Abstract

Aimed at the existed questions of last theory model of double cladding erbium-ytterbium co-doped fiber amplifier, a new one is proposed based on the consideration that the population profile of the different energy level is dependent of the signal optical intensity in the fiber core cross section. With the theory model, we numerically analyzed the uppre state population distribution of the erbium and ytterbium, the result shows its rationality.

Analytical model of an ytterbium-erbium fiber saturating amplifier

V. Yu. Golyshev

The amplification of an optical signal in an erbium-and ytterbium-doped fiber saturation-mode amplifier is considered. Analytical distributions of the inverse population, pump power, and signal intensity along an active light guide are derived. Spectral dependences of the saturation power and amplification threshold are obtained for different mode sizes of the radiation and ytterbium-to-erbium active ion ratios. The optimal active-fiber length is calculated.

Analytical Model of Pulse Amplification inErbium Doped Fiber Amplifier

Muhammed. R. Harb

Doping a part of the optical fiber core by (Er3+ ) ions in presence of external pumping power will lead to form the erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA).The performance of this optical amplifier depends on (the power and the wavelength of the pumping laser, the power and wavelength of the input signal, amplifier length, ion concentration). These parameters will affect the characteristics of EDFA such as amplifier gain, gain saturation, noise figure and output power. However, these characteristics can be determined by solving the EDFA propagation and rate equations. The solution of these equations of two-level laser medium can be done numerically. In this paper, we are proposed a novel method to solve these equations. The reconstructed results are perfectly coincided the well known numerical results.

The effect of upconversion on erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA)

Zhou Meng

Erbium-doped fiber amplifier(EDFA)efficiency strongly depends on erbium concentration.Highly doped erbium devices show degraded performance when compared with low concentration ones. The mechanism of upconversion is studied and the effect of it on the performance of an EDFA is analyzed numerically,by means of a set of rate equations model.Approximate analytical solutions, for the rate equations, which include the effect of the upconversion, are presented, when the amplified spontaneous emission can be neglected, compared to the pump and signal powers. Results show that the pump and signal powers all bear degradation due to upconversion.,and the effect can't be neglected when the Er3+ concentration is larger than 2.95×1025 m-3.

The Gain Characteristics and the Optimum Fiber Length of Erbium-doped Fiber Amplifiers

Huang De, Li Zai

An apporoximative theoretical of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) has been proposed in this paper by the rate equation of three-level system. The optimum fiber length is obtained with different pump wavelength by considering the excited-stated-absorption(ESA) in EDFA. The relations between the gain and signal light intensity and pump light intensity are analyzed. It is found that the gain spectrum shape can be changed with the fiber length, which provides the evidence that EDFA is of great potential use in wavelength division multiplexed telecommunication systems.

Analytical solution for the dynamic behavior of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers with constant population inversion along the fiber

Andrés Anibal Rieznik, Hugo L. Fragnito

We present an analytical solution for the coupled rate and propagation equations for a dynamic two-level homogeneously broadened system interacting with radiation and with constant population inversion along the longitudinal axis of the fiber, z. We derive an analytical solution for the z dependence of these equations, which greatly simplifies the numerical solution for the output powers’ time dependence. Amplified spontaneous emission and background loss influences are considered in the model, in contrast to the previous analytical solution presented by Y. Sun et al. The solution is derived, and the importance of each term for the dynamic modeling of typical erbium-doped fiber amplifiers is analyzed.
