Abstract

Abstract The building blocks of the interacting boson model (IBM) are associated with both s and d bosons for positive parity states. An extension of sd −IBM along these models to spdf −IBM can provide the appropriate framework to describe negative parity states. In this paper, a solvable extended transitional Hamiltonian based on the affine SU ( 1 , 1 ) ^ Lie algebra is proposed to describe low lying positive and negative parity states between the spherical and deformed gamma-unstable shape. Quantum phase transitions (QPTs) are investigated based on dual algebraic structures for the four-level pairing model. Numerical extraction to low-lying energy levels and transition rates within the control parameters of this evaluated Hamiltonian are presented for various N values. By reproducing the experimental results, the method based on the signatures of the phase transition, such as the expectation value of the boson number operators in the lowest excited states, are used to provide a better description of Ru isotopes in this transitional region.

Alternative characterization of the spherical to axially deformed shape-phase transition in the interacting boson model

L. R. Dai, Feng Pan, L. Liu +2 more

The quantum phase transitional behavior of an alternative characterization of the spherical to axially deformed shape-phase transition in the interacting boson model is explored. Specifically, the usual SU(3) quadrupole-quadrupole interaction is replaced by an O(6) cubic interaction, and the transitional behaviors of the low-lying energy levels, eigenstates, isomer shifts, $E$2 transition rates, and expectation values of shape variables across the entire transitional region are all examined within this context. A comparison with outcomes of the usual U(5)-SU(3) transitional description shows that the spherical to axially deformed shape-phase transition can also be described within this alternative context, especially near the critical point. However, with the O(6) cubic interaction the transition is considerably smoother than for the U(5)-SU(3) case, but with the nuclear shape less well defined, even in the axially deformed limit. It is also shown that the new scheme seems better than the usual U(5)-SU(3) scheme in describing the low-lying spectrum of ${}^{152}$Sm with X(5) critical point symmetry.

Statistical analysis of the excited-state quantum phase transitions in the interacting boson model

Wen-Ting Dong, Yu Zhang, B. C. He +4 more

Abstract The spectral fluctuations and transition intensity fluctuations in the excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs) have been investigated within the framework of the interacting boson model (IBM) by adopting three statistical measures, including the nearest neighbor level spacing distribution P ( S ) measuring the chaoticity (regularity) in energy spectra, the Δ 3 ( L ) statistics of Dyson and Mehta measuring the spectral rigidity and the intensity distribution P ( y ) measuring the chaoticity (regularity) in B ( E 0) transitions. The results indicate that that the ESQPT as a function of the excitation energy may occur as a transition from regular (or semiregular) to highly chaotic if only the associated whole spectrum is chaotic, which fits most of the deformed situations in the IBM including those in the U(5)–SU(3) and SU(3)–O(6) transitional regions. Otherwise, the ESQPT will appear as a transition from regular (or semiregular) to regular such as the cases in the U(5)–O(6) transitional region or those on the ‘Alhassid–Whelan arc’, which represents a nearly regular parameter region connecting the U(5) and SU(3) limits in the IBM.

Symmetry-Reduced Variational Quantum Simulation of the $U(5)\rightarrow SU(3)$ Quantum Phase Transition in the Interacting Boson Model

Faisal Etminan

The spherical-to-deformed quantum phase transition of the Interacting Boson Model (IBM) is investigated using the variational quantum eigensolver (VQE). The $U(5)$--$SU(3)$ transitional Hamiltonian is studied with $χ=-\sqrt{7}/2$. We develop a symmetry-preserving, minimum-qubit VQE framework for collective nuclear models, achieving a substantial reduction in qubit requirements without compromising the finite-size quantum-phase-transition physics. The transition is characterized through the normalized $d$-boson occupation and ground-state energy derivatives. Finite-size results are found to approach the analytic critical point $ξ_c=8/17\simeq0.470588$, with an independent order-parameter extrapolation yielding $ξ_\infty=0.46986(61)$. The VQE reproduces ground-state energies and structural observables to numerical precision. These results demonstrate the potential of symmetry-reduced VQE for efficient quantum simulations of collective nuclear dynamics and quantum phase transitions.

Quantum phase transitions in the consistent-QHamiltonian of the interacting boson model

Feng Pan, Tao Wang, Yukun Huo +1 more

Quantum phase transitional patterns in the whole parameter space of the consistent- Q Hamiltonian in the interacting boson model are studied based on an implemented Fortran code for the numerical computation of the matrix elements in the SU (3) Draayer–Akiyama basis. Results with respect to both ground and some excited states of the model Hamiltonian are discussed. Quantum phase transitional behavior in a variety of parameter situations is shown. It is found that transitional behavior of excited states is more complicated. Pt isotopes are taken as examples in illustrating the prolate–oblate shape phase transition.

Ground-state shape phase transitions in nuclei: Thermodynamic analogy and finite- N effects

Pavel Cejnar, Stefan G. Heinze, Jan Jolie

We study quantum phase transitions between spherical, prolate, and oblate nuclear ground-state shapes using the interacting $\mathrm{sd}$-boson model $(sd$-IBM) and demonstrate the analogy between the IBM results (also results of any axially symmetric quadrupole collective model) and predictions of the Landau theory of phase transitions in classical thermodynamics. A detailed comparison of the two frameworks is performed exploiting the concept of ``specific heat,'' introduced in four alternative ways in the quantum case. All these definitions (two of them based on spectroscopic features of the ground state, the others on a randomized version of the model) lead to similar peaked forms of the ``specific heat'' at the point of the quantum phase transition. We analyze the effect of an increasing boson number on these curves and observe convergence to the singular phase-transitional behavior in the classical limit. Other observable signatures of the IBM structural phase transitions are also discussed with the aim to facilitate the location of a particular nucleus in the parameter space (extended Casten triangle) near the transitions.
