The influence of relaxation course on AC-Zeeman(Stark) level shift of atom

Abstract

Based on the theory of decay Bloch equation, the AC Zeeman(Stark) level shifts of two level atom are calculated. The calculated results indicate that the longitudinal and transverse relaxation courses can influence the level shift of atom. Level shifts of atom display different change trend respectively with the changes of longitudinal and transverse rates. Relative intensity of two relaxation courses can influence directly the dispersion property and saturation property.

AC Stark Effect of Two-Level Atom under theInteraction of Quantized Field

Xin Ai-tang

WT5BZ]AC-Stark level shifts of two-level atom are calculated when quantized field in number state interacts with atom. The timeaveraged level shifts display the dispersion shape with the change of frequency of field mode and can reach saturation with the increase of photon number in field mode. In addition, it is also found that quantized field can still shift atomic level even if the photon number in field equals zero. [WT5HZ]

Influence of ac Stark shifts on the propagation of phase-controlled lasers in a two-level medium

Takashi Nakajima

We investigate the influence of ac Stark shifts on the propagation of phase-controlled two-color lasers in a two-level medium. By solving the coupled partial differential equations for atoms and fields simultaneously, it is found that the propagation dynamics are significantly modified due to the time-dependent ac Stark shifts.

Ac Stark shifts in a two-zone Raman interaction

Philip Hemmer, M. S. Shahriar, V. D. Natoli +1 more

We have measured the ac Stark effect in a two-zone stimulated Raman interaction in a sodium atomic beam. In addition, we have derived simple theoretical expressions for the ac Stark shift, based on a closed three-level system, in the Λ configuration, and have achieved qualitative agreement with the data. In particular, the magnitude and sense of the ac Stark shifts are found to depend on laser intensities as well as on the initial populations of the two low-lying levels of the Λ configuration. Specifically, the observed ac Stark shifts are smaller for larger laser intensities and also for smaller initial population differences between the two low-lying levels. The ac Stark effect must be considered for many potential applications of the Raman effect, such as a Raman clock. In this connection, we have identified conditions for the reduction of the ac Stark shift in our sodium Raman clock.

ac Stark shifts for cesium and their effect on ionization line shapes

Michael Stuart Pindzola, Alan H. Glasser, M. G. Payne

The influence of ac Stark shifts on the three-photon ionization of cesium in a moderate-intensity laser beam is investigated. The ionization process involves a two-photon resonance with the $8d$ fine-structure levels. The work consists of two related parts. In the first part, atomic parameters, such as the two-photon Rabi rate and the ac Stark shift, are calculated in the nonrelativistic Hartree-Fock approximation. In the second part, the atomic parameters thus obtained are used as coefficients in a system of coupled differential equations representing the time evolution of the density matrix. Ionization line shapes are generated for a transform-limited pulsed laser of moderate intensity with a single-mode transverse structure. As the time history of the intensity profile is varied from square to smooth, the ionization line shape becomes asymmetric due to the time dependence of the ac Stark shift. The effects of varying the spatial intensity distribution of the laser light to include transverse centering and longitudinal focusing are also studied.

Influences of ac Stark shifts on coherent population trapping in the atom-field coupling system via Raman two-photon processes

Gao‐xiang Li, Jin-sheng Peng

By means of adiabatically eliminating the upper level or levels of a \ensuremath{\Lambda}-configuration atom coupling to a two-mode quantized field, we have studied the influences of ac Stark shifts on the atomic coherent population trapping in two important atom-field coupling systems via nondegenerate Raman two-photon processes. The states of the field that trap the atom in its two nondegenerate lower levels are obtained, and the important roles of ac Stark shifts and properties of the atomic upper level or levels in the states of the trapping field in two Raman-coupling systems are also analyzed.
