Abstract

A scheme of long-distance quantum communication system based on entangled photon pairs is presented, which utilize entanglement as its essential resource. This entanglement enables phenomena such as quantum teleportation and perfectly secure quantum communication. The quantum repeater extends the length of the entangled photon pairs with high fidelity, the entanglement of photons between sender and receiver is built by entanglement swapping and entanglement purification. The quantum information is transferred by the principle of quantum teleportation.Performance analysis results show that the throughput quantum communication system of increases greatly with higher probabilities with which entanglement is built between sender's photons and receiver's photons. The transmitting distance of the quantum signal was determined by the series of the quantum repeater nodes.

A Quantum Repeater Based on Entanglement Purification and Entanglement Swapping

Zhen Zhu Zhou, Wei He, Chun Dan Zhu +1 more

We discuss a long-distance quantum communication system based on entangled photon pairs, which apply entanglement as its fundamental resource. For distances longer than the coherence length of a counterpart noisy quantum channel, the fidelity of transmission is ordinarily so low that standard purification processes are not applicable. The quantum repeater stretches the length of the entangled photon pairs. And the high fidelity entanglement of photons between sender and receiver is obtained by entanglement purification and entanglement swapping. We compare the nested repeater with the common repeater and show that it outperforms the latter, which is built an EPR pair in less time.

Quantum communication is an unconditional secure manner of transmitting information. A system of space information based on quantum entanglement is presented. It is using stratospheric platform and geosynchronous satellite as quantum repeater to deliver entangled photon pairs. The communication link between sender and receiver is built by quantum entanglement, and quantum information is transferred by the principle of quantum teleportation. The characteristic of the system is discussed, and numerical analysis is made for the performance of transmitting information. The result shows that the system can effectively transmit information in security.

Engineering Quantum Repeaters for Secure and Scalable Long-Distance Quantum Communication

Murali Krishna Pasupuleti

Abstract: This chapter explores the engineering of quantum repeaters, a critical technology for enabling secure and scalable long-distance quantum communication. Quantum repeaters extend the range of quantum communication networks by preserving entanglement and mitigating signal loss over large distances. The chapter covers the key principles of entanglement swapping, quantum memory, and quantum error correction, which are essential for maintaining the integrity of quantum states. It also examines advanced repeater architectures, including multi-mode repeaters and entanglement purification techniques, to improve scalability and robustness. Case studies highlight real-world implementations of quantum repeaters in quantum key distribution (QKD) networks, demonstrating their role in achieving secure global communication. Keywords: quantum repeaters, long-distance quantum communication, entanglement swapping, quantum memory, quantum error correction, entanglement purification, multi-mode repeaters, quantum key distribution, QKD, scalable quantum networks, secure communication.

Robust long-distance quantum communication with atomic ensembles and linear optics

Bo Zhao, Zeng‐Bing Chen, Yu-Ao Chen +2 more

Quantum communication deals with absolutely secure transfer of classical messages by means of quantum cryptography or faithful transfer of unknown quantum states by means of quantum teleportation between distant sites. The essential element for quantum communication is to create remote entangled pairs of high fidelity. The main difficulty to create such a distant entangled pair is that both photon loss and decoherence grow exponentially with distance. However, with the help of quantum repeater, it is demonstrated that both the entanglement sources and the time needed to create a single distant entangled pair of high fidelity could scale polynomially with the communication length. Here we propose a robust quantum repeater by extending the original Duan-Lukin-Cirac-Zoller (DLCZ) scheme based on atomic ensembles and linear optics. Our protocol entails the advantage of two photon interference, which is more robust than single photon interference used in the DLCZ scheme. In comparison with our previous proposal, the entangled memory qubits are manipulated across long distance, and local entanglement pairs are avoided. Our proposal provides an exciting possibility for realistic long distance quantum communication.

Design and Implementation of Quantum Repeaters: Insights on Quantum Entanglement Purification

Karoki A. Mũgambi, Geoffrey O. Okeng'o

Quantum communication is a groundbreaking technology that is driving the future of information transmission and communication technologies to a new paradigm. It relies on quantum entanglement to facilitate the transmission of quantum states between parties. Quantum repeaters are crucial for facilitating long-distance quantum communication. These quantum devices act as intermediaries between adjacent communication channel segments within a fragmented quantum network, allowing for entanglement swapping between the channel segments. This entanglement swapping process establishes entanglement links between the endpoints of adjacent segments, gradually creating a continuous entanglement connection over the entire length of the transmission channel. The established quantum link can be utilized for secure and efficient quantum communication between distant sender and receiver nodes. This study focuses on quantum entanglement purification, a protocol aimed at maintaining high fidelity entangled states above the operational threshold of the communication channel. This study investigates the optimal stage for executing the purification protocol and applies optimization schemes to evaluate various purification protocols. We use IBM Qiskit for circuit implementation and simulation. The results offer valuable insights into future approaches to implementing practical quantum repeaters and shed light on existing and anticipated challenges.

Quantum communication without memories or shared entanglement

William J. Munro, Ashley M. Stephens, Simon J. Devitt +1 more

Long-range quantum communication and its associated repeater network are a necessity for any future quantum Internet. The performance of such networks is currently limited by the time it takes to establish entangled links between the appropriate parties on the network. Typically this scales as the round trip time for a signal to be transmitted between those parties. We present in this talk the design of a communications network for the direct transfer of quantum information where the rate at which quantum data can be transmitted is not limited by the distance the information needs to be sent but instead by the time to perform efficient local gate operations. Our scheme requires neither the establishment of entanglement between communication nodes nor the use of long-lived quantum memories. Our scheme thus provides a much higher communications rate than in standard teleportation based schemes.
