Control of decoherence induced by the bath in an ion trap

Abstract

Dynamical control of decoherence induced by the environment in a single trapped ion system is investigated. The scheme proposed here is based on the composition of the frequency-shift and parity-kick technique. The former is realized by a homogeneous classical large-detuned optical fields added to the ion system, while the latter is realized by a series of π pulses. With application of this scheme, the decoherence induced by the bath can be efficiently eliminated.Numerical calculation shows that this scheme is superior to the parity-kick scheme.

Dynamical Suppression of Pure Amplitude Damping in Two-State Quantum Systems

Wang Zhong-jie

Dynamical control of decoherence induced by the environment in a single quantum-bit system is investigated. We choose the suitable perturbations acting on the qubit system to decrease the decoherence due to pure amplitude damping. The scheme proposed here is based on the free-Hamiltonian-elimination technique and the parity-kick technique, which concludes two homogeneous classical large-blue-detuned optical fields with different frequencies added to the qubit system. By applying this scheme, the decoherence can be completely suppressed.

Heating and decoherence suppression using decoupling techniques

David Vitali, P. Tombesi

We study the application of decoupling techniques to the case of a damped vibrational mode of a chain of trapped ions, which can be used as a quantum bus in linear ion trap quantum computers. We show that vibrational heating could be efficiently suppressed using appropriate ``parity kicks.'' We also show that vibrational decoherence can be suppressed by this decoupling procedure, even though this is generally more difficult because the rate at which the parity kicks have to applied increases with the effective bath temperature.

Simultaneous Suppression of Spontaneous Emission and Thermal Effect in Two-Level Trapped Ion System

Zhong-Jie Wang Zhong-Jie Wang, Chao-Yang Fan Chao-Yang Fan

We have proposed a method to suppress simultaneously decoherence induced by spontaneous emission and thermal effect in a single two-level trapped ion system based on bang-bang scheme. The basic idea of this method is that two kinds of decoherences are both suppressed by using a series of large detuned pulses to drive the ion in a precision-designed manner, thus best results can be obtained with minimal resources.

Using parity kicks for decoherence control

David Vitali, P. Tombesi

We show how it is possible to suppress decoherence using tailored external forcing acting as pulses. In the limit of infinitely frequent pulses decoherence and dissipation are completely frozen; however, a significant decoherence suppression is already obtained when the frequency of the pulses is of the order of the reservoir typical frequency scale. This method could be useful in particular to suppress the decoherence of the center-of-mass motion in ion traps.
