Abstract

Tunable UV coherent radiation in the wavelength region 319.2 nm to approximately 354.2 nm has been generated by unequal-frequency hybrid resonance of Na2-Na system and followed four-wave mixing. The wave-mixing processes and experimental results are discussed.

Broadly tunable UV coherent radiation generated by two-step hybrid resonance four-wave mixing in Na2-Na mixture

Shilan Deng, L J Qin, H Y Jin +2 more

By unequal-frequency hybrid resonance followed by hybrid resonance four-wave mixing in Na2-Na mixture, broadly tunable UV coherent radiation in the wavelength region 319.2-354.2 nm has been generated. The experimental and theoretical analysis have been focused on the particular mechanism and the features of the UV coherent radiation.

TUNABLE UV COHERENT RADIATION GENERATED BY 2-PHOTON HYBRIDRESONANCE IN Na_2-Na

Xiaoli An

The tunable UV coherent radiation in the wavelength regions of 337.66—339.41 nm and 358.04—359.59 nm generated by 2-photon hybrid resonance 4—wave mixing in sodium molecular and atomic systems has been first reported. The mechanism is carefully analyzed and the results are compared with the conventional 2-photon resonance 4-wave mixing effect in pure sodium atomic systems.

Tunable UV coherent radiation and infrared stimulated radiation generated by hybrid pumping in the Na2-Na system

Zugeng Wang, Xiaoling Tang, Kai-Chang Zhang +2 more

For the first time by means of two-photon hybrid excitation in the Na2-Na system, which is distinguished from the usual two-photon excitation in atomic vapor, tunable UV coherent radiation (between 337.6 and 339.1 nm and between 358.0 and 359.6 nm) and tunable infrared stimulated radiation (3.38-3.46 µm) were generated. By optically pumping with a pulsed dye laser scanning from 614.5 to 617.4 nm for sodium vapor in a heat-pipe oven, Na2 was excited by the first photon absorption from the X ′ Σ g + to the A ′ Σ u + state. The energy was transferred to Na by Na2*-Na collision to populate the levels 3p1/2,3/2 in Na, which was followed by another photon excitation from the same beam up to near the 5S level, resulting in SERS (3P1/2-4P and 3P3/2-4P) and OPSE(5S → 4P and 4P → 4S) radiation. Assuming the detunings of pumping frequency ω1, from ω(5S,3P3/2) and ω(5s,3p1/2) to be Δ1 and Δ2, respectively, the three UV coherent radiation components were supposed to be generated by the following mixing processes: ωUV = 2ω1 − ω(5S − 4P); ω U V ′ = 2 ω 1 − [ ω ( 5 S → 4 P ) + Δ 1 ] ; ω U V ′ ′ = 2 ω 1 − [ ω ( 5 S → 4 P ) + Δ 2 ] , and also ω U V ′ ′ ′ = 2 ω 1 − ω ( 4 P → 4 S ) . The SERS and the UV signals were tuned as the pumping wavelength was tuned. The measured wavelengths agreed well with the calculated values.

TWO-PHOTON PUMPEL SIX-AND FOUR-WAVE MIXING AND STIMULATED RADIATION IN LITHIUM VAPOR

Zugeng Wang, 华东师范大学物理系,上海,200062

This paper reports the generation of the coherent and stimulated radiation in UV, visible and infrared regions by two-photon pumping. It includes the tunable coherent radiation around 1.03 μm generated by a special six-wave mixing process, the stimulated radiation at 812.6 nm generated by molecular two-photon dissociation or atomic cascade transition, coherent radiation at 323.3 nm and 670.8 nm generated by the four-wave mixings.

Generation of continuously tunable coherent vacuum-ultraviolet radiation in Cd vapor

Kenzo Miyazaki, Hirofumi Sakai, Takuzo Sato

Continuously tunable coherent vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) radiation has been generated in the 128.7-135.3-nm region by two-photon resonant four-wave mixing in Cd vapor. The generated VUV has no spectral structure over the tuning range and indicates that Cd vapor is an efficient nonlinear medium for frequency conversion.

ac-Stark-effect-enhanced four-wave mixing in a near-resonant four-level system

Chen-Yu Tai, Robert T. Deck, Charles Kim

We report on an ac-Stark-effect-enhanced wave-mixing experiment in ${\mathrm{I}}_{2}$ vapor in which an output uv signal at frequency 2${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{1}$+${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{2}$ is maximized when the input frequencies ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{1}$ and ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{2}$ are both detuned in the same direction from the resonance frequencies of the free molecule. A theory based on a configuration interaction between the ``dressed molecular levels'' is presented to explain the strong enhancement of the uv signal under these conditions. The data presented demonstrate that tunable coherent radiation at ultraviolet and vacuum-ultraviolet frequencies can be generated by the wave-mixing process we describe.
