Abstract

This paper investigates the secrecy performance of amplified-and-forward (AF) relay wiretap model by using energy harvesting (EH) and signal alignment technique. All nodes equipped with multi antennas play different roles in terms of source, destination, relay, eavesdropper and jamming node. The jamming node designs artificial noise based on signal alignment principle, and then transmits it to the eavesdropper with harvested energy. Due to different power limitations, we propose power allocation schemes called Local Power Constraints scheme (LPCS) and Global Power Constraints scheme (GPCS), which maximize the secrecy rate of the system and obtain better secrecy performance when compared with the non-EH scheme and the partial nodes power allocation EH scheme. Furthermore, we also analyze the effect of the energy harvesting on the secure degrees of freedom (SDOF) in the high signal-to-noise (SNR) region, and simulate the secrecy performance with convex optimization method by proving the convexity of the optimization problem. Results show that the proposed schemes outperform the compared schemes on the secrecy performance, and achieve more secrecy rate when the destination and the relay have more antennas.

Optimal Power Allocation for Non-Linear EH Cooperative Network with Multiple Eavesdroppers

Siyang Xu, Xin Song, Lin Xia +3 more

In this paper, the secure information transmission of an energy harvesting (EH) cooperative network is considered, in which multiple eavesdroppers can overhear the forwarded relay signal. To prevent multiple eavesdroppers from decoding confidential signals, the destination transmits the jamming signal while the source transmits the confidential signal to the relay. Simultaneously, the relay can harvest more energy from source signals and destination jamming by the power splitting (PS) protocol, which is depicted as a non-linear EH process. Considering the imperfect self-interference cancellation (SIC) at the destination, secrecy rate maximization optimization is formulated to optimize the transmission power of source and destination. However, the formulated optimization is non-convex. To solve this problem, an iterative algorithm is proposed based on the difference of convex functions (DC) programming, which can transform non-convex optimization problems into successive approximate convex problems. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has a quick convergence rate, and the proposed scheme leads to a higher achievable secrecy rate.

Harvest-and-jam: Improving security for wireless energy harvesting cooperative networks

Hong Xing, Zheng Chu, Zhiguo Ding +1 more

The emerging radio signal enabled simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), has drawn significant attention. To achieve secrecy transmission by cooperative jamming, especially in the upcoming 5G networks with self-sustainable mobile base stations (BSs) and yet not to add extra power consumption, we propose in this paper a new relay protocol, i.e., harvest-and-jam (HJ), in a relay wiretap channel with an additional set of spare helpers. Specifically, in the first transmission phase, a single-antenna transmitter (Tx) transfers signals carrying both information and energy to a multi-antenna amplify-and-forward (AF) relay and a group of multi-antenna helpers; in the second transmission phase, the AF relay processes the information and forwards it to the receiver while each of the helpers generates an artificial noise (AN), the power of which is constrained by its previously harvested energy, to interfere with the eavesdropper. By optimizing the transmit beamforming matrix for the AF relay and the covariance matrix for the AN, we maximize the secrecy rate for the receiver subject to transmit power constraints for the AF relay and all helpers. The formulated problem is shown to be non-convex, for which we propose an iterative algorithm based on alternating optimization. Finally, the performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by simulations as compared to other heuristic schemes.

Secrecy Capacity for Multi-Antenna Wireless-Powered AF Relaying Systems

Abdelhamid Salem, Leila Musavian

This paper analyzes the ergodic secrecy capacity of an energy-constrained multiple-antennas amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying system in the presence of a passive eavesdropper. In the first phase, the source broadcasts information signal, while the destination sends an artificial jamming signal. The jamming signal has two main purposes: 1) enhancing the system security; 2) increasing the energy harvesting (EH) at the relay node. In the second phase, the relay uses the harvested energy to amplify and forward the received signal to the destination. For this system model, explicit mathematical expressions for the ergodic secrecy capacity are derived for three different common EH-relaying protocols, namely, power splitting relaying (PSR), antenna selection and power splitting (ASPS) receiver, and ideal relaying receiver (IRR). Monte-Carlo simulations are included to validate the analysis and the effect of different parameters on the system security are investigated. The results show that, the ASPS receiver outperforms PSR in terms of secrecy capacity.

Secrecy-enhancing design for two-way energy harvesting cooperative networks with full-duplex relay jamming

Siyang Xu, Xin Song, Yiming Gao +3 more

To guarantee secure information transmission within two sources, a full-duplex (FD) relay jamming scheme for two-way energy harvesting (EH) cooperative networks is proposed, in which the relay can achieve simultaneous information reception and jamming transmission. The EH relay node scavenges energy from two source signals, and then, uses the harvested energy for information relaying and jamming transmission by the power splitting (PS) protocol. Considering multiple eavesdroppers, the non-convex optimization for maximizing the smaller bidirectional secrecy rates is formulated by jointly optimizing the power allocation and PS factor. Furthermore, an iterative algorithm based on successive convex approximation and alternate search method is proposed to solve this non-convexity. Simulation results verify the proposed iterative algorithm and show that the proposed jamming scheme can achieve substantial performance gain than other conventional schemes.

Robust MIMO Harvest-and-Jam Helpers and Relaying for Secret Communications.

Hong Xing, Kai‐Kit Wong, Zheng Chu +1 more

Cooperative jamming has been demonstrated to be an effective means to provide secret wireless communications and yet this is realized at the expense of the power consumption of the friendly jammers. This paper considers the scenario where friendly jammers harvest energy wirelessly from the signal transmitted by the source, and then use only the harvested energy to transmit the jamming signals for improving the secrecy of the communications of the source to the destination. In particular, we investigate the use of multi-antenna harvest-and-jam (HJ) helpers in a multi-antenna amplify-and-forward (AF) relay wiretap channel assuming that the direct link between the source and destination is broken. Our goal is to maximize the achievable secrecy rate at the destination subject to the transmit power constraints of the AF relay and HJ helpers. In the case of perfect channel state information (CSI), the joint optimization of the artificial noise (AN) covariance for jamming and the AF beamforming matrix is presented as well as a suboptimal solution with lower complexity based on semidefinite relaxation (SDR) which is tight in this case. For the practical case where the CSI is imperfect at both the relay and the HJ helpers, we provide the formulation of the robust optimization for maximizing the worst-case secrecy rate. Using SDR techniques, a near-optimal robust scheme is proposed. Numerical results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the HJ protocol.

Physical Layer Secrecy by Power Splitting and Jamming in Cooperative Multiple Relay Based on Energy Harvesting in Full-Duplex Network

Nabila Sehito, Shouyi Yang, Esraa Mousa Ali +7 more

In this article, we investigated the secrecy performance of a three-hop relay network system with Power Splitting (PS) and Energy Harvesting (EH). In the presence of one eavesdropper, a signal is transferred from source to destination with the help of a relay. The source signal transmits in full-duplex (FD) mood, jamming the relay transfer signals to the destination. The relay and source employ Time Switching (TS) and Energy Harvesting (EH) techniques to obtain the power from the power beacon. In this study, we compared the Secrecy Rate of two Cooperative Schemes, Amplify and Forward (AF) and Decode and Forward (DF), for both designed systems with the established EH and PS system. The Secrecy Rate was improved by 50.5% in the AF scheme and by 44.2% in the DF scheme between the relay and eavesdropper at 40 m apart for the proposed system in EH and PS. This simulation was performed using the Monto Carlo method in MATLAB.
