Abstract

UV coherent radiation at 327 nm, 328 nm, 330 nm and 333 nm is generated by four-wave parametric process in sodium vapour. The spectral characteristics is examined. The signal at 333 mn has narrower line width and wider tunable range. So it is possible to use it as a coherent UV source.

TUNABLE UV COHERENT RADIATION GENERATED BY 2-PHOTON HYBRIDRESONANCE IN Na_2-Na

Xiaoli An

The tunable UV coherent radiation in the wavelength regions of 337.66—339.41 nm and 358.04—359.59 nm generated by 2-photon hybrid resonance 4—wave mixing in sodium molecular and atomic systems has been first reported. The mechanism is carefully analyzed and the results are compared with the conventional 2-photon resonance 4-wave mixing effect in pure sodium atomic systems.

Linewidth of ultraviolet radiation generated in nonlinear processes

Chao Wu, Sui Xu, T. S. Yih

Extremely broad linewidths of ultraviolet coherent radiation generated in a four‐wave mixing process in sodium vapor have been observed. When the wavelength of the input visible laser increases it is found that (1) the linewidth of the UV output generated in the 333 nm region correspondingly increases and (2) the integrated intensity of the UV output initially increases and then slowly decreases.

By unequal-frequency hybrid resonance followed by hybrid resonance four-wave mixing in Na2-Na mixture, broadly tunable UV coherent radiation in the wavelength region 319.2-354.2 nm has been generated. The experimental and theoretical analysis have been focused on the particular mechanism and the features of the UV coherent radiation.

Six-wave mixing UV frequency generation in barium

R. Stringat, G. Fabre, M Taleb

Two dye laser beams copropagate in barium vapour (N approximately 10 17 cm -3 ). One is tuned to the frequency ( omega L ) of the two-photon transition 6s 2 1 S 0 -6d 1 D 2 (661.2 nm). The frequency of the second ( omega L ) is tuned around that of the transition 5d6p 1 P 1 0 -5d 1 D 2 (528.6 nm). A new coherent wave at lambda UV approximately 350 nm, tunable on about 1000 cm -1 , with frequency omega UV = omega L + Omega (5d 1 D 2 -6s 2 1 S 0 ) is generated in the forward direction by a six-wave mixing parametric process.
