The higher-order tensor renormalization group (HOTRG) is a fundamental method to calculate the physical quantities by using a tensor network representation. This method is based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) to take the contraction of all indices in the network with an approximation. For the SVD, randomized singular value decomposition (R-SVD) is a powerful method to reduce computational costs of SVD. However, HOTRG with the randomized method is not established. We propose a randomized HOTRG method in a dimension
d with the computational cost
O(D3d) depending on the truncated bond dimension
D. We also introduce the minimally-decomposed TRG (MDTRG) as the R-HOTRG on the tensor of order
d+1 with
O(D2d+1) and a triad representation of the MDTRG (Triad-MDTRG) with
O(Dd+3). The results from these formulations are consistent with the HOTRG result with the same truncated bond dimension
D.
General higher-order stochastic processes that correspond to any diffusion-type tensor of higher than second order are obtained. The relationship of multivariate higher-order stochastic differential equations with tensor decomposition theory and tensor rank is explained. Techniques for generating the requisite complex higher-order noise are proved to exist either using polar coordinates and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ distributions, or from products of Gaussian variates. This method is shown to allow the calculation of the dynamics of the Wigner function, after it is extended to a complex phase space. The results are illustrated physically through dynamical calculations of the positive Wigner distribution for three-mode parametric downconversion, widely used in quantum optics. The approach eliminates paradoxes arising from truncation of the higher derivative terms in Wigner function time evolution. Anomalous results of negative populations and vacuum scattering found in truncated Wigner quantum simulations in quantum optics and Bose-Einstein condensate dynamics are shown not to occur with this type of stochastic theory.
We determine the border subrank of higher order structure tensors of several families of algebras, and in particular obtain the following results. (1) We determine tight bounds on the border subrank of
k-fold matrix multiplication and
k-fold upper triangular matrix multiplication for all
k. (2) We determine the border subrank of the higher order structure tensors of truncated polynomial algebras, null algebras, and apolar algebras of a quadric. (3) We determine the border subrank of the higher order structure tensors of the Lie algebra
sl2 for all orders. (4) We prove that degeneration of structure tensors of algebras propagates from higher to lower order. Along the way, we investigate which upper bound methods (geometric rank,
G-stable rank, socle degree) are effective in which settings, and how they relate. Our work extends the results of Strassen (J.~Reine Angew.~Math., 1987, 1991), who determined the asymptotic subrank of these algebras for tensors of order three, in two directions: we determine the border subrank itself rather than its asymptotic version, and we consider higher order structure tensors.
