Abstract

We analyze the nonlinear optical response of a novel five-level atomic system. A giant cross-Kerr nonlinearities that occur in such a system are shown to produce efficient photon-photon entanglement. Furthermore, the entanglement can be controllable and hence facilitates more applications in quantum information and computation.

Controllable entanglement and polarization phase gate in coupled double quantum-well structures

Wen‐Xing Yang, Ray‐Kuang Lee

By analyzing the nonlinear optical response in an asymmetric coupled double quantum well structure based on the intersubband transitions, we show that a giant Kerr nonlinearity with a relatively large cross-phase modulation coefficient can be used to produce efficient photonphoton entanglement and implement an all-optical two-qubit quantum polarization phase gate. We also demonstrate that such photon-photon entanglement is practically controllable and may facilitate more practical applications in all-optical quantum information and computation.

Three-way entanglement and three-qubit phase gate based on a coherent six-level atomic system

Chao Hang, Yun Li, Лей Ма +1 more

We analyze the nonlinear optical response of a six-level atomic system under a configuration of electromagnetically induced transparency. We show that the enhanced completely cross fifth-order nonlinearity generated in such a system can be used to produce efficient three-way entanglement and to realize a three-qubit quantum phase gate. We demonstrate that such phase gate can be transferred to an all-optical Toffoli gate, facilitating practical applications in quantum information and computation.

Giant cross-Kerr nonlinearity in a four-level Y-type atomic system

Nguyen Tuan Anh, Nguyen Huy Bang, Doai Van Le

We found the analytical expression for cross-Kerr nonlinear coefficient in a four-level Y-type atomic system. The analytical model is applied to 85Rb atoms and shown that under electromagnetically induced transparency, cross-Kerr nonlinear coefficient is enhanced by several orders of magnitude. At the same time, the amplitude and the sign of cross-Kerr nonlinear coefficient are controlled with respect to the intensity and the frequency of the coupling laser field. The analytical model can be useful to explain the experimental results and to study related effects in nonlinear optics. Full Text: PDF ReferencesC. Ottaviani, D. Vitali, M. Artoni, F. Cataliotti, P. Nonlinear Atomic-Optics and Generation of Two-Component Entangled Atom Lasers via Quantum State Transfer Technique

Xiong-Jun Liu, Hui Jing, Xin Liu +2 more

Two-component entangled atom laser is obtained via quantum state transfer technique from lights to matter waves in a five-level $M$-type system. The considered atom-atom collisions can yield an effective Kerr susceptibility for this system and lead to the self- and cross- phase modulation between the two output atom lasers. This effect results in generation of entangled states of output atom lasers. Particularly, a potential application for a quantum phase gate between two individual atom lasers can be demonstrated for the case that the input quantized probe lights are both in the single-photon state.

Decoherence-induced cross-Kerr nonlinearity for quantum entanglement

Zhicai Chen, Fei Wang

Abstract In this paper, we show that the cross-Kerr nonlinearity is induced by the ground-state decoherence in a Λ system even under the exact one- and two-photon resonance conditions, which is attributed to the fact that the dark-state resonance is broken slightly. By adiabatically eliminating the atomic variables, we find that the decoherence results in a frequency shift of cavity detuning and the two cavity fields experience cross-Kerr nonlinearity by choosing appropriate parameters. As a consequence, the internal nonlinear effects are responsible for the generation of light entanglement, which is verified by our numerical results. The present scheme demonstrates that the decoherence plays a positive role in controlling quantum entanglement, which may be useful for quantum information processing.

Large Kerr nonlinearities on cavity-atom polaritons

Yifu Zhu

I analyze a scheme that is capable of producing large Kerr nonlinearities on cavity-atom polaritons in a cavity quantum electrodynamics system consisting of multiple three-level atoms confined in a cavity mode. A weak control laser coupled to the atoms from free space induces destructive quantum interference in the polariton excitation of the coupled cavity-atom system and creates large Kerr nonlinearities on the intra-cavity light field. The scheme can be used for optical switching or cross-phase modulation of the cavity-atom polariton at ultralow light levels.
