Abstract

We have proposed a method to suppress simultaneously decoherence induced by spontaneous emission and thermal effect in a single two-level trapped ion system based on bang-bang scheme. The basic idea of this method is that two kinds of decoherences are both suppressed by using a series of large detuned pulses to drive the ion in a precision-designed manner, thus best results can be obtained with minimal resources.

Dynamical suppression of spontaneous emission in two-level atom

Dynamical control of decoherence induced by the environment in a twolevel atom system is investigated. We choose the suitable perturbations acting on the qubit system to decrease the decoherence due to spontaneous emission damping. The scheme proposed here is based on the frequency-displacement technique and the parity-kick technique, which are realized by two homogeneous classical large detuned optical fields with different frequencies added to the system.By applying this scheme,in presence of spontaneous emission, the decoherence can be efficiently suppressed.

Control of decoherence induced by the bath in an ion trap

Dynamical control of decoherence induced by the environment in a single trapped ion system is investigated. The scheme proposed here is based on the composition of the frequency-shift and parity-kick technique. The former is realized by a homogeneous classical large-detuned optical fields added to the ion system, while the latter is realized by a series of π pulses. With application of this scheme, the decoherence induced by the bath can be efficiently eliminated.Numerical calculation shows that this scheme is superior to the parity-kick scheme.

Suppression of general decoherence in arbitrary n-level atom in Ξ-configuration under a bang-bang control

Linping Chan, Shuang Cong

In this paper, we first present a brief derivation of the dynamical decoupling conditions. On this basis, we propose our bang-bang (BB) decoupling scheme to suppress the general decoherence, that is, the amplitude damping and phase damping simultaneously, in arbitrary n-level atom in Ξ-configuration. At the same time, we also consider the physical pluses implementation so that the decoupling BB operators in our decoupling scheme are provided explicitly. At last, taking an eight-level atom in Ξ-configuration for example, we use the BB decoupling scheme proposed to suppress the general decoherence, and design the pulse sequences for the BB control operators.

Suppression of Decoherence Using Bang-Bang Controls

Yanhui Wang, Xiao-Shu Liu, Yang Liu +2 more

To suppress the decoherence, in addition to error-correcting codes and the error-avoiding codes, bang-bang control has also been introduced. Here in this work, we discuss how to suppress decoherence in quantum systems using bang-bang control, two cases have been discussed, adiabatic decoherence alone, and decoherence with both phase and amplitude damping. We also discussed the different cases when the system is made up of one atom or multi-atom and when such atom with two level or multi-level. It is found that in all the above cases, bang-bang control can suppress decoherence effectively.

Targeting qubit states using open-loop control

C D Helon, V. Protopopescu, R Perez

We present an open-loop (bang–bang) scheme which drives an open two-level quantum system to any target state, while maintaining quantum coherence throughout the process. The control is illustrated by a realistic simulation for both adiabatic and thermal decoherence. In the thermal decoherence regime, the control achieved by the proposed scheme is qualitatively similar, at the ensemble level, to the control realized by the quantum feedback scheme of Wang, Wiseman and Milburn (2001 Phys. Rev. A 64 063810) for the spontaneous emission of a two-level atom. The performance of the open-loop scheme compares favourably against the quantum feedback scheme with respect to robustness, target fidelity and transition times.
