Nonlinear Atomic-Optics and Generation of Two-Component Entangled Atom Lasers via Quantum State Transfer Technique

Abstract

Two-component entangled atom laser is obtained via quantum state transfer technique from lights to matter waves in a five-level $M$-type system. The considered atom-atom collisions can yield an effective Kerr susceptibility for this system and lead to the self- and cross- phase modulation between the two output atom lasers. This effect results in generation of entangled states of output atom lasers. Particularly, a potential application for a quantum phase gate between two individual atom lasers can be demonstrated for the case that the input quantized probe lights are both in the single-photon state.

A Scheme of Generating and Spatially Separating Two-Component Entangled Atom Lasers

Entanglement of remote atom lasers is obtained via quantum state transfer technique from lights to matter waves in a five-level $M$-type system. The considered atom-atom collisions can yield an effective Kerr susceptibility for this system and lead to the self- and cross- phase modulation between the two output atom lasers. This effect results in generation of entangled states of output fields. Particularly, under different conditions of space-dependent control fields, the entanglement of atom lasers and of atom-light fields can be obtained, respectively. Furthermore, based on the Bell-state measurement, an useful scheme is proposed to spatially separate the generated entangled atom lasers.

Technique of quantum-state transfer for a double- Λ atomic beam

Xiong-Jun Liu, Hui Jing, Xiao-Ting Zhou +1 more

We theoretically examine the quantum-state transfer process from light to a continuous atom laser by extending the original Fleischhauer-Gong scheme [M. Fleischhauer and S. Gong, 88, 070404 (2002)] to a double-$\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ atomic system. We find that the intensity of the output matter waves is controlled by the relative phase of two coherent probe lights, which may provide an interesting method for the measurement of the initial relative phase of two independent light sources.

Generation of atom-photon entangled states in atomic Bose-Einstein condensate via electromagnetically induced transparency

Le‐Man Kuang, Lan Zhou

In this paper, we present a method to generate continuous-variable-type entangled states between photons and atoms in atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). The proposed method involves an atomic BEC with three internal states, a weak quantized probe laser, and a strong classical coupling laser, which form a three-level $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-shaped BEC system. We consider a situation where the BEC is in electromagnetically induced transparency with the coupling laser being much stronger than the probe laser. In this case, the upper and intermediate levels are unpopulated, so that their adiabatic elimination enables an effective two-mode model involving only the atomic field at the lowest internal level and the quantized probe laser field. Atom-photon quantum entanglement is created through laser-atom and interatomic interactions, and two-photon detuning. We show how to generate atom-photon entangled coherent states and entangled states between photon (atom) coherent states and atom-(photon-) macroscopic quantum superposition (MQS) states, and between photon-MQS and atom-MQS states.

We analyze the nonlinear optical response of a novel five-level atomic system. A giant cross-Kerr nonlinearities that occur in such a system are shown to produce efficient photon-photon entanglement. Furthermore, the entanglement can be controllable and hence facilitates more applications in quantum information and computation.

Entanglement and four-wave mixing effects in the dissipation-free nonlinear interaction of two photons at a single atom

Holger Friedrich Hofmann, Kunihiro Kojima, Shigeki Takeuchi +1 more

We investigate the nonlinear interaction between two photons in a single-input pulse at an atomic two-level nonlinearity. A one-dimensional model for the propagation of light to and from the atom is used to describe the precise spatiotemporal coherence of the two-photon state. It is shown that the interaction generates spatiotemporal entanglement in the output state similar to the entanglement observed in parametric down-conversion. A method of generating photon pairs from coherent pump light using this quantum-mechanical four-wave mixing process is proposed.

Generation of Two-Flavor Vortex Atom Laser from a Five-State Medium

Liu, X J, Jing, H, Xiong-Jun Liu +1 more

Two-flavor atom laser in a vortex state is obtained via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) technique in a five-level $M$ type system by using two probe lights with $\\pm z$-directional orbital angular momentum $\\pm l\\hbar$, respectively. Together with the original transfer technique of quantum states from light to matter waves, the present result can be extended to generate continuous two-flavor vortex atom laser with non-classical atoms.
