Abstract

The physical security strategy in the wireless network with a single-antenna eavesdropper is studied. The information transmits from a single-antenna source to a single-antenna destination, and an energy-limited multi-antenna relay is employed to forward information. The antennas of the relay are divided into two groups. One group receives and forwards information, and the other converts the received signal into energy. Beamforming is used by the relay to prevent the eavesdropper from intercepting confidential information. For the purpose of maximizing the secrecy rate, antenna grouping and beamforming vectors are designed. A low complexity scheme of antenna grouping is presented. The simulation results show that the secrecy rate can be significantly improved by arranging part of the antennas for energy harvesting, and part for forwarding and optimizing the beamforming vector at the relay. The antenna grouping scheme significantly reduces the computational complexity at the cost of acceptable performance loss.

Secure Beamforming and Ergodic Secrecy Rate Analysis for Amplify-and-Forward Relay Networks With Wireless Powered Jammer

Omer Waqar, Hina Tabassum, Raviraj Adve

In this correspondence, we consider an amplify-and-forward relay network in which relayed information is overheard by an eavesdropper. In order to confound the eavesdropper, a wireless-powered jammer is also considered which harvests energy from a multiple-antenna source. We proposed a new secure beamforming scheme in which beamforming vector is a linear combination of the energy beamforming (EB) and information beamforming (IB) vectors. In particular, we present a new closed-form solution for the proposed beamforming vector which is shown to achieve a near-optimal secrecy capacity for asymptotic regime of a large number of antennas at the source. Moreover, it is also demonstrated that the proposed beamforming vector achieves significantly higher secrecy rate as compared to the trivial EB and IB vectors. A tight closed-form approximation for the ergodic secrecy rate is also derived for a large number of antennas. Finally, numerical examples and simulations are provided which validate our analytical results.

Wireless Powered Cooperative Jamming for Secrecy Multi-AF Relaying Networks

Hong Xing, Kai‐Kit Wong, Arumugam Nallanathan +1 more

This paper studies secrecy transmission with the aid of a group of wireless energy harvesting-enabled amplify-and-forward (AF) relays performing cooperative jamming (CJ) and relaying. The source node in the network does simultaneous wireless information and power transfer with each relay employing a power splitting receiver in the first phase; each relay further divides its harvested power for forwarding the received signal and generating artificial noise for jamming the eavesdroppers in the second transmission phase. In the centralized case with global channel state information (CSI), we provide the closed-form expressions for the optimal and/or suboptimal AF-relay beamforming vectors to maximize the achievable secrecy rate subject to individual power constraints of the relays, using the technique of semidefinite relaxation (SDR), which is proved to be tight. A fully distributed algorithm utilizing only local CSI at each relay is also proposed as a performance benchmark. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed multi-AF relaying with CJ over other suboptimal designs.

On Secrecy Performance for Energy-Harvesting Multi-Antenna Relaying Networks with a Dual-Use Source

Jiliang Zhang, Gaofeng Pan, Yiyuan Xie

This paper studies the secrecy performance of an energy-harvesting relaying system in the presence of a dualuse source node and an eavesdropper.Specifically, the source has dual roles in the dual-hop communication: 1) to transmit confidential information in the first hop; 2) to generate jamming signal to interfere the eavesdropper in the second hop. Moreover, the multi-antenna relay deploys a power-splitting harvesting scheme to coordinate the information receiving and energy harvesting, and adopts maximal ratio combining technique to process the multiple copies of signals.Considering decode-andforward protocol and transmit antenna selection scheme, we derive an analytical expression for secrecy outage probability, and perform Monte Carlo simulation to validate the analysis.Analytical results show that the SOP performance with the dualuse source node can be effectively improved when the relaydestination channel does not have absolute advantage over the relay-eavesdropper channel.

The achievable secrecy rate of multi-antenna AF relaying using joint transmit and receive beamforming

Meysam Mirzaee, Soroush Akhlaghi

Physical layer security has attracted a great deal of attentions in recent years. This is achieved through using the physical layer characteristics to help sender to transfer data reliably with perfect secrecy. Using multiple-antenna relay node can improve the secrecy capacity of such channel. In this paper, we study the cooperative wiretap channel in which secure data transmission is achieved with the help of a MIMO Amplify and Forward (AF) relay. In such network, it is assumed multiple eavesdroppers attempt to listen to the relay transmitted signal and try to decode the source message. We assume the relay makes use of separated transmit/receive beamforming vectors, dubbed rank-one beamforming matrix. The beamforming vectors are computed such that the achievable secrecy rate is maximized, assuming the relay is subject to a maximum transmit power constraint. Accordingly, it is shown that the problem of finding proper receive beamforming vector can be translated into a scalar optimization problem, where using that the transmit beamforming vector can be obtained through solving a Semi-Definite Programming (SDP) problem.

Joint Energy Harvesting and Jamming Design in Secure Communication of Relay Network

Ye Fan, Xuewen Liao, Zhenzhen Gao

This paper investigates the secrecy performance of amplified-and-forward (AF) relay wiretap model by using energy harvesting (EH) and signal alignment technique. All nodes equipped with multi antennas play different roles in terms of source, destination, relay, eavesdropper and jamming node. The jamming node designs artificial noise based on signal alignment principle, and then transmits it to the eavesdropper with harvested energy. Due to different power limitations, we propose power allocation schemes called Local Power Constraints scheme (LPCS) and Global Power Constraints scheme (GPCS), which maximize the secrecy rate of the system and obtain better secrecy performance when compared with the non-EH scheme and the partial nodes power allocation EH scheme. Furthermore, we also analyze the effect of the energy harvesting on the secure degrees of freedom (SDOF) in the high signal-to-noise (SNR) region, and simulate the secrecy performance with convex optimization method by proving the convexity of the optimization problem. Results show that the proposed schemes outperform the compared schemes on the secrecy performance, and achieve more secrecy rate when the destination and the relay have more antennas.

Secure Communication for Amplify-and-Forward Relay Networks With Finite Alphabet Input

Kuo Cao, Yueming Cai, Yongpeng Wu +1 more

This paper considers secure communication for amplify-and-forward (AF) relay networks with finite alphabet input. The joint optimization of power selection and beamforming design for improving the physical layer security of AF relay networks with single and multiple eavesdroppers is investigated. For the case with one eavesdropper, we transform the problem of multi-variable beamforming design into a single-variable optimization problem through semi-definite programming and solve it with one-dimensional optimization techniques. Moreover, the corresponding source power is obtained by utilizing the relation between the mutual information and minimum mean square error. Then, an iterative two-step algorithm is proposed to maximize the achievable secrecy rate. In the presence of multiple eavesdroppers, a zero-forcing beamforming scheme, where the confidential signal is nulled out in the direction of all eavesdroppers, is proposed to enhance the physical layer security. We decouple the source power and the beamforming vector by transforming the achievable secrecy rate into a single-variable function of the source power. Then, the suboptimal source power and the corresponding beamforming vector with low-complexity are derived. Numerical examples show that the proposed schemes significantly enhance the secrecy performance of the AF relay networks.
