Abstract

Dynamical control of decoherence induced by the environment in a single quantum-bit system is investigated. We choose the suitable perturbations acting on the qubit system to decrease the decoherence due to pure amplitude damping. The scheme proposed here is based on the free-Hamiltonian-elimination technique and the parity-kick technique, which concludes two homogeneous classical large-blue-detuned optical fields with different frequencies added to the qubit system. By applying this scheme, the decoherence can be completely suppressed.

Control of decoherence induced by the bath in an ion trap

Zhongjie Wang

Dynamical control of decoherence induced by the environment in a single trapped ion system is investigated. The scheme proposed here is based on the composition of the frequency-shift and parity-kick technique. The former is realized by a homogeneous classical large-detuned optical fields added to the ion system, while the latter is realized by a series of π pulses. With application of this scheme, the decoherence induced by the bath can be efficiently eliminated.Numerical calculation shows that this scheme is superior to the parity-kick scheme.

Dynamical suppression of decoherence in two-state quantum systems

Lorenza Viola, Seth Lloyd

The dynamics of a decohering two-level system driven by a suitable control Hamiltonian is studied. The control procedure is implemented as a sequence of radio-frequency pulses that repetitively flip the state of the system, a technique that can be termed quantum ``bang-bang'' control after its classical analog. Decoherence introduced by the system's interaction with a quantum environment is shown to be washed out completely in the limit of continuous flipping and greatly suppressed provided the interval between the pulses is made comparable to the correlation time of the environment. The model suggests a strategy to fight against decoherence that complements existing quantum error-correction techniques.

Preserving Coherence in Quantum Computation by Pairing Quantum Bits

L.-M. Duan, Guang‐Can Guo

A scheme for protecting quantum states from both independent and cooperative decoherence is proposed. The scheme operates by pairing each qubit (two-state quantum system) with an ancilla qubit and by encoding the states of the qubits into corresponding coherence-preserving states of qubit pairs. In this scheme, amplitude damping (loss of energy) as well as phase damping (dephasing) is prevented by a strategy called ``free-Hamiltonian elimination.'' We further extend the scheme to include quantum gate operations and show that loss and decoherence during such operations can also be prevented.

Dynamical Suppression of Nonlocal Decoherence in Two-State Quantum Systems

Wang Zhong-Jie, Zhang Kan

Nonlocal decoherence of two qubits due to pure phase damping has been investigated. We have proposed a scheme to keep the entanglement of two qubits from nonlocal decoherence. By applying a series of ±π pulses, nonlocal decoherence can be thoroughly suppressed.

Engineering and Suppression of Decoherence in Two Qubit Systems

Govind Unnikrishnan

In this work, two experimentally feasible methods of decoherence engineering-one based on the application of stochastic classical kicks and the other based on temporally randomized pulse sequences are combined. A different coupling interaction is proposed, which leads to amplitude damping as compared to existing methods which model phase damping, utilizing the $zz$ coupling interaction. The decoherence process on combining the stochastic kick method and the randomized pulse sequence method and the effectiveness of dynamical decoupling under these coupling interactions are analyzed. Finally, a counter-intuitive result where decoherence is suppressed in the presence of two noise sources under certain resonant conditions is presented.
