Abstract

Using short-time dynamics and analytical solution of Heisenberg equation of motion for the Hamiltonian of quadratically-coupled optomechanical system for different field modes, we have investigated the existence of higher-order single mode squeezing, sum squeezing and difference squeezing in absence of driving and dissipation.Depth of squeezing increases with order number for higher-order single mode squeezing.Squeezing factor exhibits a series of revival-collapse phenomena for single mode, which becomes more pronounced as order number increases. In case of sum squeezing amounts of squeezing is greater than single mode higher-order squeezing (n = 2).It is also greater than from difference squeezing for same set of interaction parameters.Sum squeezing is prominently better for extracting information regarding squeezing.

Time-evolution of nonlinear optomechanical systems: interplay of mechanical squeezing and non-Gaussianity

Sofia Qvarfort, Alessio Serafini, André Xuereb +3 more

Abstract We solve the time evolution of a nonlinear optomechanical Hamiltonian with arbitrary time-dependent mechanical displacement, mechanical single-mode squeezing and a time-dependent optomechanical coupling up to the solution of two second-order differential equations. The solution is based on identifying a minimal and finite Lie algebra that generates the time-evolution of the system. This reduces the problem to considering a finite set of coupled ordinary differential equations of real functions. To demonstrate the applicability of our method, we compute the degree of non-Gaussianity of the time-evolved state of the system by means of a measure based on the relative entropy of the non-Gaussian state and its closest Gaussian reference state. We find that the addition of a constant mechanical squeezing term to the standard optomechanical Hamiltonian generally decreases the overall non-Gaussian character of the state. For sinusoidally modulated squeezing, the two second-order differential equations mentioned above take the form of the Mathieu equation. We derive perturbative solutions for a small squeezing amplitude at parametric resonance and show that they correspond to the rotating-wave approximation at times larger than the scale set by the mechanical frequency. We find that the non-Gaussianity of the state increases with both time and the squeezing parameter in this specific regime.

Time Evolution, Dynamical Quantum Fluctuation and High-Order Squeezing Feature in Polariton System — I

Guo-Dong Liang, Xiao-Min Yu, Chaofan Yu

We have set up a new reduced model Hamiltonian for the polariton system, in which the nonlinear interaction contains the rotating term k 1 (a + b + ab + ) and the attractive two-mode squeezed coupling −k 2 (a + b + +ab). The dynamical evolution of this system has been solved and the nonclassical features relevant to the second-order and high-order squeezing have been obtained in an analytical form. For the first time, in contrast to the existing result, we have confirmed for the phonon field that the attractive two-mode squeezed interaction will not only result in the second-order and high-order squeezing in X-component with the time evolution, but also in time average. Furthermore, the phenomena of collapse and revival of inversion will occur as well in the time evolution of the average number of photon and phonon, as also in the second-order and high-order squeezing of photon field, particularly, in the high-order squeezing of phonon field.

nTH-ORDER SQUEEZING OF THE FIELD AMPLITUDE IN RAMAN PROCESS AS A GENERALIZATION OF THE HIGHER-ORDER SQUEEZING

Dilip Kumar Giri, Partha Sarathi Gupta

The concept of nth-order amplitude squeezing is introduced in the fundamental mode in Raman process as a generalization of the higher-order squeezing under short-time approximation based on a fully quantum mechanical approach. The condition for occurrence of nth-order squeezing is obtained from which higher-order squeezing up to n = 5 are studied. The coupled Heisenberg equation of motion involving real and imaginary parts of the quadrature operators is established. Dependence of squeezing on photon number is also established.

Higher-order squeezing of quantum electromagnetic fields and higher-order uncertainty relations in two-mode squeezed states

Xi-Zeng Li, Su Bao-Xia, Chai Lu

It is found that the two-mode output quantum electromagnetic field in two-mode squeezed states exhibits higher-order squeezing to all even orders and the degree of higher-order squeezing is greater than that of the second-order. The higher-order squeezed parameter and squeezed limit due to the modulation frequency are investigated. The smaller the modulation frequency is, the stronger the degree of higher-order squeezing becomes. Furthermore, the higher-order uncertainty relations in two-mode squeezed states are presented for the first time. The product of higher-order noise moments is related to even order number N and the squeeze factor r .

Higher-order squeezing of the electromagnetic field in spontaneous and stimulated Raman processes

Dilip Kumar Giri, Partha Sarathi Gupta

The occurrence of fourth and fifth-order squeezing in the fundamental mode of the electromagnetic field in spontaneous and stimulated Raman processes under the short-time approximation is investigated on the basis of a fully quantum-mechanical approach. In an idealized model, the Raman process is looked upon as a two-photon on a one phonon interaction process. The coupled Heisenberg equations of motion involving real and imaginary parts of the quadrature operators are established. The dependence of fourth- and fifth-order squeezing in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio on the number of photons is investigated. We have also established the amplitude squeezing effects in the Stokes and vibrational modes, which is found to be dependent on higher-order difference squeezing showing a difference squeezing that can be converted to normal squeezing.

Quantum mechanical study of a generic quadratically coupled optomechanical system

Hongyan Shi, Mishkatul Bhattacharya

Typical optomechanical systems involving optical cavities and mechanical oscillators rely on a coupling that varies linearly with the oscillator displacement. However, recently a coupling varying instead as the square of the mechanical displacement has been realized, presenting new possibilities for nondemolition measurements and mechanical squeezing. In this article we present a quantum mechanical study of a generic quadratic-coupling optomechanical Hamiltonian. First, neglecting dissipation, we provide analytical results for the dressed states, spectrum, phonon statistics and entanglement. Subsequently, accounting for dissipation, we supply a numerical treatment using a master equation approach. We expect our results to be of use to optomechanical spectroscopy, state transfer, wave-function engineering, and entanglement generation.
