Abstract

The optical field in multilayers dielectrics is quantized by the method of Green's function and the canonical quantum theory, the power spectrum of quantum fluctuation is obtained in each region. Then, the effect of the absorptive and dispersive characters of dielectrics on the quantum fluctuation of the optical field, the systematic work state and frequency characters are investigated by the numerical calculation.

Correlation of radiation-field ground-state fluctuations in a dispersive and lossy dielectric

Toralf Gruner, D.‐G. Welsch

The correlation of the quantum-mechanical ground-state fluctuations of the electric-field strength in a dispersive and lossy linear dielectric are studied in terms of the symmetrized autocorrelation function, with special emphasis on the optical frequency domain. Starting from the canonical quantization scheme developed by Huttner and Barnett [Phys. Rev. A 46, 4306 (1992)], the analysis is based on a quantization of the phenomenological Maxwell theory, the effect of the medium being described by a frequency-dependent complex permittivity. In this way, the spectrally resolved ground-state autocorrelation function of the electric-field strength can be expressed in terms of the real and imaginary parts of the refractive index. Both analytical and numerical results are presented and the effects of dispersion and absorption including their dependence on the frequency interval chosen are discussed. A comparison with the vacuum fluctuations in free space is given.

Quantum optical input--output relations for dispersive and lossy multi-slab dielectric plates

Toralf Gruner, D.‐G. Welsch

Using the Green function approach to the problem of quantization of the phenomenological Maxwell theory, the propagation of quantized radiation through dispersive and absorptive multilayer dielectric plates is studied. Input--output relations are derived, with special emphasis on the determination of the quantum noise generators associated with the absorption of radiation inside the dielectric matter. The input--output relations are used to express arbitrary correlation functions of the outgoing field in terms of correlation functions of the incoming field and those of the noise generators. To illustrate the theory, the effect of a single-slab plate on the mean photon-number densities in the frequency domain is discussed in more detail.

Cui Yuan

The influence of the plasma loading on the quantum character of the absorbing and dispersive cavity is investigated. The results show that the loading changes the power spectrum distributions of the vacuum field fluctuations in the system, and the working states of the cavity are related with light frequancy closly.

The Photic Field Quantization in Plane Divisional Uniform Absorbing and Dispersive Dielectrics

Yin Xiao

The photic field in the plane divisional uniform absorbing and dispersive dielectrics is quantized by the canonical quantum theory and the classical Green's function of the system. The concrete forms of the leftwards\|traveling and rightwards\|traveling polariton and photon operators in the dielectrics and the cavity are determined by use of the identical idea of the contrast with the homogeneous media and the vacuum case, and the quantized expressions of light field in every region are given. Results show that the polariton and the photon operators can be expressed by the forms of the media noise along the propagation with phase weight, and they are closely related to the media distribution, parameters and the light frequency.

Quantization of electromagnetic field in quadratic continuous nonlinear absorptive dielectrics

Wei Li, Liu Shi-bing, Yu Cheng-Xin +1 more

This paper reports that in the quantization of electromagnetic field in the dielectrics, the wave equation with regard to the Green function is analytically solved by a direct integral method for a quadratic continuous nonlinear absorptive dielectric medium. The quantization of the electromagnetic field in such a nonlinear absorptive dielectric is carried out for which the material dielectric function is assumed as a separable variable about the frequency and the space coordinate. The vacuum field fluctuations for different spatial continuous variations of dielectric function are numerically calculated, which shows that the present result is self-consistent.
