Population transfer in four-level ladder system assisted by dressing fields

Rui Zhang

Even-N-level ladder system has been analyzed for population transfer by counterintuitive frequency-chirped laser pulse,in which N-2 intermediate states are strongly coupled by dressing laser field. The specific analysis for the four-level ladder system has been carried out by using a dressed-state picture,as representative for even-N-system.It is found that a well-controlled pulse area is required for complete population transfer from |1〉|4〉 if the dressing field is sufficiently strong and on resonance. And it is essential to detune the pump and Stokes laser so that one of the dressed intermediate states is on resonance, leading to the reduction of the whole system to the three-level system.

Quantum control of dressed state population for Li 2 molecules by intense femtosecond laser pulses

Xiao Han, Wei-Shen Zhan, Shuo Wang +2 more

Abstract We investigated the Autler–Townes splitting in photoelectron spectra of molecules steered by ultrashort laser pulses using the time-dependent wave-packet method. Structure of the Autler–Townes splitting was presented to analyze the information of a selective population of the dressed states. It was found that population transfer process, structure of photoelectron spectrum and pattern of Autler–Townes splitting can be controlled by adjusting the intensity, wavelength and delay time of laser pulses.

Coherent control of electrons, atoms and molecules with intense shaped light pulses

M. Wollenhaupt, Tim Bayer, Marc Krug +2 more

We report on a physical mechanism of coherent control with intense shaped femtosecond laser pulses. We study photoelectron spectra from multi-photon ionization of potassium atoms and dimers using tailored femtosecond laser pulses. Our results are interpreted in terms of Selective Population of Dressed States (SPODS). Two realizations of SPODS by Photon Locking (PL) via pulse sequences and Rapid Adiabatic Passage (RAP) via chirped pulses are discussed. New physical mechanisms arise, when both PL and RAP are at play simultaneously. Control by the combined effect of PL and RAP is studied by mapping out a two-parameter Quantum Control Landscape (QCL) for selective population of dressed states.
