Electromagnetically Induced Self-Imaging in Four-Level Doppler Broadening Medium

Abstract

We show the influences of temperature on the self-imaging in the coherent atomic system which consists of four-level 87 Rb atoms. The different-direction self-imaging, the corresponding imaging quality, and the imaging contrast ratio in this Doppler broadening medium are studied. As a result, the imaging-position linearly increases with the temperature, while the quality of the self-imaging does not show clear connection with the temperature. Due to the weaker mutual interference in the higher temperature, the contrast ratios in the two directions increase. The interesting results are important and may have potential applications in imaging storage and processing.

Electromagnetically induced self-imaging in the Doppler broadening medium

Chunfang Wang, Jing Cheng, Shensheng Han

Under the condition of electromagnetically induced transparency, self-imaging in three-level Lambda-type atoms at normal temperature is studied. The influences of the temperature on the position of the self-imaging and the corresponding imaging quality are discussed in detail. Numerical results show that, with the increase of the temperature, the location of the self-imaging linearly moves away from the original object, and the self-imaging quality decreases.

Electromagnetically induced self-imaging in four-level atomic system

Feng Wang, Chunfang Wang, Jing Cheng +1 more

In this paper, a special gradient-index electromagnetically induced transparency medium is induced with a Gaussian control field, which can be realized in a four-level ⁸⁷Rb cold atomic cloud. Special directional self-imaging and imaging transforming properties are studied in this work. Simulated results show that a complex object can be imaged in the cold atoms, as the control field substituted with the elliptical Gaussian beam, then the self-imaging is directional, which has potental application in encryption.

Electromagnetic induced transparency in the Doppler broadened cascade transition with multiple excited levels

Vineet Bharti, Ajay Wasan

A theoretical model using the density matrix approach has been presented to show the influence of multiple excited states on electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a cascade-type Doppler broadened medium. A five-level system has been considered that is a simple case of the 87 Rb atom. In a room temperature vapour, when the Doppler broadening is comparable with hyperfine splitting in the middle states, there is a strong reduction in EIT. By performing the thermal averaging in the five-level Doppler broadened system, we observe an asymmetric transparency that has already been shown in most of the experimental work.

Electromagnetically induced transparency in a five-level cascade system under Doppler broadening: an analytical approach

Dinh Xuan Khoa, Pham Van Trong, Le Van Doai +1 more

Abstract We develop an analytical approach on electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a Doppler broadened medium consisting of five-level cascade systems excited by a strong coupling and weak probe laser fields. In a weak field limit of the probe light, EIT spectrum is interpreted as functions of controllable parameters of the coupling light and temperature of the medium. The theoretical interpretation of EIT spectrum is applied to the case of 85 Rb atoms and compared with available experimental observation. Such an analytical interpretation provides quantitative parameters to control properties of the Doppler broadened EIT medium, and it is useful to find related applications.

Influence of Doppler broadening on cross-Kerr nonlinearity in a four-level inverted-Y system: An analytical approach

Nguyen Huy Bang, Dinh Xuan Khoa, Nguyen Le Thuy An +3 more

In this work, we study the influence of Doppler broadening on cross-Kerr nonlinearity in a four-level inverted-Y atomic system under electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) condition. The first- and third-susceptibilities in the presence of Doppler effect are derived as a function of probe, signal and coupling beams and temperature of medium. Under EIT condition, cross-Kerr nonlinearity is enhanced several orders of magnitude compared to that without EIT. The Doppler effect leads to a reduction in the transparent efficiency and thus reduces the amplitude of cross-Kerr nonlinear coefficient. For hot atomic gaseous medium, such consideration of the Doppler effect may be useful for experimental observations and apply to photonic devices operating at different temperature conditions.

Observation of Doppler-free electromagnetically induced transparency in atoms selected optically with specific velocity

Hoon Yu, Kwan-Su Kim, Jung Dong Kim +2 more

We observed an electromagnetically induced transparency signal in a four-level system with optically selected rubidium atoms at specific velocities in a room-temperature vaporized cell. Since the atoms behave like cold atoms in the selected atomic view, the observed signals coincide with a trapped atomic system. According to this result, we can observe Doppler-free signals, which correspond from 1.2 to 1.0 K in a Doppler-broadened medium. And the selected atoms have velocity components of \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}(131 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 3) MHz per wave number. Our experimental results can provide insight for research in cold media.
