Manipulating Some Entangled States in the Three-Λ Atomic Medium

Abstract

Based on the three-Λ dark-state polaritons, quantum information can be exchanged not only between the three-signal fields and the collective atoms, but also among the three signal fields. Some three-mode quantum states can be stored in the three-Λ atomic ensemble, thus the quantum information of the three-signal field can be written and read in the medium.Furthermore, with this scheme some tripartite entangled states can be generated, stored, retrieved, transformed and so on,thus the ability of the manipulation of entangled states is improved.

Storage of Two-mode Quantum State in Atomic Medium

Zhuan Li

According to the double-Λ dark-state polarons, quantum information can be exchanged not only between the two-signal fields and the collective atoms, but also between the two signal fields. Some two-mode quantum states, including some entangled states, can be stored in the double-Λ atomic process, thus quantum information of the two-signal field can be written and read in the medium.Furthermore,an experimental scheme for storing the two-mode quantum states is given.

Theory of Light - Atomic Ensemble Interactions: Entanglement, Storage, and Retrieval

S. D. Jenkins

In this thesis, we explore the quantum dynamics of light interactions with optically thick collections of atoms. We provide a theoretical description of several recent experiments in which some key operations necessary for the implementation of quantum communication networks are demonstrated. Collective Raman scattering from an atomic ensemble is shown to produce probabilistic entanglement between the polarization of a scattered photon and an associated collective atomic excitation. The predicted correlations agree with experimental observations. We also propose a method to use cascade transitions to produce entanglement between a photon with a frequency in the telecom range (ideal for transmission over optical fibers) and a near infrared photon (ideal for storage in an atomic ensemble), and a description of the experimental demonstration is provided. We also propose and describe the implementation of a deterministic source of single photons.\n\nIn addition, we generalize the theory of dark-state polaritons in ensembles of three level Lambda atoms to account for the nuclear spin degeneracy of alkali atoms. This generalized theory provides a description of the first demonstration of single photon storage and retrieval from atomic ensembles. Additionally, in the presence of a uniform magnetic field, we predict the occurrence of collapses and revivals of the photon retrieval efficiency as a function of storage time within the ensemble. These predictions are in very good agreement with subsequent experimental observations. We also exploit the ability of photon storage to entangle remote atomic qubits.

Theory of dark-state polariton collapses and revivals

S. D. Jenkins, Dzmitry Matsukevich, T. Chanelière +2 more

We investigate the dynamics of dark-state polaritons in an atomic ensemble with ground-state degeneracy. A signal light pulse may be stored and retrieved from the atomic sample by adiabatic variation of the amplitude of a control field. During the storage process, a magnetic field causes rotation of the atomic hyperfine coherences, leading to collapses and revivals of the dark-state polariton number. These collapses and revivals should be observable in measurements of the retrieved signal field, as a function of storage time and magnetic field orientation.

QUANTUM STORAGE AND CLONING OF LIGHT STATES IN EIT-LIKE MEDIUM

A. P. ALODJANTS, S. M. ARAKELIAN

In the paper we consider a new approach for storage and cloning of quantum information by three level atomic (molecular) systems in the presence of the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) effect. For that, the various schemes of transformation into the bright and dark polaritons for quantum states of optical field in the medium are proposed. Physical conditions of realization of quantum nondemolition (QND) storage of quantum optical state are formulated for the first time. We have shown that the best storage and cloning of can be achieved with the atomic ensemble in the Bose-Einstein condensation state. We discuss stimulated Raman two-color photoassociation for experimental realization of the schemes under consideration.

Manipulation and storage of optical field and atomic ensemble quantum states

Aurélien Dantan, Alberto Bramati, M. Pinard +1 more

We study how to efficiently manipulate and store quantum information between optical fields and atomic ensembles. We show how various non-dissipative transfer schemes can be used to transfer and store quantum states such as squeezed vacuum states or entangled states into the long-lived ground state spins of atomic ensembles.
