Abstract

The pump-probe method of studying of the optical properties of a semiconductor in the exciton region of a spectrum is considered theoretically taking into account the exciton–photon and elastic exciton–exciton interactions. It is shown that the concentration of excitons, and the susceptibility of the medium are mainly determined by the detuning from the exciton resonance and the magnitude of the pump field. The values of the parameters corresponding to the observed parametric resonance are obtained and the dynamic analysis of the found solutions is carried out.

Nonlinear excitonic susceptibilities of semiconductors at high levels of excitation

P. I. Khadzhi, D. V. Tkachenko

The hysteretical behavior of imaginary and real parts of the semiconductor susceptibility in the exciton range of spectrum taking into account the exciton-photon and elastic exciton- exciton interaction in the pump-probe regime depending on the intensity and frequency of the strong pump laser pulse and on the frequency of the test pulse is studied. The conditions of the emergence of the damping suppression and test pulse gain are determined. The abrupt red and blue shifts of the spectral position of the exciton absorption band depending on the intensity of the pump pulse are predicted.

Optical nutation in the exciton range of spectrum

P. I. Khadzhi, V. V. Vasiliev

Optical nutation in the exciton range of spectrum is studied in the mean field approximation taking into account exciton-photon and elastic exciton-exciton interactions. It is shown that the features of nutation development are determined by the initial exciton and photon densities, the resonance detuning, the nonlinearity parameter, and the initial phase difference. For nonzero initial exciton and photon concentrations, three regimes of temporal evolution of excitons and photons exist: periodic conversion of excitons to photons and vice versa, aperiodic conversion of photons to excitons, and the rest regime. In the rest regime, the initial exciton and photon densities are nonzero and do not change with time. The oscillation amplitudes and periods of particle densities determined by the system parameters are found. The exciton self-trapping and photon trapping appearing in the system at threshold values of the nonlinearity parameter were predicted. As this parameter increases, the oscillation amplitudes of the exciton and photon densities sharply change at the critical value of the nonlinearity parameter. These two phenomena are shown to be caused by the elastic exciton-exciton interaction, resulting in the dynamic concentration shift of the exciton level.

Optical properties of semicomductor in exciton range of spectrum in presence of strong pump pulse in m–band of luminescence

P.I. Hadji

The behavior of the semiconductor dielectric susceptibility in the exciton range of spectrum due to the interaction with photons of a weak test pulse under the stationary action of a strong pump pulse in the range of M–band of luminescence is investigated. It is shown that the well pronounced Autler–Townes effect occurs at the exciton resonance. The position of the absorption peaks is determined by the amplitude and frequency of the pump pulse.

Characteristic features of the steady-state transmission (reflection) by a thin semiconductor film in the exciton part of the spectrum

P. I. Khadzhi, D. V. Tkachenko, S L Gaivan

The steady-state transmission (reflection) of laser radiation by a thin semiconductor film was investigated taking into account the exciton — photon and elastic exciton — exciton interactions. Under certain conditions the resultant dependences of the transmission by a thin film on the amplitude of the incident radiation and on the detuning from a resonance exhibit a hysteresis, which can be explained by a shift of the exciton level when the exciton density is increased.

Optical properties of a semiconductor in the exciton spectral region under exposure to a high-power pump pulse in the M-band region

P. I. Khadzhi, L. Yu. Nad’kin

The behavior of the dielectric susceptibility of a semiconductor is studied in the case where the exciton state is probed by weak-pulse photons in the presence of a high-power laser pulse in the region of the M band of CuCl luminescence. A pronounced Autler-Townes effect for the exciton transition is shown to occur. The absorption peak position is determined by the amplitude and frequency of the pump field.
