Abstract

A novel way for encrypting optical information based on the principle that rays are retrievable using optical holography is presented.A random modulating plate is added to the Fresnel diffraction field of the original information. The parameters, such as the distance of information propagating and the modulating plate constitute the keys of encryption process. The results of numerical computing and optical experiments show that our method can encrypt and decrypt optical information successfully, being very sensitive to the keys, and have good performance on secrecy and anti-noise.

Securing information using digital optics

Xiaogang Wang, Yixiang Chen

We present a new method to secure information based on digital optics in this paper. The input image to be encrypted is recorded as interferograms by use of two-step phase-shifting interferometry. Before transmitting through communication channels, the interferograms are encrypted as phase codes in fractional Fourier domain by using a computer generated random phase mask. The set of fractional orders and the computer generated random phase mask form the keys to the encrypted data. With the phase shifts generated in the recording process, the original image can be retrieved from the correct decrypted interferograms successfully. Computer simulations are presented to prove its validity.

Novel optical scanning cryptography using Fresnel telescope imaging

Aimin Yan, Jianfeng Sun, Zhijuan Hu +2 more

We propose a new method called modified optical scanning cryptography using Fresnel telescope imaging technique for encryption and decryption of remote objects. An image or object can be optically encrypted on the fly by Fresnel telescope scanning system together with an encryption key. For image decryption, the encrypted signals are received and processed with an optical coherent heterodyne detection system. The proposed method has strong performance through use of secure Fresnel telescope scanning with orthogonal polarized beams and efficient all-optical information processing. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated by numerical simulations and experimental results.

Data encryption of optical fibre communication using pseudo-random spatial light modulation

Marcin Kowalski, M. Życzkowski

Abstract We propose and study a new technique for securing fibre data communication. The paper presents a method for optical encryption of information transmitted with a traditional fibre link. The encryption method uses a spatial light modulator which converts light pulses representing original data into pseudo-random patterns. A linear combination of light pulses with pseudo-random patterns provides a required encryption performance. The main element of the encryptor is the spatial light modulator which comprises a matrix of cells selectively transmitting or blocking the light beam depending on the pseudo-random configuration of cells. The encrypted information is transmitted through the optical fibre. The decryption process relies on a computational solving of linear program or greedy pursuit. We present a brief description of the method, theoretical analysis and results of numerical simulation. A physical model concept of the method is also presented.

Hybrid encryption and decryption technique using microfabricated diffractive optical elements

X.-C. Yuan, Shaohua Tao, Wai C. Cheong +4 more

A hybrid encryption and decryption technique for optical information security is proposed. In this method, the iterative Fourier transform algorithm is employed to optimize the encrypted hologram and the decryption key as binary phase-only diffractive optical elements, which were fabricated by electron-beam lithography. In a simple optical setup, the optical decryption is implemented by superimposing the encrypted hologram and the decryption key. Numerical simulation and optical experiment confirm the proposed technique as a simple and easy implementation for optical decryption.

Local hybrid optical encryption system based on double random phase encoding

Xiangxin Xu, Jun Chang, Chuhan Wu +1 more

Most of the existing selective encryption schemes are based on image processing and cannot be realized by optical structures, so their practicality is limited. Combining the optical design, a local hybrid optical encryption system based on double random phase encoding is proposed. The system proposed in this paper possesses a common aperture and dual optical path structure, which is widely used in optical design and can effectively improve the practicality of optical encryption system. First, important information and non-important information in the original image are separated by a selective beam splitter. Then light waves carrying important information enter into the 4f system for encryption, and light waves carrying non-important information enter into the diffraction system for encryption. Finally, part of the diffraction system ciphertext is replaced with 4f system ciphertext to obtain the final encrypted image. Decryption is the reverse process of encryption. First, the 4f system ciphertext is cut out from the final ciphertext. Then the 4f system ciphertext is used to restore the information replaced in the diffraction system ciphertext, thereby obtaining the complete diffraction system ciphertext. Finally, the two ciphertexts go through the reverse process of their respective systems to complete the decryption. By comparing the statistical characteristics and mean square error of the original image and the encrypted image, the effectiveness of the proposed system's encryption process is proved. By analyzing the peak signal-to-noise ratio of the original image and the decrypted image, the effectiveness of the proposed system's decryption process is proved. The sensitivity of each key of the system is analyzed to prove the security of the system. Especially the system is highly sensitive to selective encryption key, which proves the effectiveness and security of the proposed system for selective encryption. Through simulation, it is verified that the proposed system is very resistant to diffraction attacks. Even if he can obtain all the diffraction keys, the attacker still cannot obtain the selectively encrypted information. Finally, through simulation, it is verified that the proposed system has good noise resistance and crop resistance, and high robustness as well. The proposed system can realize the selective encryption through optical structure, which is safe, effective and highly robust, and thus improving the practicality of selective optical encryption system.

Optical image encryption in Fresnel domain using spiral phase transform

Ravi Kumar, Basanta Bhaduri

Abstract In this study, we propose a new nonlinear optical image encryption technique using spiral phase transform (SPT). First, the primary image is phase encoded and multiplied with a random amplitude mask (RAM), and using power function, the product is then powered to m . This powered output is Fresnel propagated with distance z 1 and then modulated with a random phase mask (RPM). The modulated image is further Fresnel propagated with distance z 2 . Similarly, a security image is also modulated with another RAM and then Fresnel propagated with distance z 3 . Next, the two modulated images after Fresnel propagations, are interfered and further Fresnel propagated with distance z 4 to get a complex image. Finally, this complex image is SPT with particular spiral phase function (SPF), to get the final encrypted image for transmission. In the proposed technique, the security keys are Fresnel propagation distances, the security image, RPM, RAMs, power order, m , and order of SPF, q . Numerical simulation results confirm the validity and effectiveness of the proposed technique. The proposed technique is robust against noise and brutal force attacks.
