Abstract

With the assistance of weak cross-Kerr nonlinearities, we present a preparation scheme of four-photon polarization-entangled decoherence-free states, which can be used to construct the minimal optical decoherence-free subspaces where a logical qubit is fully protected against collective decoherence. To complete the preparation task, one spatial entanglement process, two polarization entanglement processes, and one detecting process are applied. The fulfillments of the above processes are contributed by a cross-Kerr nonlinear interaction between the signal photons and a coherent state via Kerr media. Exploiting the available single-photon resource and simple linear optics elements, this scheme is feasible and desirable to be extended to the construction of multiphoton decoherence-free states against the collective decoherence.

Generation of four-photon polarization entangled decoherence-free states with cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Meiyu Wang, Fengli Yan, Ting Gao

Abstract We propose a theoretical protocol for preparing four-photon polarization entangled decoherence-free states, which are immune to the collective noise. With the assistance of the cross-Kerr nonlinearities, a two-photon spatial entanglement gate, two controlled-NOT gates, a four-photon polarization entanglement gate are inserted into the circuit, where X homodyne measurements are aptly applied. Combined with some swap gates and simple linear optical elements, four-photon polarization entangled decoherence-free states which can be utilized to represent two logical qubits, |0〉L and |1〉L are achieved at the output ports of the circuit. This generation scheme may be implemented with current experimental techniques.

Single logical qubit information encoding scheme with the minimal optical decoherence-free subsystem

Li Dong, Junxi Wang, Qingyang Li +4 more

We present a scheme for encoding single logical qubit information, which is immune to collective decoherence acting on Hilbert space spanned by the corresponding states. The scheme needs a spatial entanglement gate and a polarization entanglement gate, which are realized with the assistance of weak cross-Kerr nonlinear interaction between photons and coherent states via Kerr media. Under the condition of sufficient large phase shifts, single logical qubit information can be encoded into this minimal optical decoherence-free subsystem with near-unity fidelity. Together with the mature techniques of measurement and classical feed forward, simple linear optical elements are applied to complete the encoding task, which offers the feasibility of this scheme for protecting quantum information against decoherence.

Effective protocol for preparation of four-photon polarization-entangled decoherence-free states with cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Yan Xia, Mei Lu, Jie Song +2 more

We propose an effective protocol for preparation of four-photon polarization-entangled decoherence-free states with quantum nondemolition detectors. The protocol is based on optical elements, single polarization photons, and cross-Kerr nonlinearity, which are feasible with existing experimental technology. Compared with previous protocols, the present one is to replace the entangled-state resources with much simpler single-photon resources and has a higher success probability. All these advantages make this protocol more efficient and more convenient than others in the applications in quantum communication.

Procedure via cross-Kerr nonlinearities for encoding single logical qubit information onto four-photon decoherence-free states

Jino Heo, Seong Gon Choi

We propose a photonic procedure using cross-Kerr nonlinearities (XKNLs) to encode single logical qubit information onto four-photon decoherence-free states. In quantum information processing, a decoherence-free subspace can secure quantum information against collective decoherence. Therefore, we design a procedure employing nonlinear optical gates, which are composed of XKNLs, quantum bus beams, and photon-number-resolving measurements with linear optical devices, to conserve quantum information by encoding quantum information onto four-photon decoherence-free states (single logical qubit information). Based on our analysis in quantifying the affection (photon loss and dephasing) of the decoherence effect, we demonstrate the experimental condition to acquire the reliable procedure of single logical qubit information having the robustness against the decoherence effect.

Preparation of quantum information encoded on three-photon decoherence-free states via cross-Kerr nonlinearities

Jino Heo, Min-Sung Kang, Changho Hong +2 more

We present a scheme to encode quantum information (single logical qubit information) into three-photon decoherence-free states, which can conserve quantum information from collective decoherence, via nonlinearly optical gates (using cross-Kerr nonlinearities: XKNLs) and linearly optical devices. For the preparation of the decoherence-free state, the nonlinearly optical gates (multi-photon gates) consist of weak XKNLs, quantum bus (qubus) beams, and photon-number-resolving (PNR) measurement. Then, by using a linearly optical device, quantum information can be encoded on three-photon decoherence-free state prepared. Subsequently, by our analysis, we show that the nonlinearly optical gates using XKNLs, qubus beams, and PNR measurement are robust against the decoherence effect (photon loss and dephasing) in optical fibers. Consequently, our scheme can be experimentally implemented to efficiently generate three-photon decoherence-free state encoded quantum information, in practice.

Qubit-loss-free fusion of W states employing weak cross-Kerr nonlinearities

Mei-Yu Wang, Quanzhi Hao, Fengli Yan +1 more

With the assistance of weak cross-Kerr nonlinearities, we introduce an optical scheme to fuse two small-size polarization entangled W states into a large-scale W state without qubit loss, i.e.,$\mathrm{W}_{n+m}$ state can be generated from an $n$-qubit W state and a $m$-qubit W state. To complete the fusion task, two polarization entanglement processes and one spatial entanglement process are applied. The fulfillments of the above processes are contributed by a cross-Kerr nonlinear interaction between the signal photons and a coherent state via Kerr media. We analyze the resource cost and the success probability of the scheme. There is no complete failure output in our fusion mechanism, and all the garbage states are recyclable. In addition, there is no need for any controlled quantum gate and any ancillary photon, so it is simple and feasible under the current experiment technology.
