A scheme of long-distance quantum communication system based on entangled photon pairs is presented, which utilize entanglement as its essential resource. This entanglement enables phenomena such as quantum teleportation and perfectly secure quantum communication. The quantum repeater extends the length of the entangled photon pairs with high fidelity, the entanglement of photons between sender and receiver is built by entanglement swapping and entanglement purification. The quantum information is transferred by the principle of quantum teleportation.Performance analysis results show that the throughput quantum communication system of increases greatly with higher probabilities with which entanglement is built between sender's photons and receiver's photons. The transmitting distance of the quantum signal was determined by the series of the quantum repeater nodes.
A quantum communication model based on stratospheric platforms is suggested, which may be called stratospheric quantum communication. Assuming the quantum optical signal in the proposed communication model to be entangled photon pairs, the transmission characteristic of photons in such a model is investigated. Especially, the link attenuation of the quantum channel and the feasibility of stratospheric quantum communication are analyzed in detail. Results show that a worldwide quantum communication network based on the stratospheric platform is possible.
This paper proposes and analyzes the potential of a multi-photon tolerant quantum communication protocol to secure satellite communication. For securing satellite communication, quantum cryptography is the only known unconditionally secure method. A number of recent experiments have shown feasibility of satellite-aided global quantum key distribution (QKD) using different methods such as: Use of entangled photon pairs, decoy state methods, and entanglement swapping. The use of single photon in these methods restricts the distance and speed over which quantum cryptography can be applied. Contemporary quantum cryptography protocols like the BB84 and its variants suffer from the limitation of reaching the distances of only Low Earth Orbit (LEO) at the data rates of few kilobits per second. This makes it impossible to develop a general satellite-based secure global communication network using the existing protocols. The method proposed in this paper allows secure communication at the heights of the Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites. The benefits of the proposed method are two-fold: First it enables the realization of a secure global communication network based on satellites and second it provides unconditional security for satellite networks at GEO heights. The multi-photon approach discussed in this paper ameliorates the distance and speed issues associated with quantum cryptography through the use of contemporary laser communication (lasercom) devices. This approach can be seen as a step ahead towards global quantum communication.
In order to construct global quantum communication networks, we proposed the model of quantum satellite communications based on the distribution of entangled three-photon pairs. The entangled three-photon pairs are distributed to quantum ground stations, users, and satellites by an entangled photons preparation center. By performing a Bell-state measurement, the quantum communication links between different users is established first. The scheme of quantum repeating satellite based on the model is discussed and user splicing signaling process is presented then. The throughput of the system is analyzed. Simulation results show that the throughput of the system can help us to achieve long-distance quantum communications. Therefore, it can be used to build a global quantum communication network.
As satellite communications continue to be an integral part of global infrastructure, they face escalating cybersecurity threats and bandwidth limitations. Traditional cryptographic methods are increasingly vulnerable due to advancements in quantum computing. Quantum teleportation, leveraging quantum entanglement and quantum key distribution, offers a transformative approach to secure satellite communications. This paper lays out the foundational principles of quantum entanglement and quantum key distribution in order to allow for a complete understanding of quantum teleportation. Key experimental milestones for quantum teleportation in space environments are also discussed, such as the Chinese Micius satellite’s achievements and Boeing’s Q4S entanglement swapping mission. The benefits and possibilities of quantum teleportation, such as reduced signal attenuation, enhanced data integrity, and bandwidth optimization are analyzed alongside technical challenges and potential limitations like atmospheric interference and system vulnerabilities. These are brought up to showcase the potential of quantum teleportation to revolutionize satellite transmissions by enhancing secure satellite communications. Current implementations, future prospects, and challenges are laid out to highlight the role of quantum teleportation in national security, data sovereignty, and establishing secure communication networks on a global, and potentially interplanetary scale.
Quantum entanglement, a fundamental phenomenon in quantum mechanics, has garnered significant attention for its potential to revolutionize communication systems. Unlike classical communication methods that rely on the transmission of information via classical signals, quantum communication leverages the principles of quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, to enable faster and more secure transmission of data. This paper explores the concept of quantum entanglement and its applications in next-generation communication systems, focusing on quantum key distribution (QKD), quantum teleportation, and quantum repeaters. We discuss the theoretical foundations, current advancements, challenges, and future directions in the integration of quantum entanglement into communication technologies.
