Abstract

A simple systematic procedure to construct the three-level unitary and orthogonal algebras which appear in the bosonic three -level pairing models and for arbitrary choice of level degeneracies is presented. We draw attention to the existence of the three types of dynamical symmetry. The new analytical expressions of the energies are derived. The results presented show very clearly the duality between orthogonal algebras and the quasi-spin algebras for the three-level system with pairing interactions. The seniority selection rules of the transition operators in three level boson system are given. Illustrative calculations are carried out for U 21 algebra.

Dual algebraic structures for the two-level pairing model

M. A. Caprio, Jacob H. Skrabacz, FRANCESCO IACHELLO

Duality relations are explicitly established relating the Hamiltonians and basis classification schemes associated with the number-conserving unitary and number-nonconserving quasispin algebras for the two-level system with pairing interactions. These relations are obtained in a unified formulation for both bosonic and fermionic systems, with arbitrary and, in general, unequal degeneracies for the two levels. Illustrative calculations are carried out comparing the bosonic and fermionic quantum phase transitions.

Approximate seniority-dictated boson-quasifermion mapping and derivation of the interacting boson fermion model

Abraham Klein, Jin Quan Chen

We derive an approximate boson-quasifermion mapping of a single-j shell-model algebra, applicable to the seniority classification scheme, as an expansion in the ratio of the seniority quantum number to the level degeneracy, with selective summation of higher order terms. The procedure used is an extension of the algebraic technique first applied to the purely bosonic part of the mapping by Bonatsos, Klein, and Li. Only the maps of the generators are needed to derive a Hamiltonian for the interacting boson fermion model (IBFM), and these can be obtained in Hermitian form without having to go through the intermediary of a mapping of the fermion operators. Application of the results is illustrated by a fresh discussion of the so-called exchange interaction of the IBFM. A consistent mapping of the single fermion in terms of bosons and quasifermions is also derived that includes a consideration of the unusual properties of the quasifermions.

Boson Expansions for an Exactly Soluble Model of Interacting Fermions with SU(3) Symmetry

Shou Yung Li, Abraham Klein, R. M. Dreizler

An exactly soluble three-level model for a system of fermions with Hamiltonian formed from generators of the group SU(3) is studied. A basis for the representation of which the ground state is a member is constructed. It is demonstrated that in this representation, the generators can each be expanded in a series as functions of a pair of ``kinematical'' boson operators; the series are uniquely determined to satisfy the operator algebra and the invariants of the representation by a method of Marumori. It is seen that the lowest anharmonic approximation to the Hamiltonian and other operators yields excellent numerical agreement with exact results for all regimes of interaction strength considered. An alternative description of the system in terms of a dynamically more meaningful boson, called the ``physical'' boson, is shown to be appropriate for relatively weak coupling where one has a near harmonic spectrum.

SU(3) Richardson–Gaudin models: three-level systems

Sergio Lerma-Hernández, B. Errea

We present the exact solution of the Richardson–Gaudin models associated with the SU (3) Lie algebra. The derivation is based on a Gaudin algebra valid for any simple Lie algebra in the rational, trigonometric and hyperbolic cases. For the rational case additional cubic integrals of motion are obtained, whose number is added to that of the quadratic ones to match, as required from the integrability condition, the number of quantum degrees of freedom of the model. We discuss different SU (3) physical representations and elucidate the meaning of the parameters entering in the formalism. By considering a bosonic mapping limit of one of the SU (3) copies, we derive new integrable models for three level systems interacting with two bosons. These models include a generalized Tavis–Cummings model for three level atoms interacting with two modes of the quantized electric field.

AN ALGEBRAIC APPROACH TO THE INTERACTION OF A THREE-LEVEL ATOM INTERACTING WITH QUANTIZED RADIATION FIELD

Xu‐Bo Zou, Jing‐Bo Xu, Xiao-Chun Gao +1 more

The system of a three-level atom in the Ξ configuration coupled to two quantized field modes with arbitrary detuning and density-dependent multiphoton interaction is studied by dynamical algebraic method. With the help of an su(3) algebraic structure, we diagonalize the Hamiltonian by making use of unitary transformations and obtain the eigenvalues, eigenstates and time evolution operator for the system. Based on this su(3) structure, we also show that the system of a three-level atom in the Ξ configuration can be exactly transformed to an effective two-level Hamiltonian by an unitary transformation. Finally, we show that there exist an su (N) algebraic structure in the system of a N-level atom interacting with N-1 field modes.

Dynamic algebraic approach to the system of a three-level atom in the Λ configuration

Jing‐Bo Xu, Xu‐Bo Zou

The system of a three-level atom coupled to two quantized field modes with arbitrary detuning and density-dependent multiphoton interaction is studied by a dynamical algebraic method. We find an alternative su(3) dynamical algebraic structure within the system. Based on this su(3) structure, we diagonalize the Hamiltonian by making use of unitary transformations and obtain the eigenvalues, eigenstates, and time evolution operator for the system. The effective two-level Hamiltonian is also derived by unitary transformation. Finally the system governed by the Milburn equation is discussed and the exact solution of the Milburn equation presented.
