Low-frequency emission in resonant processes

Abstract

The paper shows analytically that any resonant interaction of quantum particles in media having no symmetry centre with a high-frequency exciting field produces low-frequency radiation. Media particles may not necessarily have a constant dipole moment. Conditions are identified when carrier frequency of low-frequency radiation coincides with nutational oscillations of resonant level populations and is readily controlled both by high-frequency resonant radiation intensity and by resonance detuning.

Rabi frequency as a carrier frequency of radiation

Ashat M. Basharov

It has been shown that the resonance interaction of particles with an electromagnetic wave in optically thin ensembles of particles with a permanent dipole moment generates low-frequency (terahertz or subterahertz) radiation with the carrier frequency equal to the frequency of nutation oscillations of the exciting wave.

Generation of High-Frequency Radiation in the Conditions of Superradiance of Particles with a Constant Dipole Moment

Ashat M. Basharov, Andrew I. Trubilko

Abstract A localized ensemble of identical particles with a constant dipole moment generates during superradiance a coherent pulse of low-frequency radiation, the pulse shape depending significantly on the number of particles in the ensemble. In particular, low-frequency radiation pulse is transformed from one-hump to two-hump shape in a narrow range of variation of ensemble parameters.

Media of asymmetric atomic systems as low-frequency radiation sources.

Piotr Gładysz, Karolina Słowik

If a two-level atomic system characterized by inversion symmetry in space is coupled to a classical electromagnetic field, it undergoes Rabi oscillations where the population flips between the ground and excited levels. We investigate a scenario, where a system of broken inversion symmetry is used instead. In such case the dynamics is modified for the following reason: Eigenstates of an asymmetric system can be characterized with a permanent electric dipole moment originating from the polarization of charges, which plays a significant role of an additional source of dipole radiation. Its frequency corresponds to the Rabi frequency of population transfer between the eigenstates and therefore is optically tunable with the intensity of the driving field. We construct the numerical solver to simulate the medium of such asymmetric systems driven by the laser beam and by the Bloch-Maxwell equations calculate the generated radiation's propagation.

Generation of terahertz impulse via an excited localized ensemble of identical particles with a permanent dipole moment

Ashat M. Basharov

The paper states a simple and analytically solvable model for the generation of low-frequency emission via a localized excited ensemble of identical two-level quantum particles with a permanent dipole moment in conditions of collective spontaneous emission of the atomic ensemble.

Generation of terahertz radiation in the interaction of coherent electromagnetic wave with a resonant medium in a constant external electric field

Ashat M. Basharov

The paper shows that it is sufficient to place a resonance medium in an external dc electric field for the generation of low-frequency radiation at the resonant interaction of the medium and a coherent wave with carrier frequency of the optical range. Under certain conditions the carrier frequency of the generated radiation equals the Rabi frequency of the resonant interaction.

Dipole emission of a nanostructure system composed of two atoms and dimensional resonances

O. N. Gadomskiĭ, Yu. V. Abramov

A stationary solution is obtained for the joint system of equations for atomic and field variables for two different atoms with dipole-dipole interaction in the radiation field taking into account the common radiative friction. The atoms are treated as an Lorentz oscillator with one isolated resonance. The interaction of atoms in the radiation field forms four dimensional resonances at frequencies that are substantially different from the natural frequencies of isolated atoms. Two of the four dimensional resonances are characterized by negative dispersion, and the intensity of dipole emission at these frequencies may be increased with respect to the intensity of emission at the frequencies of natural atomic resonances by a factor of about 10 12 .
