Abstract

The traditional quantum key distribution protocol was combined with the entanglement of the entangled photon pairs, and an improved BB84 protocol, the entangled photon pairs-based BB84 protocol, was put forward. In order to examine the feasibility of the improved protocol, the paper simulated its validity and security by using the quantum computation language (QCL).And the effect of channel attenuation on the protocol was taken into account. The result of the simulation shows that: in an ideal way, the efficiency of QKD is 14/30 in the security, which is nearly to the theoretical value 50%; if there is listener-in, the efficiency of QKD is only 5/30, which is much less than the 50%.Because of the channel fading, the actual efficiency of QKD is much less than the theoretical value. It is concluded that: entangled photon pairs-based BB84 protocol is an utterly secure and feasible quantum key distribution protocol; people should do the best to reduce the fading of the channel so that the efficiency of QKD could be raised. The application of the protocol is prospected in the end of the paper.

Simulating the BB84 Protocol

Kirti Kushwah, Akanksha Akanksha, Aniket Varshney +2 more

Abstract: Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a cryptographic technique that allows two parties to establish a secure communication channel by using the laws of quantum mechanics. The BB84 protocol is one of the earliest and most widely used QKD protocols that uses the properties of quantum entanglement and superposition to securely exchange cryptographic keys[3] . In this paper, we provide a detailed overview of the BB84 protocol and its implementation. We also discuss the security aspects of the protocol and its vulnerabilities. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of the future prospects and challenges in the field of quantum cryptography

Analysis of the Performance about Actual Quantum Key Distribution System Based on BB84 Protocol

Kai-guo Huang

Analyzed how did the fiber length, the attenuation and the average photon number of the pulse emitted by the single photon source affect the receive efficiency in the fiber channel quantum key distribution system based on the BB84 protocol.A theoretic model relative to the system was represented. It was shown by the emulation that the more average photon number was, the higher efficiency receiver would be, and the final key rate would be higher.

Quantum Key Distribution with Entangled Photons and Error Correction

Jincheng Zhang

This paper investigates a novel approach to quantum key distribution (QKD) leveraging the unique properties of entangled photons and incorporating robust quantum error correction (QEC) techniques. The core claim is that a QKD system employing entangled photons, coupled with advanced error correction, offers provably secure communication. The proposed system builds upon the foundational BB84 protocol, utilizing entangled photon pairs to establish a shared key. However, unlike traditional BB84, it addresses the inherent challenges posed by photon loss and detector imperfections through the implementation of a tailored quantum error correction code. The analysis presented demonstrates the effectiveness of this combined approach in significantly enhancing the key rate and overall security of the QKD system. The paper details the mathematical framework, including the BB84 protocol formulation, the characteristics of entangled photon pairs, and the specific QEC code utilized. The primary goal is to provide a rigorous theoretical foundation for a secure and practical QKD system, addressing a critical need in the field of quantum cryptography.

The Improvement of QKD Scheme Based on BB84 Protocol

Huifang Li, Li-Xin Zhu, Kai Wang +1 more

In order to solve the low key distribution efficiency problem of the BB84 protocol, an improved BB84 quantum key distribution scheme is presented in this paper. Firstly the same polarization basis is used by the sender and the receiver with the consistent agreement. This process could make quantum key distribution rate higher. Then signature combined with the error correction method based on the odd and even parity is used to ensure the safety of the transmission. The analyses results indicate that the advantage of the improved scheme lies in that the all photons sent to Bob by Alice are useful. It can not only reduce the time extracting the original key, but also solve the authentication problem in the process of communication. The key distribution efficiency is two times of the original BB84 protocol improved scheme.

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) for Symmetric Key Transfer

Asoke Nath, Shreya Maity, Soham Banerjee +1 more

Classical cryptographic systems are increasingly challenged by advances in computing power and new algorithmic techniques, particularly with the rise of quantum computing, which threatens the security of current encryption methods. This has spurred interest in quantum-resistant cryptography, aimed at creating algorithms that can withstand attacks from quantum computers. Traditionally, secure key transport over alternate channels has been a significant challenge, but quantum mechanics offers a solution. Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a revolutionary method for secure communication that leverages quantum principles. Unlike traditional methods, QKD provides unconditional security, with key security ensured by the laws of physics rather than computational difficulty. The BB84 protocol, introduced in 1984 by Bennett and Brassard, is a leading QKD scheme known for its simplicity and effectiveness in generating eavesdropping-resistant cryptographic keys. It facilitates secure key transport over alternate channels. This documentation aims to advance QKD security by practically implementing and analyzing the BB84 protocol. Through detailed theoretical analysis, simulation studies, and experimental validation, the practical impacts, and limitations of BB84-based QKD systems are examined. Additionally, a practical implementation of quantum key distribution using a sudoku key demonstrates the process's simplicity and effectiveness. These findings are expected to pave new paths in the field of cryptanalysis in the emerging Quantum Age.
