Abstract

The second ,fourth and sixth order fluctuations have been discussed by making use of SU (2)Lie algebra. On the basis of higher order uncertainty relation, the definition of higher order squeezing for the fluctuations of angular momentum has been put forward. In particular, the second ,fourth and sixth order squeezing in atomic coherent states are investigated. These methods and definition can be used for studying much higher order squeezing. The higher order squeezing can be generalized to the fluctuations of atomic variances thereby.

HIGHER-ORDER SQUEEZING OF ATOMIC DIPOLE

Chuan-hua Dong, 上海大学基础部,上海200072

The higher-order fundamental quantum-mechanical fluctuation is given on the base of the higher-order uncertainty relation, from which the definition of higher-order squeezing for atomic dipole is introduced. As an example, we examine the second-, fourth-and sixth-order squeezing of atomic dipole in the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model with the two-photon superposition state preparation.

The squeezing of angular momentum and its evolutions in atomic Schrdinger cat states

Chuan-hua Dong, 上海大学物理系,上海 200436

The atomic coherent states will evolve to the atomic Schrdinger cat states at some special times in a low-Q acvity. The fluctuations and higher-order fluctuations of angular momentum in these atomic Schrdinger cat states are discussed. According to the uncertainty principle, the squeezing and higher-order squeezing for atomic angular momentum are investigated. It shows that the atomic Schrdinger cat states can be squeezed to second-and sixth-order, but cannot be squeezed to fourth-order. The properties of squeezing of atomic Schrdinger cat states formed by superposing infinite terms of atomic coherent states are identical with those of atomic coherent states.

Coherent states, squeezed fluctuations, and the SU(2) am SU(1,1) groups in quantum-optics applications

K. Wódkiewicz, Joseph H. Eberly

The theory of generalized coherent states associated with the SU(2) and SU(1,1) Lie algebras is discussed and applied in an investigation of possible reductions of fluctuations. In the framework of a system of N two-level atoms the squeezing of angular-momentum [SU(2)] fluctuations is exhibited for optical coherent transients involving the photon echo. The SU(1,1) fluctuations are discussed and established for general two-photon processes involving dynamical variables different from the creation and annihilation operators.

ATOMIC COHERENT STATES AND TRANSIENT SQUEEZING IN THREE-LEVEL SYSTEMS

S. V. Lawande, Amitabh Joshi

Dynamics of a system of N three-level atoms interacting with two coherent fields is described by SU(3) coherent states. It is shown that these states exhibit reduced quantum fluctuations. Resulting transient squeezing in the atomic system is discussed.

Higher-order uncertainty relations

Alfred Wünsche

Using the non-negativity of Gram determinants of arbitrary order, we derive higher-order uncertainty relations for the symmetric uncertainty matrices of corresponding order n > 2 to n Hermitean operators (n = 2 is the usual case). The special cases of third-order and fourth-order uncertainty relations are considered in detail. The obtained third-order uncertainty relations are applied to the Lie groups SU(1,1) with three Hermitean basis operators (K 1,K 2,K 0) and SU(2) with three Hermitean basis operators (J 1,J 2,J 3) where, in particular, the group-coherent states of Perelomov type and of Barut–Girardello type for SU(1,1) and the spin or atomic coherent states for SU(2) are investigated. The uncertainty relations for the determinant of the third-order uncertainty matrix are satisfied with the equality sign for coherent states and this determinant becomes vanishing for the Perelomov type of coherent states for SU(1,1) and SU(2). As an example of the application of fourth-order uncertainty relations, we consider the canonical operators (Q 1,P 1,Q 2,P 2) of two boson modes and the corresponding uncertainty matrix formed by the operators of the corresponding mean deviations, taking into account the correlations between the two modes. In two mathematical appendices, we prove the non-negativity of the determinant of correlation matrices of arbitrary order and clarify the principal structure of higher-order uncertainty relations.
