Abstract

According to the double-Λ dark-state polarons, quantum information can be exchanged not only between the two-signal fields and the collective atoms, but also between the two signal fields. Some two-mode quantum states, including some entangled states, can be stored in the double-Λ atomic process, thus quantum information of the two-signal field can be written and read in the medium.Furthermore,an experimental scheme for storing the two-mode quantum states is given.

Manipulating Some Entangled States in the Three-Λ Atomic Medium

Zhuan Li

Based on the three-Λ dark-state polaritons, quantum information can be exchanged not only between the three-signal fields and the collective atoms, but also among the three signal fields. Some three-mode quantum states can be stored in the three-Λ atomic ensemble, thus the quantum information of the three-signal field can be written and read in the medium.Furthermore, with this scheme some tripartite entangled states can be generated, stored, retrieved, transformed and so on,thus the ability of the manipulation of entangled states is improved.

Darkness of two-mode squeezed light in Λ-type atomic system

E. S. Moiseev, Arina Tashchilina, Sergey A. Moiseev +1 more

Abstract We show that, under certain circumstances, an optical field in a two-mode squeezed vacuum (TMSV) state can propagate through a lossy atomic medium without degradation or evolution. Moreover, the losses give rise to that state when a different state is initially injected into the medium. Such a situation emerges in a Λ-type atomic system, in which both optical transitions are driven by strong laser fields that are two-photon resonant with the respective signal modes. Then the interactions of the two signal modes with the ground-state atomic coherence interfere destructively, thereby ensuring the preservation of the TMSV with a particular squeezing parameter. This mechanism permits unified interpretation of recent experimental results and predicts new phenomena.

Optical storage in quantized media

Gagik P. Djotyan, N. Sandor, Jozsef S. Bakos +1 more

The schemes of storing of images in quantum states of atoms being used nowadays are based on electromagnetically induced transparency. The images are stored in the collective atomic coherence with the storage time limited by different relaxation processes in the system with the transverse relaxation being the most detrimental among them. In this communication, we present a method of coherent writing of optical information (a transverse image) into the populations instead of the coherences of the metastable atomic states. The method is based on an action of a sequence of frequency chirped laser pulses on an atom with lambda-structure of working levels. Such storage results in drastic increase of the storage time. The reading out of the stored information is performed by measuring the population of one of the metastable atomic states.

Storing Quantum Information via Atomic Dark Resonances

Filippo Caruso

In this thesis, after a brief review of some concepts of Quantum Optics, we analyze a three-level atomic system in the conditions of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), and we investigate the propagation of a gaussian pulse along a cigar-shaped cloud of both cold and hot atoms in EIT regime. In particular, we show that it is possible to amplify a slow propagating pulse without population inversion. We also analyze the regime of anomalous light propagation showing that it is possible to observe superluminal energy propagation. In these conditions, it is possible to imprint reversibly ('write') the information carried by the photons onto the atoms, specifically as a coherent pattern of atomic spins, and later the information stored in the atomic spins can be transferred back ('read') to the light field, implementing in this way a quantum memory. Besides, we analyze the propagation of a quantum field in an EIT medium sustaining dark state polaritons (DSP) in a quasi-particle picture. Here, the decoherence effects in this quantum memory for photons, by analyzing the fidelity of the quantum state transfer, and the emergence of parastatistics in the quasi-particle picture in gain medium are discussed. Finally, we introduce a polarization quantum memory for photons by using a tripod atomic configuration in which two ideal EIT windows appear and the two DSPs, scattering each other, show a solitonic behavior.

Quantum storage and cloning of light states in EIT-like medium

A. P. Alodjants, Sergei M Arakelyan

In the paper we consider a new approach for storage and cloning of quantum information by three level atomic (molecular) systems in the presence of the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) effect. For that, the various schemes of transformation into the bright and dark polaritons for quantum states of optical field in the medium are proposed. Physical conditions of realization of quantum nondemolition (QND) storage of quantum optical state are formulated for the first time. We have shown that the best storage and cloning of can be achieved with the atomic ensemble in the Bose-Einstein condensation state. We discuss stimulated Raman two-color photoassociation for experimental realization of the schemes under consideration.
