Abstract

In this paper,0 / π-phase-shifted SSFBG( 0 / π-SSFBG) and the ± π /2-phase-shifter SSFBG( ± π/2-SSFBG) are used to encode the optical pulse signal. A comparison is made of the security performance of the 0 / π-SSFBG and the ± π /2-SSFBG. We evaluate the security performance by the investigation of the encoded waveforms of both encoders. The existence of dips in the waveform encoded by 0 / π-SSFBG allows eavesdroppers to extract code sequence straightforwardly. Nevertheless, the ± π /2 SSFBG based encoder improves the security by concealing the code information in the encoded waveform.

Security Improvement Using $\pm\pi/2$-Phase-Shifted SSFBG En/Decoder in Time-Spreading OCDMA

Bo Dai, Xu Wang

The existence of dips in the waveform encoded by 0/π-phase-shifted superstructured fiber Bragg grating (0/π -SSFBG) allows eavesdroppers to extract code sequence straightforwardly. In this letter, the code extraction technique for 0/π-SSFBG is summarized and demonstrated. To address this security issue, we propose using ±π/2-phase-shifted ±π/2-SSFBG as encoder/decoder to improve security in time-spreading optical code-division multiple-access. The security and coding performances for both ±π/2-SSFBG and 0/π-SSFBG are compared; ±π/2-SSFBG exhibits improved security and better coding performance. The influence of input pulse over the security performance for ±π/2 -SSFBG is discussed. Short input pulse can improve the security of the encoded signal.

Experimental demonstration of ±π/2-phase-shifted SSFBG encoder for security improvement in time-spreading OCDMA

We experimentally demonstrate the security improvement using ±π/2-phase-shifted SSFBG encoder in time-spreading OCDMA. Compared with conventional 0/π-phase-shifted SSFBG encoder, ±π/2-phase-shifted SSFBG encoder conceals code pattern well in the encoded waveform. We also investigate the influence of input pulse and the experimental measurement matches the calculated result very well.

±π/2-Phase-shift spectral phase encoding for security improvement in the optical code based system

Ali Zahid, Bo Dai, Yao Chen +4 more

A novel spectral phase encoding scheme by using ±π/2 phase shift in the en/decoding is proposed. The scheme can submerge the code information in the encoded signals well, improving the security against code extraction from the encoded signals. Furthermore, based on the theoretical analysis, the coding performance of the proposed scheme is guaranteed.

Stealth transmission of 127-chip SSFBG EPS-TPE/D OOK-OCDM secure signal over a public 2-wavelength WDM network

Yinfang Chen, Rong Wang, Tao Fang +5 more

A semi-physical simulation was proposed on stealth transmission of 10Gbps 127-chip superstructure fiber Bragg grating (SSFBG) based equivalent phase shift (EPS) temporal phase encoded/decoded (TPE/D) on-off keyed (OOK) optical-code-division multiplexing (OCDM) secure signal over a 2-wavelength 10Gbps wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) public network. Secure signal can be error-free transmitted beneath the noise floor of 2-wavelength public WDM network both in temporal and frequency domain. The decoding performance of secure signal was highly affected by wavelength space between public and stealth channel. The power penalty of each WDM channel was less than 0.1dB due to existence of secure signal.
