Single-photon frequency shifting with a quadrature phase-shift keying modulator

Changchen Chen, Jane E. Heyes, Jeffrey H. Shapiro +1 more

Deterministic frequency manipulation of single photons is an essential tool for quantum communications and quantum networks. We demonstrate a 15.65 GHz frequency shift for classical and nonclassical light using a commercially available quadrature phase-shift keying modulator. The measured spectrum of frequency-shifted single photons indicates a high carrier-to-sideband ratio of 30 dB. We illustrate our frequency shifter's utility in quantum photonics by performing Hong-Ou-Mandel quantum interference between two photons whose initial frequency spectra overlap only partially, and showing visibility improvement from 62.7 to 89.1% after one of the photons undergoes a corrective frequency shift.

Frequency conversion in silicon in the single photon regime

Bryn A. Bell, Jiakun He, Chunle Xiong +1 more

Quantum communication networks require single photon frequency converters, whether to shift photons between wavelength channels, to shift photons to the operating wavelength of a quantum memory, or to shift photons of different wavelengths to be of the same wavelength, to enable a quantum interference. Here, we demonstrate frequency conversion of laser pulses attenuated to the single photon regime in an integrated silicon-on-insulator device using four-wave mixing Bragg scattering, with conversion efficiencies of up to 12%, or 32% after correcting for nonlinear loss created by the pump lasers. The frequency shift can be conveniently chosen by tuning of the pump frequencies. We demonstrate that such frequency conversion enables interference between photons at different frequencies.

The Doppler frequency shift of a moving ladder-type three level atom in broad-band squeezed vacuum

Yuan Hai-liang

By analyzing the influence of the motion of the atoms on the steady-state populations of the atomic levels,we found that the Doppler frequency shift in the double-photon resonance occurs near to the zero double-photon detuning and the Doppler frequency shift in the single-photon resonauce near to the zero single-photon detuning. The double-photon resonance near to zero double-photon detuning does not make the Doppler frequency shift occured when atoms are driven by two counter propagating but same frequency laser beams.
