Optical nutation in the exciton range of spectrum

Abstract

Optical nutation in the exciton range of spectrum is studied in the mean field approximation taking into account exciton-photon and elastic exciton-exciton interactions. It is shown that the features of nutation development are determined by the initial exciton and photon densities, the resonance detuning, the nonlinearity parameter, and the initial phase difference. For nonzero initial exciton and photon concentrations, three regimes of temporal evolution of excitons and photons exist: periodic conversion of excitons to photons and vice versa, aperiodic conversion of photons to excitons, and the rest regime. In the rest regime, the initial exciton and photon densities are nonzero and do not change with time. The oscillation amplitudes and periods of particle densities determined by the system parameters are found. The exciton self-trapping and photon trapping appearing in the system at threshold values of the nonlinearity parameter were predicted. As this parameter increases, the oscillation amplitudes of the exciton and photon densities sharply change at the critical value of the nonlinearity parameter. These two phenomena are shown to be caused by the elastic exciton-exciton interaction, resulting in the dynamic concentration shift of the exciton level.

Peculiarities of two-photon optical nutation of biexcitons in semiconductors taking into account elastic interparticle interactions

P. I. Khadzhi, V. V. Vasiliev

The peculiarities of two-photon nutation in a system of coherent biexcitons in CuCl semiconductors are considered taking into account the elastic biexciton — biexciton interaction. It is shown that depending on the system parameters, optical nutation represents a process of periodic transformation of photon pairs into biexcitons and vice versa. The possibility of exercising the phase control of the optical nutation process is predicted.

Self-trapping phenomenon in exciton-polariton dynamics

Olga F. Vasilieva, P. I. Khadzhi

The polariton dynamics in a microcavity in the parametric oscillator mode, when two pump polaritons are transformed into signal and idler polaritons and vice versa, has been studied. A nonlinear differential equation is obtained, which describes the temporal evolution of pump-polariton density, the solution of which is expressed in terms of the Jacobi elliptical functions. The amplitude and period of polaritondensity oscillations are determined by the initial polariton densities and the resonance detuning. The possibility of self-trapping in exciton-polariton dynamics is predicted.

Dynamic analysis of the parametric-resonance effect in the exciton region of a spectrum

L. Yu. Nad’kin, P. I. Khadzhi, K. D. Lyakhomskaya

The pump-probe method of studying of the optical properties of a semiconductor in the exciton region of a spectrum is considered theoretically taking into account the exciton–photon and elastic exciton–exciton interactions. It is shown that the concentration of excitons, and the susceptibility of the medium are mainly determined by the detuning from the exciton resonance and the magnitude of the pump field. The values of the parameters corresponding to the observed parametric resonance are obtained and the dynamic analysis of the found solutions is carried out.
