Measurement of ultrafast optical pulses with two-photon interference

Y. Miyamoto, T. Kuga, M. Baba +1 more

We introduce a new two-photon interference scheme for measurement of the coherence time and pulse width of ultrafast pulses. Experiments were performed with the output pulses of a cw mode-locked dye laser, with results in good agreement with the conventional second-harmonic autocorrelation measurement.

Two-Photon Interference Measurement of Ultrafast Laser Pulses

Masaya Matsuoka, Y. Miyamoto, T. Kuga +2 more

Recently some novel two-photon interference experiments have been performed, where quantities such as the field coherence time and the beat spacing between light beams with different frequencies were measured with high time resolution1. These experiments have overcome the traditional limits on time resolution by combining a Mach-Zehnder interferometer configuration with the two-photon correlation technique. All of these experiments, however, have been performed with cw light sources, and no attempt has yet been made to measure the temporal variation of the field intensity.

Measurement of the Phonon Decoherence in Diamond Using Spectral Interference of Stokes Emission

FC. Waldermann, Joshua Nunn, Karl Surmacz +5 more

In this paper, we measure the decoherence time of phonons using spectral interference of the Stokes emission of diamond. Two 100 femtosecond laser pulses, separated by a delay tau, are sent through a polished diamond sample of 1.2 mm thickness. Optical phonons in the Brillouin zone centre are created by Raman scattering from the ultrafast laser pulses and can be heralded by the Stokes photons emitted, whose superposed spectrum is recorded by a spectrometer.
