Abstract

We develop a biorthogonal formalism for non-Hermitian multimode and multiphoton Jaynes–Cummings models. For these models, we define supersymmetric generators, which are especially convenient for diagonalizing the Hamiltonians. The Hamiltonian and its adjoint are expressed in terms of supersymmetric generators having the Lie superalgebra properties. The method consists in using a similarity dressing operator that maps onto spaces suitable for diagonalizing Hamiltonians even in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. We then successfully solve the eigenproblems related to the Hamiltonian and its adjoint. For each model, the eigenvalues are real, while the eigenstates do not form a set of orthogonal vectors. We then introduce the biorthogonality formalism to construct a consistent theory.

Exactly solvable non-Hermitian Jaynes–Cummings-type Hamiltonian admitting entirely real spectra from supersymmetry

Pijush K Ghosh

It is shown that for a given Hermitian Hamiltonian possessing supersymmetry, there is always a non-Hermitian Jaynes–Cummings-type Hamiltonian (JCTH) admitting entirely real spectra. The parent supersymmetric Hamiltonian and the corresponding non-Hermitian JCTH are simultaneously diagonalizable. The exact eigenstates of these non-Hermitian Hamiltonians are constructed algebraically for certain shape-invariant potentials, including a non-Hermitian version of the standard Jaynes–Cummings (JC) model for which the parent supersymmetric Hamiltonian is the superoscillator. It is also shown that a non-Hermitian version of the several physically motivated generalizations of the JC model admits entirely real spectra. The positive-definite metric operator in the Hilbert space is constructed explicitly along with the introduction of a new inner product structure, so that the eigenstates form a complete set of orthonormal vectors and the time evolution is unitary.

Solving a Generalized Jaynes-Cummings Model by Supersymmetric Unitary Transformation

Lu Huai-Xin, Wang Xiao-Qin, Fan Hong-Yi

For the generalized Jaynes-Cummings model Hamiltonian which can describe two collectively radiation atoms, we find its supersymmetric structure. Based on supersymmetric quantum mechanics theory, we introduce a supersymmetric unitary transformation, in which the supersymmetric unitary transformation operator can be constructed by supersymmetric generators of the super-Lie algebra, to diagonalize the Hamiltonian. On doing so, its eigenvalue and eigenstates are obtained.

Solving Generalized Non-degenerate Two-Mode Two-Photon Jaynes–Cummings Model by Supersymmetric Unitary Transformation

Song Tong-Qiang, Zhu Yue-Jin

Based on supersymmetric quantum mechanics theory, we introduced a supersymmetric unitary transformation to diagonalize the Hamiltonian of non-degenerate two-mode two-photon Jaynes–Cummings models which include any forms of intensity-dependent coupling, field-dependent detuning, and field nonlinearity. Its eigenvalue, eigenstates, and time evolution of state vector are obtained.

Biorthogonal quantum mechanics

Dorje C. Brody

The Hermiticity condition in quantum mechanics required for the characterization of (a) physical observables and (b) generators of unitary motions can be relaxed into a wider class of operators whose eigenvalues are real and whose eigenstates are complete. In this case, the orthogonality of eigenstates is replaced by the notion of biorthogonality that defines the relation between the Hilbert space of states and its dual space. The resulting quantum theory, which might appropriately be called 'biorthogonal quantum mechanics', is developed here in some detail in the case for which the Hilbert-space dimensionality is finite. Specifically, characterizations of probability assignment rules, observable properties, pure and mixed states, spin particles, measurements, combined systems and entanglements, perturbations, and dynamical aspects of the theory are developed. The paper concludes with a brief discussion on infinite-dimensional systems.
