Multiple Effective Two-photon Correlatedemission Optical Bistability with Injected Squeezed Vacuum

Abstract

A new kind of optical bistability—the correlatedemission optical bistability(CEOB) in which coherently pumped atoms with n-1 almost degenerate lowlevels and m+1 almost degenerate upper levels are injected into a cavity randomly, and undergo multiple effective two-photon transitions in the cavity has been studies. The results show that the effective two-photon CEOB can generate phasesqueezed state of light from an ordinary vacuum only in the low branch of CEOB, and perfect photonnumber squeezings of light from a squeezed vacuum only in the high branch of CEOB. It is also find that the critical values of cooperativity C and the operations of CEOBs are all affected by atomic coherences and atomic populations.

Cascade Two photon Correlated emission Optical Bistability

Huang Hongbin

A new kind of optical bistability, the cascade two photon correlated emission optical bistability (CEOB) studied. The results show that the cascade two photon CEOB can generate not only phase squeezings of light but also photon number squeezings of light in either nonresonant or resonant two photon CEOB. In any cases, the field squeezings are produced only in the lower branch of CEOB. It is also found that the field squeezings, the critical values of cooperativity C and the operations of CEOB are all affected by atomic coherences, atomic populations, and one photon detunings.

Effect of Squeezed Vacuum Input on Optical Bistability

Chunguang Du, Zhaoyang Chen, Jingtao Zhang +1 more

The effect of squeezed vacuum input on the optical bistable behavior of a system of N three-level atoms which are simultaneously coupled to a coherent pump field and a squeezed vacuum input is investigated. It is shown that the squeezed vacuum will significantly increase the range of the optical bistability, and the bistability can be controlled by the squeezing photon number and the strength of two-photon correlation.

Injected-field optical bistability model of squeezed coherent light generation

F. A. M. de Oliveira, P. L. Knight

We show how the squeezed vacuum fields generated in collective fluorescence within a high-finesse cavity can be transformed into squeezed coherent states with high brightness but with the same degree of noise suppression. The transformation is achieved by an injected signal that creates a mean polarization and squeezing in the high rather than the low branch of the optical bistable collective radiation. Analytical expressions are obtained for the limit of weak excitation of the atomic media. Comparisons with results obtained using rigged-reservoir theories and also from a multi- stage attenuator are made. The limitations of the model are discussed.

Optical Multistability from a Squeezed Vacuum in the Presence of Quantum Interference

Chunguang Du, Shiqun Li

The effect of a squeezed vacuum on the optical bistable and multistable behaviour of a system of N three-level atoms is investigated, where the quantum interference between the atomic transition paths is considered. It is shown that the squeezed vacuum can profoundly affect the output field of this system. A strong squeezed vacuum can lead to multistable behaviour, even in the case where the cooperation parameter C is so small that the input–output relationship curve is monotone in the absence of the squeezed vacuum. The optical multistability is most significant when the quantum interference is perfect. The bistability and multistability can be controlled by the squeezing photon number and the strength of the two-photon correlation.

Single-atom cavity-enhanced absorption with injected squeezed vacuum: photon statistics

Perry R. Rice, L. M. Pedrotti, J. Walden

We consider a single two-level atom in an optical cavity, in which the system is driven by a coherent driving field. In the bad-cavity limit, when the cavity loss rate is taken to be large compared to the atomic decay rate and atom-field coupling, the cavity field can be adiabatically eliminated from the equations of motion for the atomic operators. The main effect of the cavity in this limit is the enhancement of spontaneous emission into the cavity mode. For this model, the second-order intensity correlation function g(2)() has been shown to exhibit photon antibunching, sub-Poissonian photon number distributions, and other nonclassical effects.1 In this paper, analytic results are presented for g(2)() for both the transmitted and fluorescent light fields when broadband squeezed light is injected into the cavity. Effects of the squeezing on nonclassical behavior is examined.

Nearly ideal squeezing in degenerate two-photon optical bistability in three-level atoms

Alice Sinatra, D. Zibetti, F. Castelli +1 more

Two-photon bistability in a system of three-level atoms driven by a single-frequency field shows nearly ideal squeezing close to a dynamic instability threshold, occurring in the lower branch of the steady-state bistability curve. The squeezing is maximized and becomes very broad band in the bad cavity limit. Such results which were previously predicted on the basis of an effective two-level model, are demonstrated here and analysed by a full three-level treatment of the atoms. In addition, important restrictions and new features are found.
