Abstract

In this paper, we study the chaotic behavior of a two-photon quantum optical model. The results show that the model can exhibit chaotic behavior without any perturbation or modulation terms. The chaos is characterized by Fourier analysis and the maximal Lyapunov exponent. The properties of the chaotic behavior are also discussed. We proved that the two-photon J-C model, which contains the rotating-wave approximation, cannot exhibit chaotic behavior.

Chaotic dynamics for a system of two-level atoms interacting with photons

Some quantum optical models possessing a transition from regular to chaotic dynamics and influence of 'quantum chaos' to photons statistics are investigated. Particular cases of semiclassical dynamics of a single atom and cooperative system of these atoms with (2j + 1) -- equidistant levels interacting with a quantized photon mode in an ideal cavity were considered. We take into account parametric pumping. Corresponding equations of motion are received without the rotation-wave approximation. It was demonstrated the scenario of transition to chaos, realized by doubling frequencies mechanism with growing of 'atom + field' coupling constant. Chaotic behavior and squeezing degree time dependence were obtained in computer simulations for coupling constant values of order of the atomic frequency, the calculation of the maximal Lyapunov coefficient for the dynamics of many two- level atoms interacting with photon cavity mode as function of 'atoms + field' interaction constant is performed. An influence of possible parametric instabilities of nonlinear media and effects of dissipation for atoms are discussed.

Chaos in the Semiclassical N -Atom Jaynes-Cummings Model: Failure of the Rotating-Wave Approximation

Peter W. Milonni, Jay R. Ackerhalt, H. W. Galbraith

The problem of a collection of two-level atoms interacting with a single-mode classical electromagnetic field is considered. It is found that the model with an initial population inversion exhibits chaotic behavior that becomes stronger for higher atomic number density. The chaos is characterized by Fourier analysis and the maximal Lyapunov exponent. In the rotating-wave approximation, however, there is no prediction of chaos.

Chaotic dynamics in a nonautonomous Dicke model without the rotating-wave approximation

Igor Leonidovich Kirilyuk

The properties of a system consisting of two-level atoms interacting with a mode of the electromagnetic field in a cavity are considered for the case when the cavity detuning or the coefficient of the atom-field interaction is modulated. The consideration is performed with account taken of the Hamiltonian terms that are neglected in the rotating-wave approximation. It is shown that in the semiclassical equations for such a model, the effect of extension (compared to the autonomous system) of the range of variation of the quantity characterizing the number of photons can manifest itself; in this case, the energy oscillations have a chaotic character. The dependence of this phenomenon on parameters characterizing the model is studied. It is numerically demonstrated that with account taken for the relaxation, the system studied can have attractors different from the equilibrium positions, i.e., the number of photons in the mode does not tend to a constant value. The limits of validity of the rotating-wave approximation in the parametrically perturbed Dicke model are discussed.

Bifurcation and Chaos in Two-Photon Optical Multistability

Ying-Hai Wang, Huawei Yin

Investigation of the two-photon optical multistability (tristability and double-bistability) has revealed the existence of the spontaneous oscillation and chaotic motion. By the information obtained from the time-dependent solution, power spectra, Lyapunov exponents and phase trajectory, we proved evidence of the bifurcation structure for tristability, and show the existence of two coexisting at tractors for the double-bistability.

Dynamics of Two-Photon Lasers with Λ Atomic Level Configuration

Peng Yang, Qian Feng, HUANG HONG-BIN +2 more

We derive the dimensionless dynamic equations of two-photon lasers with Λ atomic level configuration by using the quantum Langevin equation method with the considerations of atomic coherence and injected classical fields. Then we analyze the stability and the chaotic dynamics of the two-photon laser by calculating the bifurcation diagram and the maximum Lyapunov exponent (MLE). Our results show that the Lorenz strange attractors and one-focus strange attractors can exist in this system, and the chaos can be induced or inhibited by the injected classical fields via Hopf-bifurcations or crises, while the atomic coherence induces chaos via crises, and inhibit chaos via Hopf bifurcation or crises.
