Abstract

Frequency entangled photon pairs generated by using four wave mixing in a Sagnac fiber loop are presented. Coincidence detection shows the quantum interference in the form of spatial beating with a visibility of (95±2)%.

All-fiber source of frequency-entangled photon pairs

Xiaoying Li, Lei Yang, Xiaoxin Ma +3 more

We present an all-fiber source of frequency-entangled photon pairs by using four-wave mixing in a Sagnac fiber loop. Special care is taken to suppress the impurity of the frequency entanglement by cooling the fiber and by matching the polarization modes of the photon pairs counterpropagating in the fiber loop. Coincidence detection of signal and idler photons, which are created in pair and in different spatial modes of the fiber loop, shows the quantum interference in the form of spatial beating, while the single counts of the individual signal (idler) photons keep constant. When the production rate of photon pairs in each propagation direction of the fiber loop is about 0.065 pairs/pulse, the envelope of the quantum interference reveals a visibility of $(95\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}2)%$, which is close to the calculated theoretical limit 98.7%.

Fiber-based frequency-degenerate polarization entangled photon pair sources for information encoding

Feng Zhu, Wei Zhang, Yidong Huang

In this paper, a generation scheme of telecom band frequency-degenerate polarization entangled photon pairs is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. It is based on the vector spontaneous four wave mixing (SFWM) process in a Sagnac fiber loop, in which two frequency-degenerate and polarization orthogonal biphoton states have equal probabilities for generating along the clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. The quantum interference between them at the 50:50 fiber coupler of the fiber loop separates the two frequency-degenerate photons in a pair, leading to the generation of polarization entanglement. The raw fringe visibilities of the two-photon interferences under two non-orthogonal polarization bases are 91% and 90%, respectively. Information can be encoded on the generated photon pairs using the polarization entangled Bell states, which requires the frequency-degenerate property. It is demonstrated by a simplified Bell state measurement with a fringe visibility of 83%.

Fiber-based frequency-degenerate polarization-entanglement photon pair sources for information encoding

Feng Zhu, Wei Zhang, Yidong Huang

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a generation scheme of telecom-band fiber-based frequency-degenerate polarization-entanglement photon pair source. Basing on the vector spontaneous four wave mixing process in a Sagnac fiber loop along the clockwise and counter-clockwise directions, two frequency-degenerate and polarization orthogonal biphoton states generate and then lead to the polarization entanglement states by the interference at the beamsplitter. The raw fringe visibilities of the two-photon interferences are 97% and 92%, respectively. Information can be encoded on the generated photon pairs using the polarization entangled Bell states. It is demonstrated by a simplified Bell state measurement with a fringe visibility of 83%.

Time coincidence of entangled photon pairs using spontaneous four-wave mixing in a fiber loop

Álvaro J. Almeida, S. R. M. Carneiro, Nuno A. Silva +2 more

We obtained a source of entangled photon pairs in the 1550-nm wavelength band using spontaneous four-wave mixing (SpFWM) in a Sagnac fiber loop. Time coincidence of entangled photon pairs was verified for a 300-m dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF), using an avalanche photodiode (APD).

Generation and distribution of quantum entanglement in the telecom band with standard optical fiber

X. Li, Paul L. Voss, Jay E. Sharping +2 more

Polarization entangled photon pairs are produced by pumping the nonlinear-fiber Sagnac interferometer with orthogonally-polarized pulses. Parametrically scattered signal-idler photons yield biphoton interference with visibility greater than 95% in coincidence. When signal-idler photon pairs are physically propagated over 25 km of standard optical fiber, the quantum correlation is preserved.

High-Purity Telecom-Band Entangled Photon-Pairs via Four-Wave Mixing in Dispersion-Shifted Fiber

We have studied the purity of entangled photon-pairs generated in a dispersion-shifted fiber at various temperatures. Two-photon interference with visibility > 98% is observed at 77K, without subtraction of the background Raman photons.
