Abstract

In order to study the quantum communication signaling system and realize quantum communication between multiple users,a kind of differential phase encoding scheme for the polarization state of quantum signaling is proposed, and details of the encoding process are described. The sender uses polarization states of different photons to represent different signalings, and then implements phase modulation for the photons and encodes the quantum signaling based on the phase difference between the impulses before and affter encoding. In order to complete the decoding, two optical pulses occur interference at the beam splitter. The signal 0 or 1 can be detected by different detectors according to their phase difference.According to the Gaussian pulse distribution, quantitative relationship amongthe quantum bit error rate caused by the pulse delay to differential phase of encoding system, pulse width and delay time in photonic transmission process are enduced.Besides, quantum bit error rate of single-photon pulsesdistribution of Gaussian is calculated in determined timing jitter. Finally, quantum signaling encoded efficiency and bit error rate are analyzed and simulated. The results show that the encoded efficiency of proposed coding scheme can reach 75% that can satisfy the needs of quantum mobile communication.

Quantum bit error rate analysis of quantum key distribution via single-photon two-qubit states

Zihang Zhu

The hybrid modulation quantum key distribution(QKD) via single-photon two-qubit states scheme is analyzed, and an improvement scheme is proposed. The input-output model of polarization is established. And the influence of the interferometers on the polarization coding is analyzed.Quantum bit error rate(QBER) of polarization coding caused by the phasic error of fast and slow axes and the alignment error between the basis vectors of polarization and polarization axis is simulated.Furthermore, the stability conditions of polarization are derived on this basis. The QBER of polarization coding can be influenced deeply by the fiber M-Z interferometers. The theoretic analysis reveals that the jitter of polarization state is not only derived from the birefringency, but also derived from coordinate system difference between incident light and fast and slow axes in fiber interferometer. Some necessary conditoins for the QKD via single-photon two-qubit states are given. The simulation show that when ρ and θ are both below 0.2 rad,the polarization QBER is less than 0.015.When ρ and θ are both below 0.4 rad,the polarization QBER is less than 0.06.The polarization QBER of 2%-5% in two-qubit QKD scheme could be accepted as far as the safety upper limit of QBER(11%) is concerned.

Differential Phase Encoding Scheme for Measurement-Device-Independent Quantum Key Distribution

Shashank Kumar Ranu, Anil Prabhakar, Prabha Mandayam

This paper proposes a measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) scheme based on differential phase encoding. The differential phase shift MDI-QKD (DPS-MDI-QKD) couples the advantages of DPS-QKD with that of MDI-QKD. The proposed scheme offers resistance against photon number splitting attack and phase fluctuations as well as immunity against detector side-channel vulnerabilities. The design proposed in this paper uses weak coherent pulses in a superposition of three orthogonal states, corresponding to one of three distinct paths in a delay-line interferometer. The classical bit information is encoded in the phase difference between pulses traversing successive paths. This 3-pulse superposition offers enhanced security compared to using a train of pulses by decreasing the learning rate of an eavesdropper and unmasking her presence with an increased error rate upon application of intercept and resend attack and beamsplitter attack. The proposed scheme employs phase locking of the sources of the two trusted parties so as to maintain the coherence between their optical signal, and uses a beamsplitter (BS) at the untrusted node (Charlie) to extract the key information from the phase encoded signals.

Method on multi-dimensional modulation in inter-satellite quantum communication

Yu Zhu, Lei Shi, Jiahua Wei +3 more

A multi-dimensional modulation scheme in inter-satellite quantum communication based on pulse position modulation and polarization encoding is put forward and designed. By this way we can send additional classical signal simultaneously when transmitting quantum signal. The basic principle of multi-dimensional modulation scheme is introduced. Simulation experiment is performed using Optisystem and Matlab simultaneously. The binary sequence before modulation and that after demodulation are compared and analyzed. The error bit rate, eye diagram and quality factor of classical optical date are obtained. Stabilities of classical optical signal during the transmission are tested. The results show that this multi-dimensional modulation scheme can decrease the numbers of information channels needed, increase information transmission efficiency and reduce the demands for power load systematic complexity in communication terminals. The proposed coexistence system is confirmed to be effective and applicable.

Differential phase-shift quantum key distribution

Kyo Inoue, Edo Waks A, Y. Yamamoto

This paper presents novel quantum key distribution (QKD) schemes that use differential phases of sequential pulses as an information carrier. Alice sends a photon in a linear superposition state of three temporal slots, in which each amplitude is phase-modulated by {0,π}. Bob measures the phase difference of an asymmetric interferometer, and tells Alice time-instance at which the photon was counted. From this time information and her modulation data, Alice knows which detector counted the photon in Bob s site. Then, the two parties create a secret key. The scheme is suitable for fiber transmission systems and offers key creation efficiency higher than conventional phase-encoding QKD. The above scheme utilizes fully non-orthogonal four states. Differential phase shift QKD utilizing two non-orthogonal states is also presented. Alice sends a coherent pulse train with less than one photon per pulse, which is phase modulated by {0,π} for each pulse, and Bob measures the pulse train by a one-bit delay circuit. The system has a simple configuration such that Alice has no interferometer and sends no intense reference pulse, unlike to conventional QKD scheme using two non-orthogonal states, and also has an advantage of high key creation efficiency.

Efficient and stable QKD scheme based on differential phase shift and polarization coding

Haisong Jiao, Tao Pu, Yanbo Wang

We propose an improved scheme of hybrid quantum key distribution based on the combination of differential phase shift and BB84 polarization encoding. By adjusting the polarization properly and routing all the probability amplitudes to interfere, a higher protocol efficiency of 3/2 is obtained. A better stability can be achieved with the birefringence effects and polarization-dependent losses at the transmitter compensated automatically by employing Faraday mirrors and quantum bit error rate can be smaller by reducing single photon detectors with fewer time slots introducing dark counts. Moreover, the condition for stable interference at the receiver is provided and the security performance is demonstrated, specifically.

Study on quantum key distribution between different media

Zhou Fei, Hai-Lin Yong, Dongdong Li +3 more

This paper mainly solves the photon polarization encoding problem of quantum key distribution (QKD) between different media. The influence of the transmission rate of different photon component on quantum bit error rate (QBER) has been quantitatively analyzed, with a practical analysis of QBER of QKD between air and water. Furthermore, we have put forward a single-photon compensation scheme for eliminating such non-ideal BB84 protocol, as well as a more robust and practical dual-photon encoding scheme to offset such interfacial non-unitary noise. This takes an important step towards the air-sea-ground wide area quantum communication in the future.
