Abstract

Abstract The spectral fluctuations and transition intensity fluctuations in the excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs) have been investigated within the framework of the interacting boson model (IBM) by adopting three statistical measures, including the nearest neighbor level spacing distribution P ( S ) measuring the chaoticity (regularity) in energy spectra, the Δ 3 ( L ) statistics of Dyson and Mehta measuring the spectral rigidity and the intensity distribution P ( y ) measuring the chaoticity (regularity) in B ( E 0) transitions. The results indicate that that the ESQPT as a function of the excitation energy may occur as a transition from regular (or semiregular) to highly chaotic if only the associated whole spectrum is chaotic, which fits most of the deformed situations in the IBM including those in the U(5)–SU(3) and SU(3)–O(6) transitional regions. Otherwise, the ESQPT will appear as a transition from regular (or semiregular) to regular such as the cases in the U(5)–O(6) transitional region or those on the ‘Alhassid–Whelan arc’, which represents a nearly regular parameter region connecting the U(5) and SU(3) limits in the IBM.

Excited-state quantum phase transitions and chaos in a three-level Lipkin model

Alberto Mayorgas, Pedro Pérez-Fernández, Álvaro Sáiz +1 more

Excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs) have been extensively studied in two-level models, but their characterization remains challenging in systems displaying mixed regular and chaotic dynamics. In this work, we investigate ESQPTs within the three-level Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model, where an enlarged Hilbert space and multiple separatrices give rise to rich spectral structures strongly influenced by chaos. To investigate the different dynamical regions, we have calculated Poincaré sections and Peres lattices. In addition, by combining chaos-sensitive measures with standard ESQPT diagnostics, we provide a static analysis of ESQPT signatures in this model and establish a robust framework for future studies of its dynamical behavior. The degree of chaos and the Kullback-Leibler divergence are found to be very effective chaos-sensitive measures, which are complementary to ESQPT diagnostics such as the mean field limit and the participation ratio. Hence we provide a standard framework to work with ESQPTs in chaotic three-level systems.

Two-particle transfer intensities in excited-state quantum phase transition

Yu Zhang, Wenting Dong

Structural evolutions in the U(5)-O(6) quantum phase transition are investigated within the framework of the interacting boson model. It is found that the d-boson number occupation probabilities and particularly the monopole-pair transfer intensities can show critical behaviors not only in the ground-state quantum phase transition (GSQPT), but also in the excited-state quantum phase transition (ESQPT). It is thus suggested that the main features of the ESQPT should persist in nuclear systems.

Excited-state quantum phase transitions in nuclear system and nucleon-pair transfer intensity

Structural evolutions in the U(5)-O(6) quantum phase transition are investigated within the framework of the interacting boson model by comparing the two types of effective order parameters in the ground-state quantum phase transition and excited-state quantum phase transition. It is found that the monopole-pair transfer intensities can show critical behaviors not only in the ground-state quantum phase transition but also in the excited-state quantum phase transition. It is thus suggested that the main features of the ESQPT should persist in nuclear systems.

Degeneracy in excited-state quantum phase transitions of two-level bosonic models and its influence on system dynamics

Jamil Khalouf-Rivera, Qian Wang, Léa Ferreira dos Santos +3 more

Excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs) strongly influence the spectral properties of collective many-body quantum systems, changing degeneracy patterns in different quantum phases. Level degeneracies in turn affect the system's dynamics. We analyze the degeneracy dependence on the size of two-level boson models with a $u(n+1)$ dynamical algebra, where $n$ is the number of collective degrees of freedom. Below the ESQPT critical energy of these models, the energy gap between neighboring levels that belong to different symmetry sectors gets close to zero as the system size increases. We report and explain why this gap goes to zero exponentially for systems with one collective degree of freedom but algebraically in models with more than one degree of freedom. As a consequence, we show that the infinite-time average of out-of-time-order correlators is an ESQPT order parameter in finite systems with $n=1$, but in systems with $n>1$, this average only works as an order parameter in the mean-field limit.

Quantum phase transitions of the Cavity Heisenberg spin-chain

Lv-Ting Gong, Shao-Fan He, Fu-Quan Dou

The interplay between quantum criticality and ergodicity breaking constitutes a central challenge in complex quantum many-body systems. Here, we investigate ground-state quantum phase transitions (QPTs) and excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs), as well as ergodic-nonergodic transition in the cavity Heisenberg spin-chain (CHS) model. By combining quantum information measures with semiclassical fixed-point analysis, we identify a deformed phase that interpolates between the normal and superradiant phases, featuring a logarithmic nonanalyticity in the density of states (DoS) and two additional jump discontinuities. We further elucidate the spectral-structure mechanism underlying the connection between ESQPTs and the ergodic--nonergodic transition (ENET) via level statistics, participation ratios, and multifractal analysis. Our results provide a general framework for characterizing phase structures and spectral features in light--matter quantum many-body systems.

Excited-state quantum phase transitions in systems with two degrees of freedom. III. Interacting boson systems

Michal Macek, Pavel Stránský, A. Leviatan +1 more

The series of articles [Ann. Phys. 345, 73 (2014) and Ann. Phys. 356, 57 (2015)] devoted to excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs) in systems with $f=2$ degrees of freedom is continued by studying the interacting boson model of nuclear collective dynamics as an example of a truly many-body system. The intrinsic Hamiltonian formalism with angular momentum fixed to $L=0$ is used to produce a generic first-order ground-state quantum phase transition with an adjustable energy barrier between the competing equilibrium configurations. The associated ESQPTs are shown to result from various classical stationary points of the model Hamiltonian, whose analysis is more complex than in previous cases because of (i) a nontrivial decomposition to kinetic and potential energy terms and (ii) the boundedness of the associated classical phase space. Finite-size effects resulting from a partial separability of both degrees of freedom are analyzed. The features studied here are inherent in a great majority of interacting boson systems.
