was larger than that of cooled dispersion shifted fiber (DSF) by a factor 3.2, and observed the two-photon interference fringe of time-bin entangled photons with > 95% visibility without subtracting the accidental coincidences.
